AutoCAD Express Tools :: Why Can't Draw A Line
Jul 11, 2013My question is: Why certin AutoCad files, I'm not able to draw lines?
I'm in model space. I can move objects. I can even erase/delete things. But I'm tring to edit this shop drawing, i need to add some details, so i need to draw some lines. I use the "l" command. Select my 1st point, then 2nd point. It doesn't work? The Command line keeps saying: Specify next point or [Close/Undo]. But no lines are getting drawn. i finally have to hit escape to end the line command but no lines have gotten drawn. its the same thing if i draw a square or circle. (Not sure if you need to know this but these are my companies files created by a former employee of my company using our own AutoCad. So, i would think if he's locked this file somehow, i should be able to unlock it.)

Feb 20, 2008I need to draw a thin white line across an image, infact several lines in different places. The lines need to be permanent. I want to key in the number of pixels for the the thickness of the line and if possible key in the position of the line. I know I can use a new grid line to position a grid line, but how do I then turn that grid line into a permanent line where I can decide the width and colour? I'm trying to refrain from the long way round of zooming up to 1600% and physically using the rectangular marquee tool then filling the rectangal with colour.

next i would like to Duplicate the layer and then select the Vector Mask Thumbnail in the layers panel so that when i select the Pen tool the Intersect Shape Areas is available
however, i cannot seem to get the Vector Mask to be available it is always grayed out no matter what i try to do.
i am trying to add a "glossy" effect to the circle by using the Pen tool to draw a shape through it horizontally and then up and around the top of and joining/closing it so that i can add a white>trans gradient.

Jul 18, 2012I'll omit the long background --- suffice it to say I did this once and need to do it again, but can't recall the toolchain / workflow I used.
I _think_ it was Macromedia FreeHand 8, and that I used a plug-in w/in that program, but I can't recall. Any way other than rendering the drawing as a half-toned bitmap and then tracing it? Or re-drawing the image on top of such a bitmap?

2) drop another point and drag (both handles move symmetrically in distance from point and angle)
3) finish your shape
4) switch to Direct Selection Tool
5) select one of the new points and move the handles (angle changes but distance from does not)

I run in to this all the time. I'll quickly set top of a curve, make a mistake and then want to go back and symmetrically extended both handles. Right now I have to set the distance on each side independently and it's never perfectly symmetrical again.

I have a customer for whom I am designing a business card. I am having to reset the business card from a scanned image.
The business card has got angles and triangles on it. Some of the angles have fills. Others do not.
I can use the Shape tool and trace the scanned image of my customer's business card. However, some of the angles are mirrored on either end of the business card. If I trace the scanned image it would be hard to get the angles right.
Basically, how, to work with triangles? I need to join triangles together at angles and so forth so that the business card looks symmetrical.
Illustrator :: Layered Vector AI File With Raster (Photoshop) Layers Included As Vector Layers?
Apr 20, 2013I've been using Illustrator since the late 80's but this request just now came up for the first time, twice in one day: the clients each want me to send them layered files (OK-no problem) wherein all the layers, even the raster layers, register as vector layers. Or at least all the layers, regardless of file-type (vector or raster) are contained within an unflattened Illustrator file. One of the clients specifically asked that the Type layer (No problem-all the type is on one layer) be "vector mapped", whatever that means, while all the other layers can be Photoshop layers, if necessary. So how do I hand them an open, unflattened Illustrator file containing both vector art and raster art? Can it be done in Acrobat, as a PDF? I'm working in AI and PS CS5, but I can and will upgrade if I have to.

Mar 24, 2014Every tool with the triangle on the bottom right corner doesn't allow me to see the other tools that are available in that selection area. I can hold down the alt key and click on the icon (tool) and it switches but it doesn't have the drop down menu when I right click on it. May 3, 2013fairly regularly illustrator decides to hide the tools set / and often panels like color / font etc behind the artboard.
it doesn't happen on starting the program, just maybe an hour or two into using it and i find the tools are hidden and i can to drag the windows around to find them again.
they also vanish at times if i am in the middle screen mode (clicking 'f' once to access) - again this doesn't always happen.

I don't know what a cut vector pdf is and I am very new to using illustrator. I just started using it two days ago for this specific project. I found the save to pdf option but I don't know what cut vector is, do I need to do something to cut it up or something?
I have creative cloud cs6 and am using illustrator cs6 for this project. I got no clue here what they are looking for. I can save it out to pdf is that what they mean? This is for an actual profesional printer they will be taking this to and they will make the sign from the file I give them.I have no idea about the file format for printing... Oct 9, 2012So in Photoshop when I select a tool on the toolbar and right-click it, I am given a menu of "sub" tools to choose from. In Illustrator, however, the same does not happen. I can select the tool on the toolbar, but right-clicking has no effect on those tools that appear to have sub-tools available (indicated, I thought, by the little corner triangle in the icon, just like Photoshop). Alt-clicking, alt-right-clicking, shift-clicking, ctl-clicking, nothing seems to work.
How do I, for instance, switch from the rectangle tool to the rounded rectangle tool (if there is one)? And how do I see which sub-options are available under those tools that have the little triangle?
I'm using Illustrator CS6 64-bit on Windows 7 64-bit

May 7, 2013For some reason when I hold down the right hand side on my mouse pad to access the hidden tools in the tools palette in illustrator, it shows the alternative tools but wont let me switch to them eg I hold down the right hand pad and can see the smooth tool underneath the pencil but I cant switch tools. Feb 23, 2014I'm not sure what I did in Illustrator, but my ellipse/rectangle tools are "off." All make a slanted shape, as if I created a normal ellipse then rotated it. They are also very narrow no matter how I draw them. There is a small symbol showing up while I draw them. It looks like a small vertical line connected to a small horizontal arrow.
