is there a way illustrator treats objects as filled so that if i click inside a none filled rectangle, it gets selected rather than making me click on its edge to select it?

View 9 Replies View RelatedSo I've been messing with Live paint, and I've noticed that where paths overlap or abut, or even if a path was expanded to a fill, a transparent line is there. They are not always noticeable in Illustrator, but when I bring the documents into Photoshop, they're blatantly obvious!

Is there anything that I can do about this? After more than an hour of chatting with a Tech support person, we determined that turning off anti-aliasing when I open the docuement in PS will fix this, but then all the lines are jagged, so that's not a viable fix. I know I can fill these gaps in in Photoshop, but I don't think that I should have to do that, and also, with complex artwork, this isn't exactly a viable option... Am I working too small?
The Recolor Artwork dialog does not replace the color of objects filled or stroked with pure black, either CMYK or RGB. (Yes, with the Recolor Art checkbox selected.) The dialog will replace any other color, but not black. Not even a manually created rich black. Manually selecting another color from the Color or Swatches panel does change the object's fill or stroke.
This happens with both CS6 and CS5 under Windows 7 x64. I reported it as a bug on the prerelease site. Also not sure if bug reports are still being read for the released version.
I'm creating a roof in Max, I have made a shingle and applied the array tool to cover the area, now I want to apply a boolean on the entire roof to make a hole on it, however, I think It's necessary to join all the shingles into a single poly in order to allow the boolean operation. They are in a group at the moment and how to join the shingles other than converting them all to poly, making a selectable list and attaching the list to a shingle.

The black lines would be the pen paths (curved shapes) with a brush stroke, but then I would like to select an area of all those pen paths lines (like you for example do when using marquee tool) (in the example green color) and fill the path lines with for example green only on that selected area and the rest stays black in this case and only the lines would be filled, so not the white space between. I kind of did it in Illustrator using scissor tool, but cutting all the paths takes a lot of time and precision so I thought there might be a better, easier, more precise way to do this in photoshop. how to accomplish something like that?
So, I just installed Illustrator CC, which I now have on a trial license. About an hour ago, illustrator suddenly started refusing to move any objects while I'm in the Selection Tool. I can move the objects only in Free Transform. I use hot keys a lot, so it's really slowing me down. I hit "V" to click on and then move an object, and then it won't move. I get the error sound, but no dialogue box pops up to explain what the error is.
Since I'm getting ready to bite the bullet and start paying a hefty monthly fee for this program when my trial runs out, this is pretty aggravating.
I have been working on a project in illustrator and all of a sudden, I couldnt use the selection tool to rotate and manipulate objects anymore. The arrows don't even show up to make that sort of action. Is there some way that I accidentally turned off the tool? If so, how do I turn it back on so I can work with it the way it was before?

In AutoCAD you can make a selection window from left to right and only those objects entirely within the window are selected. If you window from right to left all objects that are "crossed" or touched by the window are selected. Is there a similar technique in Illustrator?
Currently I have to select the objects, then go back and hold the shift key to deselect the object I don't want, or put objects on different layers then lock layers to prevent extra objects getting selected.
In AutoCAD, my primary program, you simply draw a selection window, left or right, depending on what your next step would be. No special tools or toggles or thinking ahead, it's just the primary selection process and very intuitive.
is there a way, that objects only inside the selection window or lassoed region get selected rather than objects getting selected which are partially inside the selection window?

I have a Floor Plan View and it was modeled up everything good displays and prints correctly (drawing 2 on the attached pdf) . I have another Floor Plan View which was create via duplicating the first one - therefore the majority of the drawing is the same. However, the filled region through the center of the duplicated view is obscuring the other modeled objects when it is printed.
The region is set to transparent (as can be seen when it is viewed on screen) the filled region has been sent to back, and the other objects are all on exactly the same layers in both documents (as they are identical apart from other noting which has nothing to do with the actual filled region).
why the filled region would be obscuring the objects in one drawing and not the other? The only way I can find to get the objects to print which are "covered" by the filled region is to turn the region off, which defeats the purpose as it is there for a reason? This happens with hard copy printing and also to pdf. Printer is set to raster printing .

When I use the direct selection tool to select multiple objects that also contain an image within a clipping set, occasionally the clipped image is included in the bounding box, even if it and its clipping mask are not selected. Selecting other objects includes them in the bounding box, but even after deselecting everything the bounding box around the image remains and the only way to remove it is to drag a handle (which resizes the image) and then undo the action. Obviously this is annoying and seriously interrupts workflow. I've had this issue ever since CS4.
View 10 Replies View RelatedIf I have a number of shapes on top of each other, with, for example, a drop shadow on the top shape, whenever I try and select the shape below it (it is peeking out from beneath the top shape, so I click on this 'peeking' section of the shape to try and select it) I cannot - it just selects the top shape as the top shape's drop shadow is 'blocking' the shape below it. Make sense?
How do I go about about remedying this? I seem to recall being able to tell Illustrator to ignore 'effects' when making selections in CS4, but cannot work out how to do this in CS5. And is there a way to refine the 'sensitivity' or selection radius when clicking to make selections?
I have this problem with my selection tool i use to scale with my selection tool now all of a sudden i cant scale it gives me a block you can drag the object around but you can't scale the object for a fast scaling.. where do i change the setting of the selection tool back to scaling an object..

I find it particularly difficult with night shots as I get color noise in my long exposures ..
In CS5, I was fairly easily able to do this by dragging a vector directly from illustrator to fireworks, but vectors drug back to illustrator would be rasterized. I recall photoshop did some of this stuff, but I don't remember so much as this use case is rarely necessary for photoshop for me. Nonetheless, Illustrator CC and Fireworks CS6 don't seem to support this feature at all.
I've always dreamt that adobe bridge would have this sort of functionality (since it's the only useful feature I could picture bridge having), but I haven't seen any evidence to support this wish.
Is there a good way to drag & drop or copy & paste vectors between the new versions of illustrator, fireworks, and photoshop? Maybe there are clipboard settings that allow this to happen or a program that accepts clipboard vectors, quickly converts them to something common like svg, then allows you to drag a temp .svg file into another program?
[by the way, I know I could just export .svg files from illustrator, then place them into a fireworks file, but this feels like an unnecessarily clunky workflow]
Any quick / clever / automated way of selected the container frame you get on imported items (and sometimes other elements) in illustrator (eg. cut and paste from indesign) and deleting it.
This frame can be selected by its points (usually i just swipe a corner point and press delete to get rid of the frame)

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I draw an object in Illustrator, the shape appears filled in the view of the document, even though it is set to no fill in the apprearance panel. The thumbnail for the object in the layers panel shows it with no fill, and if I copy it and paste it into Photoshop it has no fill there, so it really has no fill. Just in the view of the document where I am drawing it appears with a colored fill.
I'm drawing lots of overlapping shapes, I want them with no fill so I can see the ones behind. This is happening with all the tools I have tried: pen, pencil, paintbrush, shapes, whatever. I've tried restarting Illustrator, also restarting my computer, nothing changes. I may have clicked on some setting inadvertently somewhere, as I've been exploring and clicking on lots of things to see what they do.
I'm trying to combine two closed, filled arcs to make a 3 sided image with a large arc at the top and a small one at the bottom. I need to knock out the extra fill along the outside of the small arc at the bottom which is the point where the large connects. I'm also unfortunately still using CS2 ans using XP. I've tried many combinations using the pathfinder tools as well as setting them up as compound paths and masks.

You can see that letters "I" in the logos are boxes and the bottom horizontal stripe is a filled box. In the art file they received, the capital letters "I" in the art and the horizontal box have become paths with DASHES applied.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have this path that I got from Shutterstock. No matter what I do with it, it's got this green fill on it. So if I apply a grey fill to it, the grey fill is put on top of the green. If I remove the fill completely, the green fill is still there.
Maybe the person who made it applied some kind of magical unremovable fill color to it or someting?
I've ungrouped it, checked that there's no effects in the appearance panel, and of course checked that there's no outline on the path. I've also tried releasing compund paths. There's no opacity mask or transparency modes. Nothing worked.

Actually, I want to get the type of fillcolor used in pathitem, i.e. is it "GradientColor", "PatternColor" or "SpotColor".
I make a shape filled with an 80% black from the CMYK palette (0,0,0,80), and another shape filled with 80% black from the grayscale palette. Then i convert the color space from CMYK to RGB and the two grays that were identical in CMYK appear very different in RGB. Why is this?
