I drew a cured line with the brush tool in illustrator CS5, but when I select the new "width tool" to change the width, it doesn't work.
Here are my steps:
1. Select the paintbrush tool
2. Draw something
3. Select the "width tool"
4. Try to change the width but it won't work.
Since I draw with the paintbrush tool, the "width tool" can be very handy if I can get it to work.
I'm having trouble with the spacing of my text when I import a .rtf file. The spaces change width based on the width of the columns. The problem does not effect all the paragraphs only select ones. If I change the width of the column the spacing of the text will fix itself. All of the text is the same text style. I have attached a copy for reference.
View 2 Replies View RelatedTrying to use the width tool, I ran into the following problem. I would like to have a smooth transition of the stroke width between two width points while keeping the original stroke width unchanged outside of that line segment.
There are four width points here: two end points and two in between. The original stroke width is 200. The two on the left have one side set to 100 while the two on the right have one side set to 50. I would like to eliminate the distortion of the line width occuring in the first and third line segments. The only solution that I have come up with so far is to place two additional width points very close to the two middle width points: one with a 100-unit side to the left of the second point in the picture and one with a 50-unit side to the right of the third point in the picture. Yet there will be a small distirtion in between.
How come the width tool can ne used on a path made by pen tool but not brush strokes? Is a brush stroke not a path??

I outlined everything, and started using the width tool around the eye and noticed it scaled the width proportionately. The iris sits inside of a clipping mask because it would seem most efficient to be able to adjust the points later down the line if I need to. I would like to avoid having to have the iris, a clipping mask with no stroke, and then the stroke placed on top of everything. Is this possible?

I am looking for any info on scripting the Variable width tool (Javascript).
Background: By adding a gradient to a variable width strock you can create nice 3D looking Shapes (see example)
this is a straight vertical line with varied widths, then hit with a gradient.
Goal: My hope is to write a script that will take a "Profile" or "Shape" and convert it to a Variable width line. (see Example)
The Black line is to have its widths modified
The Red line is how wide the line needs to be.
i have created a stroke with a calligraphy brush. Now i want to make the stroke a bit thinner at some points of the path.
It could be easily done with the width tool but it doesn't work directly on the stroke.
Is there a way to convert the stroke so the thickness of the stroke will be kept at the other points?
I created an action to change the width of an image. I execute the action using DoScript javascript method.
The first action Obj1 will select the whole image and second action Obj2 will open the transform panel and change the width of the image.

Ive been messing around with the variable width tool, Im not sure I i changed something, I did try to restore defaults but when I make a change it changes the opposite side of the image. For example In screen shot I changed the width on the left and the effect showed up on the right.
I would like the width to change where I change it.
I’m using Adobe Illustrator CS6 with a mouse rather than a pressure graphics tablet.
When I create a stroke using the Paint brush tool I would like the stroke to contain a variable width profile. For example narrower at the beginning and end of the stroke but thicker in the middle. Now I can do this by selecting the line after I have made the stroke and choosing the Basic Brush Definition from the drop down list. But if i try to draw a new line the settings are reset again. I cannot create a variable stroke while creating the stroke. The brush definition keeps resetting to 5 pt Round and stroke width 1 pt. It would be much quicker if the stroke remained as a varying width profile as I created the strokes.
I noticed the same problem with the blob brush tool except it's even worse. With the blob brush tool the stroke weight always resets regardless of whether or not I try to set a Variable width profile.
I tried deselecting "New Art has Basic Appearance" mentioned on another forum but that didn't work.

Notice the variable width profile is maintained as the artists draws. It doesn’t keep resetting.

Also, i need to be able to change the width uniformly on sections between anchor points. I DO NOT want to use live paint as it takes away the sections of stroke i have tapered off already, however, the effect you get when using the live paint selection tool is exactly what i need
Is there a way of doing this at all?? It seems that i should be able to do it but i'm not able to find the right button, option or combination of both.......

View 12 Replies View RelatedAm I the only one who has edited a stroke with the stroke width tool, then outlined the stroke only to find a countless number of points and noticeably unsmooth edges? Is there a setting or certain way to ensure that the stroke width tool won't corrupt the smoothness of my shapes? The stroke width tool is the most handy new feature I can imagine, but this problem makes it almost entirely useless, unless designing something where precision and smoothness are not important.

whereas in CS5 it looks perfect.These images may be too small to see the details, but the difference is there. Is there a workaround for this? Or is it recognized as a bug?
I'm having an issue where I'm creating a white border around two landscape oriented images that are the same exact size then doubling the width of the canvas. I've never had this issue before with PS CS6.. I tried resetting the photography workspace but no luck. I tried with two portrait oriented images and the same result. I've restarted my machine. I'm on Windows 7 Pro 64bit and I'm running PS CS6 64bit as well. Thought to do a repair through Programs and Features but there is only the option to uninstall. How I can correct this? If an image is 20 inches wide and I'm doubling it to 40 it's tripling the width to 60 inches. Is there a way I can reset every aspect of PS CS6 to get back to a factory state other than uninstalling and reinstalling?
Can I reduce the palette width in LR 5 down to the width of LR 4? I am able to enlarge their width from the standard width – but how to reduce them? I am missing 100 pixels (2x50) for image view.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am creating an upper cabinet which has a fixed height but you can select different widths. What our firm does is also list the size of the cabinet. What I would like to do is make this font some sort of preset attribute and control it with the visibility states. I also want to control the font height by the scale of the drawing. my question is I if its possible and how? I've attached what I have thus far. The attribute is in teh top right corner and is justified as top right. The only way I can get this to work is if I manually adjust the font after its inserted into the drawing.
View 5 Replies View RelatedFrequently when I am using LR4, from the intial to the latest patch, I have a very persistent double arrow. The double arrow is the one that points left and right, and is intended to occur when you are hovering over the side of a window pane and you want to drag it left or right.
My problem is that I get that arrow much more frequently then when I want to change the width of the window. I get it constantly when I go to do keywords. Sure I cross over the window boundry where it might naturally turn into that arrow, but I am exclusively working in the keyword panel. And that double arrow remains. I need to shake my mouse a bit to make it disappear.This is not a problem that occured in Lightroom 1, 2 or 3.
Is there a way to use the line tool to make a 1 pixel wide line? When I use a brush width of 1, the line apears to be blurred. I would like the line tool to draw a line as if it was drawn using the pencil tool (with brush width of 1). This means that every pixel I colour, will have the exact ARGB value that I am using at that moment.
I have attached an example of this to this post. It consists of two lines, the top one has been drawn using the line tool, the bottom one using the pencil tool. I would like to turn the top line into the bottom one.
I created a pattern in Photoshop CS6 for a project with shape lines which reside on shape layers. I want to change the line weight but after I create them it seems there is no way of changing the shape; even after I select line.
I can change the spread (uniform distribution) of the lines and lengh but not their weight. No matter if I choose all or just one of the lines which are all on the same shape layer the weight does not change. This does not make sense. [URL]....

I am new to CorelDRAW. I am using it to generate scientific application notes that contain both graphics and text. I am running into a problem where I have a negative number that is close to the end of a text line (using justified format). CorelDRAW wants to treat the negative like a hyphen and keep the "-" on one line and then moves the number to the next line. For example, if the phrase "...cooling to -150 C for 5 minutes..." were to wrap across a line, it would look like:
"...cooling to -
150 C for 5 minutes..."
Instead of:
"...cooling to
-150 C for 5 minutes..."
The only way I can figure out how to get past it is to change the width of the text box so the lines wrap in different places. I have tried adding a space or two, adding hidden text (text with the same color as the background).
