I have a massive block of dummy text set up in Illustrator 5 and the easiest way for me to change the dummy text is to overwrite it as one would when using the Insert function.

I know i can attribute the block with promts such as levels or dates etc.. but is there a way to make the block do this by itself when level is already entered? also is there a way to insert multiple block (like the points) using excel concatenate function? or can i input the points and have date and level shown in a text form?

I run into this from time to time: I have animated some components using dummy objects but then realize that at some point I need to animate them all moving together, so I link the dummy objects to a new parent dummy that I just created. However, most of the time the child dummy objects go haywire, orienting themselves in new directions as soon as I link them to the parent dummy.

I have created a block by making a autocad drawing and creating /saving it as a block .. When I insert the block into my drawing the text style changes into a different style... why is this happening and what can be done to prevent this change from occuring. I am using autocad lt 2009 and 2005 the problem is consistant with both versions...
I want to insert a text into a block that contains a field. The field I want to look up the value of an attribute that is also contained in the block. Now when I have this complete and then change the block attribute the fields do not update to the new value of the attribute. An example file is attached.
Now I am open to creating the block in a different way, so any way to make this concept work? I want everything to be contained in the block.
I already tried to work around my problem by making 2 separate attributes, where the 2nd attribute contains the field that looks up the value of the 1st attribute - this did not work. Another thing I tried was after the block was made, I edit the 2nd attribute by inserting the field and this worked fine - the down side is that the field is not the default of the attribute (so the block must already be present in the drawing model space and that instance must be copied to make more).
I am using AutoCAD 2000i I would like to click a button, hide the form, pick the text, I'm only picking one text item, then insert the picked text into a block. Then put the text into the attribute in the block..Insertion point of the block next to the text item.

i already tried to create a dummy text style with all the correct setting and type a test word and voila - it shows one of the letter in a different font!
I have made this artwork in illustrator (included an image of it below). it is for newspaper print. When i export it to Illustator PDF the size is MASSIVE 40mb! I sent this to them via a link hoping to get away with it but they replied & said please send as 3mb as the file it to big! What am i going to do now? I have flatterened transparency & rasterized everything in Illy but it only makes it larger.

I write a program, this program needs to insert some standard illustrations. I made these standard illustrations into different blocks. And I store these blocks in a dwg file. Everytime I need to insert some illustrations, I just click the mouse on the current drawing, I want the illustration inserted. These means the following points:
(1) Import the blocks to the current drawing, if the blocks have already been imported, then do nothing.
(2) Specify the insert point by clicking the mouse, and I want the block's insert point to coincide with the mouse clicking point.
It seems that the Text Tool has lost it's ability to highlight text for editiing in one particular file. How to regain the highlight?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am trying to send a file to a newspaper for print. Only thing is Illustrator makes the files massive.
A normal newspaper ad ends up to be 58MB when converted to PDF. When i make something in Indesign it only exports to about 8MB for PDF.
I've got a number of multi-line text elements in my document and I want to decorate them with some icons that further describe the content. If I can find a font that contains all the icons I need, it's pretty simple. I just add the glyphs from that font in the normal text flow. Maybe change their colour.
But what if I can't find a font and need to use other graphics sources for the icons? They're not in the text flow and I'd need to align them to the font baseline by hand, and update it whenever I change the text length or font size.
I'm looking for a way to insert a graphic directly in the text flow, much like adding an image inline in MS Word or HTML. Maybe it will be necessary to adjust the graphic size or the vertical alignment a bit, too.
How can I do that in Illustrator CS6/Windows?
I have created a dynamic block with a stretch, flip and rotate. Everything works great in its file. When I insert it in another file, the grips move but the block does not change.

I have a block that i want to insert several times and revised each one to be different to do this i would have to insert it and rename the blocks that come in and then reinsert i would like to insert and have a lisp explode the main block and rename the other 2 blocks with a suffix at the end depending on how many times its in the drawing... can this even be done? My original block name that will be first inserted is "BENT PULLEY NOTES" it needs to explode after i drop it in and then there are 2 blocks within that called "Bent Pulley" and "Bent Pulley DYN" that i was hoping to keep the names but add a number at the end depending on how many are in the drawing already...

I have a pallete button that inserts a block then a drag jig to position it. The block is first inserted at 0,0 and dragged.
The block at 0,0 remains visible while a "duplicate" block is dragged. Is there a way to hide the original?

I am using Autocad 2007 I made several blocks with att. And I use this drawing and copy it to the samples/design center folder so that I can see the blocks that I created on the Design center window for use on different other drawings.
My problem is that if I make a cange on the ORIGINAL block drawing how can I update the inserted blocks on the other drawings? I try to delete the block from the local drawing insert block list (is this possible?) to paste the block again with the new changes, but somehow even when I grab the new modified block to inserted again when I do it, it takes the shape of the old version!
Is it possible to create a block to insert on our title block that will populate itself with a list of drawings and names?
I know this is possible through the use of LISP and the Sheet Set Manager, but could this be done through a combination of attributes and fields (we want the same functionality in LT).

Drawing contains a block with "BlkName". I want to insert blockreferences of this existing block using .Net. All shows how to insert a new block and then use the BlockID returned by the insert function. In my case I only have the block name and there is no Block id. How to get it or how to create a block reference of an existing block?

The text layer is labeled "bg" and the shoe and pants layer is labeled "shoe" of course. I am not worried about the "E" because the text behind it adds to the "texture." I just want the shoe to be shown without the underlying text (the ground; "bg") layer. I would like for the text to not be shown beneath the shoe. I've tried all of the Pathfinder options. I could just outline the shoe I suppose and I guess I could do a clipping mask or something, but I don't if that'd work as I'm still a beginner at using Illustrator and I figured maybe there was an easier option.
InDesign has a great feature where the filename can be inserted as variable text which will automatically update whenever the filename is changed. Is there a plug-in for Illustrator which can do the same thing?

This doesn't seem to have anything to do with the MIRRTEXT variable because that is used when I'm actually mirroring the text. In my case, the text is mirrored as soon as I insert it. How can I get it back to normal? Is there a variable I'm missing?

So far what I have found in this forum and TheSwamp the best way is to use DeepClone of BlockTableRecord but the objects in original BlockTableRecord need to be DeepCloneObjectes into new block. Otherwise new block will have all objects with ObjectId from old BlockTabkeRecord.
Is there a way to insert a Ai graphic into msWord and the graphic text still be searchable in msWord? I would like the text in my Ai graphic to be searchable once the graphic is inserted in msWord. I have tried different Ai exports, but all come into msWord as pictures. Is there a way to keep the Text Layer in my Ai file searchable in msWord.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to create an effect of small text following the outline of very large bold block text (see picture). The idea I had was to first create the 'ME' in very large font as text. Then convert that text to an object / path using "Object -> Flatten Transparency... -> "Convert all text to outline"". Then, select that path and use the "Type along path" tool.
However, when I use that process, the resulting path is a compound path that therefore the Type Along Path tool doesn't work. Any pointers on how to achieve this? The image below I just used the pencil to trace the letters (quick and dirty) but the result is choppy, etc.
