Illustrator :: Snaps To Pixel And Alters Path?
Jul 21, 2011
snapping to the pixel grid. I even have the "Snap to Pixel" turned off and the vector paths are being altered by illustrator so they visuall fit in the pixel grid. I've never experienced this before where illustrator actuall moves the anchor points where it wants.Here's a vector path on a grid created to show where the pixels are:
I select the object, swap the FILL to the STROKE and right away you can see that illustrator altered the location of the paths.I swap the STROKE back to the FILL and it alters the paths even more!Here's another example:
The paths clearly are not aligned with the pixel grid, but illustrator is trying everything it can to make the pixels line up. (This graphic has "Align stroke to inside" and is in pixel preview). Same thing but not in pixel preview.I made sure snap to grid and snap to pixel is turned off and still to no avail.

I'm currently designing a transit diagram in Illustrator CC, but I'm having some trouble with snapping. I'm working on a grid with snapping on, with 10px stroke paths. An example of my problem is as follows: I have a 90 degree path laid out and I go to make a 45 degree diagonal off it using the shift key, but the end of that new diagonal ends up on a half pixel. See the picture below:
You'll see the end of the path on the right is at X 630.5 and Y 185.5. I'm working on a 10px grid with 10 subdivisions. How can I make it so it snaps to whole pixels only, this is really infuriating!

I purchased LR4 last night - mainly interested in the moire removal tool. Tried it on two DNG files. Seemed to remove the colour pattern but not the intensity contours. BUT, after this test, I opened the DNG files in Photoshop CS5. In Photoshop, there are now ugly brush patterns where the tool was applied. And the DNG files now showed a 'last modified' date of today. Seems like LR4 can corrupt DNG files

Start a new Photoshop-File in RGB-ModeCreate a new layer and fill it with RGB = (8,8,8)
Add a MaskCopy the (8,8,8) Color (strg +a, strg +c), and paste it into the layer mask (alt + click, strg + v)
What I get is not a (8,8,8)-plain-color in the mask, but a dithered image with (7,7,7) and (9,9,9).
Is it only a bug in my version (CS6 13.0.1)?
Bonus Question: Considering this strange behaviour: How can i turn an image exactly into a layer Mask?

When working with our product photos, I keep them in RGB and add drop shadows to them by drawing rectangular marquees on a separate layer, fill them with black and then apply gaussian and motin blur to them. Works quite well. Plus with the shadow on it's own layer, I can turn it off in InDesign if need be.
The problem is when I convert the photo to CMYK for offset printing. It's asks if I want merge the layers to which I say no since I want to be able to turn the shadows off if need be, but when I say no, then the shadows get bigger and do not look as good as they did in RGB. If I say yes to merge, then the shadows look the same as they did in RGB but I lose the ability to turn them off in InDesign.
Is there a way to keep the shadows looking the same when converted to CMYK without having to merge the layers? Using PS CS6 64 bit.

I have some negative space I created(black area, see first image) that I want to fill with type, not just a simple fill.
Basically I want to create the negative space from a bunch of small minus signs(-) that need to line up as they go across. If I type on each path one at a time as the text doesn't line up that way. This needs to be one continuous path. (see second image)
Unfortunately if I add them together, it creates a compound path, which you cannot type on, unless I am mistaken? So I need them to be a path, not a compound object.

In illustrator, is there a way to reduce anchors points in a segment path without altering the path?
Is there a better and more efficient way to reduce anchors points than using the pen-minus tool?

I've tried every permutation of copy and paste; I renamed the path to path. It looks like a path when I add stroke, but it does not behave like one. I can't cut it or join it to any other path. It remembers it's text path status. I'm running OS X 10.7.5.

I accidentally converted a path to a text path. I searched the forum for how to convert it back to a regular path. The answer I found said to select the path and hit Command+C+F. This gives me another text path! I now have at least 6 copies of the path in my files but they are ALL text paths and none are visible with a stroke.

I've got two paths. They don't intersect, exactly, a straight path ends at a curved path, but I need the end of the straight path to be curved, to make it look like the two meet perfectly. The two gray paths (a single path, then path->offset for the second) are the outside of a shield shape. The two black lines (paths) just surround text, but currently they overlap the gray paths.

I am using the Sheet Set manager to just publish my drawings to the named plotter (Adobe PDF). I an NOT using any fields. I do not have any sheet numbers assigned in the sheet set. Each drawing is a separate file with only one layout tab in each file. On each drawing, the sheet title and drawing number are within an attributed block, with the drawing number in an attribute with a tag of SHEETNO. Everything is in RomanS. Single sheets plot fine. This is the only sheet set.
The problem is that the sheet number are altered when I use Sheet Set Publish to make a multi-sheet PDF. The manually inserted plain-text sheet numbers are all in the format X#.# (A1.1, A2.3, etc.). Two things happen:
1. The number after the period is printed in a different font on all sheets (NOT RomanS - the ends of the stroke are square) .
2. Over half the numbers are changed (the first sheet, the cover, is blank and not changed):
T1.1 -> T1.- (the dash character)
A1.1 -> A1.1 (OK number)
A2.1 -> A2.1 (OK number)
A2.2 -> A2. 1 (note the extra space)
A2.3 -> A2.2
A3.1 -> A3.3
A4.1 -> A4.1 (OK number)
A4.3 -> A4. 2 (note the extra space)
A8.1 -> A8.3
A9.1 -> A9.1 (OK number)
AutoCAD 2009 on Window 7. No other similar problems.
As it is, Sheet Set Publish is useless. (I know, get an updated version of AutoCAD - it's in the works).

I created text on a curved path using the pen tool and the the type on a path tool. However, there are portions of the text that I want to taper. For example, my text begins horizontally, continues to the right, and gradually curves downward. As the text curves downward I would like it to taper smoothly into a narrower and narrower text.

I managed to remove the background, of an image,(A whit background) and put the image on top of a transparent layer. made a transparent image. When I place this image over a light color background, it looks fine, but when I place it over a dark color background, the edge of the image looks very rough and dirty, I think it's because some of the anti alias from the original image, how can I make it a clean image without going to delete pixel by pixel?

We are developing an application using functionality of Gimp´s channel mixer with java.
Our problem is that we don’t Know how channel mix works exactly for transforming pixel by pixel in Java.
For example,
We have an image an do on it the next mix:
Output Channel = Red
Red=200.0
Green=0.0
Blue=0.0
For simulate that, we transform all pixels with Red Component *2 and 255 (maximum) if is greater.
Our problem is:
Output Channel = Red
Red=200.0
Green=60.0
Blue=0.0
How can I simulate that?

I'm trying to create an effect of small text following the outline of very large bold block text (see picture). The idea I had was to first create the 'ME' in very large font as text. Then convert that text to an object / path using "Object -> Flatten Transparency... -> "Convert all text to outline"". Then, select that path and use the "Type along path" tool.
However, when I use that process, the resulting path is a compound path that therefore the Type Along Path tool doesn't work. Any pointers on how to achieve this? The image below I just used the pencil to trace the letters (quick and dirty) but the result is choppy, etc.

Align To Pixel Grid a bit more thoroughly. I understand how to use it - to turn it on & off, but I'm a bit confused about the "why & when" of using it. F.I. I'm creating a picturebook with text. So when I export / or save for web, I'll be turning the vector art and text as an image. My understanding is that using ATPG will eliminate the jagginess of the text that would occur, when it becomes an image, if I did not use ATPG.And conversely, if I don't use ATPG, the text will be jaggy when exported to jpg or png. Is this correct?

pixel rendering does not seem to work correctly in Illustrator CC on OS X 10.9 Mavericks.
Objects are placed correctly, and stick to pixel grid, but Illustrator renders them as being off-grid.
I have installed Illustrator CS6 as a temporary solution, and the same file works correctly.

I have two art objects on two layers. I want to match to the pixel the two objects that otherwise could be exactly the same but one layered object was imported slightly smaller.
The scale tool has good scale handling, I just want to measure the tool spots to the pixel to gain an exact scale size factor and match sizes.

It blows my mind that somthing this simple isnt all that simple. I used the eyedropper tool to slect a color from another photo, then used the brush while fully magnified to change the color of each pixel.
It was coming out a weird greyish color, and I noticed that if I clicked more than once, it got darker, but so did the pixels directly around the one i was editing. So, i copied both pictures, loaded them into paint, and went to town.
It worked, but then when i copied it back into photoshop, it had a black background (there was no background in the original pictures) around the sprite I was editing. I tried to use the magic wand tool to get rid of it, but it took parts of the sprite with it, so...
Is there any way that I can edit the color of a single pixel (or hell, even a group of pixels if they share the same exact color would be nice...preferred, even) accurately? If not, what program could I use that would keep the transparent background?

At work, I notice that some of the newer draftsman (Me and about 3 other who have been there for 1-4 years) tend to prefer AutoSnaps on in some capacity and those who have been there for 7+ years tend to leave it off.
This has got me thinking about whether people prefer having AutoSnaps on in some capacity or another at all times.I tend to leave on End Point, Mid Point and Intersection on at all times, and just use CTRL + Right click to adjust as necessary.
