Im looking for a way to export a pattern made in Illustrator to auto cad.
I would like to select objects inside a shape based on the shape.
As you can see here i would like to select all the objects inside the blue circle, and delete everything outside of it. I dont want to use a cliping mask as it does not really destory the objects outside the circle.
so I came up with this script, and it worked fine until I tried it on a different file. I have moved the artboard around all over the "main" canvas (if that is what it is called) and on the one that it works on, seems to only work when artboard(top, left) is positive values. however on the new file it doesn't seem to matter where it is on the artboard, it wont work anywhere. it should find the textpath relative to the shapes position.
I thought it was the coordinateSystem, but that doesn't seem to fix it. How the canvas works (maybe the math.abs();

How do I drag to select over the top of objects without selecting and moving the objects under the mouse when I begin the "drag to select" motion?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI really enjoy this new draw inside feature in Illustrator. But, I find that it does not always work. It seems to be grayed out sometimes. For example, I have drawn a shape with my Wacom tablet using a blush. I then converted it to a shape instead of keeping it a stroke by expanding it. But it will not allow me to now draw inside of it, even though it is a shape.

What kind of a shape is this, and can I edit the oval? I don't use Illustrator much.
I have created the outline of a snake using the pen tool. The shape is closed. I want to add scales that do not overlap and are snug against the outline wall. Im sure I am missing something incredibly simple. I tried to create anchor points along the outline and use the pen tool to connection the anchor points but doing so would delete the anchor points. Each scale will be different colors and shape and they need to all be snug together.

I was trying to fit my text inside a shape look like the number 7 so eventually when a viewer see it they can recognize the number 7 without a stroke - only by the text insize the shape, above is an example of what happe when I try the same with a circular shape - I would like the test to fit in nicely filling the entire circle.
I select a shape and choose file > place to place some text in it, though the text does not display, the stroke also disappears indicating that it seemed to do something.

I've created a 2-point persective grid on top of a cube (see image below). I'm tyring to recreate the cube and have started by inserting some purple squares into the right side of the perspective grid. I've drawn an ellipse at the corner of the original cube that I'm trying to copy, to indicate where I need my squares to stretch to.
How I can stretch my purple squares in perspective so that they match the end of the orignal cube as indicated in the image below? I've tried skewing but this doesn't skew in perspective.
How would I put smaller objects inside a 3D object? I made a tube and wanted to fill it with little spheres. How to put the objects inside and shade them to look like they're in there.

I have read the manual on variables and i'm a little lost on what i'm doing wrong, heres what i've got so far:

1-When you have selected an edge loop, let's say, on a plane, how to select the polygons inside that loop? At the moment I'm using the split tool as a (very bad) workaround.
2-When you have selected some polygons, how to select the edges on the "boudndary"? (kinda the opposite of the above) At the moment I'm using the detach as element and border selection as a (very bad) workaround.

Is it possible to select all objects with a particular characteristic, such as a specific stroke width? I know I can do this by selecting one object and then choosing select all. But I want to include this as part of a batch action, so I need to be able to specify the selection in such a way that it can be completely automated. If I have to select one of the objects for each file, it defeats the purpose of the batch action.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAs seen in the attached image, I want the red arc shape to cut out from the green logo it is sitting on top of, while also having the red arc dissappear and reveal the transparent bg. I have tried a bunch of different ways that I have read from these forums but none of them seem to work. Obviously I'm missing something. The green shield logo is made of multiple objects. The closest I got was the arc shape cut out from some of the objects of the green logo, but not all of them, and the arc shape didn't cut out as an arc, but rather as the original rectangle. The arc is created with a regular rectangle with arc effect.

In AutoCAD you can make a selection window from left to right and only those objects entirely within the window are selected. If you window from right to left all objects that are "crossed" or touched by the window are selected. Is there a similar technique in Illustrator?
Currently I have to select the objects, then go back and hold the shift key to deselect the object I don't want, or put objects on different layers then lock layers to prevent extra objects getting selected.
In AutoCAD, my primary program, you simply draw a selection window, left or right, depending on what your next step would be. No special tools or toggles or thinking ahead, it's just the primary selection process and very intuitive.
i have a guge artwork and i need to select a small groups (around 10-100) of objects from about 4000 overlayed objects and then group'em/split-to-layers for usability (This is a human body infographics for medical institute) There IS NO way selecting them from canvas because they are overlayed, and sometimes not visible at all. in CS5 there was a feature to select multiple objects by Alt+drag selection icon on the most right in the Layers Panel. Now the duplication mode turns-on when i try to perform it. So.. Ho do i select multiple object without need to click through thousands of them? (i need drag-select)

I want to select only those objects that are fully or partially within that marquee.
I can use the lasso to select objects in this way. But if I try to use the selection or direct selection tool, it selects and moves the first object I touch.
I can use the selection tools and begin from outside the image area and create a rectangular marquee of selected objects. But I can't do this if I begin within the image.
I'd like to select an object and have a script select all objects behind that object, within that objects bounds. I believe this is possible with z-order? But I've never worked with Z-orders before

Here's an example file. I'm trying to select eveything below the yellow polygon.
This would be very useful in another project with many small objects bunch together below many larger objects. I want to group the small objects that are bellow the larger object together without having to manually select each objects (there are thousands of objects so a script would be ideal).
I want to select a few paths in the layerpanel by NOT clicken on every one. So for example I have the following structure:

path10
And I want to activate path03 to path09 for further modifications - I would have to select every single path by clicking on it in the Target column.
Is there a faster way like selecting path03 and than holding the Shift-key and selecting path09 ? <- (This obvious solution doesn't work)
When I have made a logo and there's mutiple parts and I want to center it, it messes all the parts up. How do I center it while keeping the shape without combining it all? Example in photo: [URL]

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I use the direct selection tool to select multiple objects that also contain an image within a clipping set, occasionally the clipped image is included in the bounding box, even if it and its clipping mask are not selected. Selecting other objects includes them in the bounding box, but even after deselecting everything the bounding box around the image remains and the only way to remove it is to drag a handle (which resizes the image) and then undo the action. Obviously this is annoying and seriously interrupts workflow. I've had this issue ever since CS4.
