Illustrator :: Invisible Hands For Clock Holding Tick Mark As PNG
Aug 5, 2013
I am making the hands of a clock with tick marks held in a particular spot with an invisible bounding box. When I export as a png the bounding box disappears and all I have is the tick mark. Maybe a boundindg box isn't the correct description? I have made the hand using the rectangle shape with no fill and no line. The tick mark is contained within this space. But somehow when it is exported using png the invisible containment disappears. I need that to hold my tick mark in place as the hand goes around the clock.
I am trying to make the hands of a clock with a small red rounded rectangle near the top. But as I rotate the shape the lines are no longer straight. The hands of the clock are invisible but a bounding box for the small rounded rectangle. It won't stay straigh either. I have tried everything I can paths, etc.
How come when you try and check a distance on an alignment, and say I try and click on one of the tick marks it will not snap to the intersection of the tick mark....it like jumps off like half a foot and will not give you an accurate measurement?
Currently when I create a new layer within an image, and set the horizontal and vertical size using “inches” instead of “pixels,” and display the image at 100%, it shows 10 tick marks in the ruler to equal 1 inch.
I want rulers in my image to be scaled at 1/8”. Therefore, it should show 8 tick marks in the ruler with each tick mark (incremental unit) to represent the 1/8” scale. Example: 4 tick marks would equal ½”.
I need to add an invisible water mark to the file before it goes to publishing. Is there a way to add an invisible copyright water mark to the file with out using metadata? is there any software that can track images on websites?
I want to create a clock with a frosted glass look and maybe some icicles or ice as well. It is for a project i am doing. The theme is "magic of a moment" and my idea is that a frozen clock would represent in a moment, time seems to slow down/freeze.
Is illustrator the best to do this or should i use photoshop?
If I want to make artwork for a clock by drawing a black circle and then putting 12 white lines on it for each hour, how do I then cut out the parts of the circle where the white lines are so that if I put it on a blue background, all I see is a black circle with 12 sections missing where the white lines used to be? CS6, Windows 7.
I need to recreate this dial and I've learned how to create evenly spaced tick marks within a circle, but this is an ellipse. Here, I attempted to draw two ellipse then used the scissors to cut them to size. Then I used the line tool and drew each of the tick marks. Then I adjusted the weights of each tick. This is not a good method because the end ticks are not meeting the ends of the ellipse perfectly, leaving a tiny bit of tick mark outside the ellipse. Here is what I ended up with:
But this is what I need to create: (I only need to create the arched part with tick marks of this dial)
I learned out to make the tick marks using copies and rotation. My question now is, how is the rotation calculated so A) I get the correct placement of the tick marks, especially the small ones as there are so many and B) how do I calculate the rotation degree so that I have the proper amount of space at the bottom of the guage/dial?
I know how to get the large tick marks and the small tick marks, if I were placing them evenly around the entire circle, I would know how to do that also - but since I'm placing them around only a portion of the circle (although still evenly) I'm lost. I can only figure out the space by hit and miss calculations and that is taking much too long. I would also need to know how much to rotate the entire thing by in order to get the open space at the bottom as shown.
We are introducing a new graph design, but has a problem with not being able to override the tick marks in the category axis in Illustrator CS5. A typical graph (line layout) can have 250 observations, and since we have the tick marks on full width, the graph gets "crowded" with black lines.
In the value axis there is possibilites for overriding the values, but not on the category axis.
Is there any way to script so that the tick marks in the category axis can be reduced/overrided to e.g. 1 in 20?
Certain selected tool cursors are almost invisible on my workspace. The lasso, type, rectangle, line tools when selected and moved into the workspace are almost the same colour as the background so it is impossible for me to get any accuracy with these tools as I can't find where they are on the page.
The other cursors, pencil, pen, eyedropper etc are coloured in black so it's fine. Is there a way of altering the other cursors so they are black too? Or finding another solution?
i'm working with CS4 on a brand new Macbook Air 11 inch.
I'm trying to duplicate the effect where the writing "Charleston" arches over the ellipse but in doing so, it reveals the red background. It looks like the graphic designer who originally made such poster used a mask, but I'm at no avail of my own.
how I could duplicate the look?I've arch the text, it's having the text show the red background is what I'm trying to do.
I drew some strokes and then I was busy on another part of my image then when I looked back at the other part half of my strokes were not visible. Im not sure why. They are still there because I can select them and I can see them in outline mode but they are invisible in preview for some unknown reason. The stroke hasnt changed and the layers are all visible. I restarted and they came back.
I have a large number of objects, paths, multiple copies, texts etc. under the visible (on the top) object which is larger and completely covers all unusable object bellow. How can I easily delete or weld INVISIBLE objects from composition?
I know you can do it in photo shop but I want to know simply can you do this is illustrator, I'm a new author working on my children's novel and I'm trying to get my prints or images on to backgrounds but I need the white behind my images to disappear. Can I do that in illustrator or do I have to have photo shop for that?
I have designed artwork that uses lots of colors and lines. Everything was pretty much designed with lines and shapes and then I used live paint to paint in certain sections. The artwork looks perfect when exported as a GIF and it appears fine in Illustrator. The problem happens when I export the document as a PDF. When I export it as a PDF, tiny white lines show up where I have invisible lines in Illustrator. These invisible lines were put there in the first place so I could have set regions for the live paint without them showing. I'm not sure why they are showing up when I export.
I have tried multiple PDF settings and also tried flattening the layers and attempting to use Transparency Flattener Presets and export it as a PDF 1.3 but it is still greyed out in the export options when I try.
I've attached a screenshot of the PDF after it has been exported to see the lines. You will notice black lines and thicker white lines (like the one at the top), these are intentional. the ones that are undesired is the thin one near the bottom whre you can see theres a break point in color and then multiple ones going up. Deleting these with live paint selection, expanding the art, using direct selection tool to delete all ruin the art flow or do not work.
My job is making PDFs "ready for print" - checking colours, making sure overprint is on where needed, adding trapping where needed, etc. After I'm done doing this, I add a logo outside of the printable area as proof that I have checked the file and it's OK for print and the date. This is always on the same spot: 5mm left from the left edge of the design and 5mm below the lower edge.
Right now, I have to keep the Illustrator file with the logo/date open at all times, go there, copy the image, go back to the design I was working on, paste it and enter the values manually to be sure it's in the right place (and then edit the date, of course).
It's time consuming and I was wondering if there's a way to make Illustrator place the logo and date on a pre-determined location without having to keep the file open. I can't just make an action that "places" the file there because then, I can't edit the date anymore.
I have to put cloths on manniquines. I have found the arms & hands but do not know how to cut them from their background. Don't want a white background but just the arm, hand etc. I then have to afix them to the clothing. I have to build the manniquine around the picture of the clothes.
We have 8 designers all running identicle systems, but one user is constantly using up their disk space quota, I've traced the problem to the fact that when they use illustrator it writes loads of 16.8 Mb files to their Library > Cache folder all called .afpdeleted followed by a series of numbers.
This doesn't happen with any of the other users.

It is happening on illustrator CS6 and also on illustrator CC. What is happening and why it is only happening to this one user?
I think I remember this is possible in Illustrator, that you can make strokes that are for maps, like railroad tracks and the like. I need to make a 'zipper' and even the most simple line with cross perpendicular lines at regular spaces would do the trick for me. It's rather tedious to try to make these on a random direction path, but I need to know, is it possible to make a stroke that does this?
How do you combine 2 pictures to make it appear that an item is being held in the hand/hands so that the fingers actually appear in front of the item I choose to place in said hands?
Every time I start up Illustrator CC 17.1.0, I see this annoying, grammatically incorrect message. To top it off, when it disappears, the invisible notification area icon remains. And the kicker: when I close Illustrator, the icon still remains until I hover the mouse cursor on it.
Windows 8 Pro N x64 Illustrator CC 17.1.0
What does this notification even mean? That I can change DPI in Windows settings?
How can I build something that looks like a rubber membrane stretched in a spot where an invisible object (say bowling ball) is sitting on the membrane? Hopefully that is enough of a description.
How to do this effect. Extrude does not give me the desired effect. Pretty much a beginner in Illustrator.
I'm doing a series of videos for artists for practicing gesture drawing. They basically consist of 1 or 2 minute poses interspersed with 30 second pauses. The poses are drawn from my portfolio of model photography I've build up over many years, so they are stills. The 30 second pauses are just so the artist can flip to another sheet of paper, sharpen a pencil or shake his arms out.
When the pause is on the screen it will just display a generic background with some text showing which pose is coming up and a boilerplate copyright notice. But I thought it would be nice to have a little countdown timer being shown during the pause so the artist can see how much time remains before the next pose starts. What's a good way to integrate a little animated timer or clock that doesn't look too amateurish?
I have reloaded CS3, done the ctrl/alt/shift at start up and deleted preferences, I can't figure out how to get this annoying move tool to go back to the way it was.
I am currently working on a project that requires me to keep an object centered between a biped's hands (like a floating fireball or a box). I need to be able to move the hands around and keep the bone averaged between them. The position and rotation need to be averaged for the bone, but not scale.
