I know you cant crop in Illustrator like you can in Photoshop.But is it possible to copy an object and create a new canvas and have it so that it fits exactly to the object? I just want an object on its own, but I dont know how to do this if it is possible.
View 1 RepliesEvery time I plot there is always one or two areas where the lineweights are not consistent even though all their properties are the same. I notice this especially with text. I thought erasing the heavy text and copying over the text that was printing correctly would work but stubbornly it still prints heavy. I am using a CTB to control my lineweights, the layer and colors are the same. Annotation is the same. I am working with AutoCAD Architecture 2009.

This logo is composed by two things: the first one is the picture of the logo itself, than the second is the text part (which is not the hardest thing to do).
What I'm trying to do is, once have drown the "subject" (a light blue drop, in my case), to copy and paste it in order to have other four copies of the same drop, but moved and rotated to create something like a circle..
You can find the original logo I created attached. But I'm not really satisfied with it (this is also why I'm writing here!) =)
I'd like to re-create it and put the drops as in the attached logo....
I have a masked area in my illustration. When I copy & paste it into PS the mask doesn't work. It doesn't matter if i paste as pixel or smart object. Even in AI when I copy and paste it to another file the mask fails to work.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm working on CS6, OSX, I exported a logo to jpeg form Illustrator, when I open it on the default image preview app and try to copy (cmd+V) it won't let me, the copy option under edit isn't gereyed out but when I use it or press cmd+v a sound tells me the action can't be completed and it obviously doesn't copy to th clipboard, When saving it from the "save for web" option it works properly and I can copy and paste without problems, all of this also happens if I do it in Photoshop, this has never happened to me until now.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I copied and pasted charts from excel, the lines are all doubled. This is the first time I got this. I could not figure out what is the difference between these double lines and the regular lines. Any clues how to change the lines to regular ones. I am using AI CC.
There is no difference in Excel.
I've been creating charts in Excel 2004 for Mac for years and copying them into Illustrator. They have always previously pasted into Illustrator as vectors illustrations. I've created hundreds of charts in Excel before and copied them to Illustrator to "dress them up" for reports with no problems. I just created a chart in Excel 2004 for Mac and copied it to Illustrator and it came in as a picture. This is the first time I have ever had this happen with an Excel chart.

down under step #4 it says to Copy (& Paste) the circle that's inside a Clipping Mask and to the drag it out of the mask in order to duplicate it twice.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe viewport canvas is a great tool, I have had it working in previous versions of max but in 2013 I just can't get it to work.
The object it's self has been unwrapped and collapsed to poly no different to what I've done in the past. I bring up the viewport canvas dialog box and everything is normal until I select the paint brush tool and the object disappears, it's still in the scene but I just can't see it, it seems as though the viewport clipping has become very narrow, closing the dialog box the object returns. I've tried large and small objects, nitrous and direct x, and nothing seems to work.
I have a rectangular object directly on a transparent background. Is there an easy way to resize the canvas to the object?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have found that edited grpahics that were previously fine start to be pixelated instead of vector. I can still edit the lines and anchor points but it is shown with pixels.
This has happened under a number of circumstances.
- copy a graphic from one drawing to another .. the first one is fine, the 2nd .....
- I completed a drawing then renamed it to edit it .. the edits are no longer displayed as vectors.

I am using CS6 ...
Using PS6 64 bit.
I bring in an image as a smart object, crop it (with 'delete cropped pixels' checked) and then attempt to add canvas on all sides. The image reverts to its pre-cropped size with the added canvas on 3 sides.
If I flatten the smart object before adding canvas, it works fine.
Is there any way to get this to work with a smart object?
I'm guessing that this is a super simple question, but evidently I'm not sharp enough to figure it out....I've imported a bitmap file [.tif] into PP, & it's MUCH larger than the letter-size canvas I'm using. So I'm wondering what the simple method is to fit that bitmap to the canvas. The thing that's driving me nuts is, I select this big bitmap [it's roughly 3300 px by 2800 px, FWIW], go into Image > Resample, & under "Image size" it's giving me 11.0 x 8.5! And why PP is saying that the image is already the same size as the canvas--well that's why I'm writing this post. Cause I don't know why.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn most vector based programs I am used to using a function which allows you to paste a copied item to a specific location determined by a point-click. I find this endlessly more useful than pasting to the centre of the screen, or even paste in place, as both are rarely anywhere near where I would like an object to be. I find the function of point-click paste does away with endless dragging of objects across the screen.

In Illustrator CS6 - Cloud - there's an annoying box floating above my canvas in the upper left hand corner. It is a transparent fill with a black stroke and a dark outer glow.
I've tried turning off every palette and window view, yet it still appears "above" the canvas window. It goes away when the application loses focus but then returns after the application is brought to the foreground. This has to be a bug?

I just got CS5.1 at my job. This must be a preference, but when I adjust the Canvas size, it will constrain the image, rather than cropping the canvas. The Anchor in the Canvas Size menu appears outlined (highlighted?) which indicates that this is something in preferences that I can adjust.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIm not even sure if Illustrator is the program or if i should use Indesign but im trying to create a single folded wedding invitation and be able to print on both sides. i want the invitation to be 14cm x 14cm and like i mentioned open up like a card and print on the front and on in the inside. Can you pleasssseeee direct me to some instructions or tell me which program would be best to do this. Im guessing that since its smaller than an A4 page size then i will need to cut it down after printing. To be able to do this do i need to make the canvas the size of a A4 page and then put my size of the invitation on this??

To export files from Illustrator I am using the AI->Canvas plugin. I was wondering if you can export a custom file via Illustrator Script (JavaScript) into an <canvas>(*.html) (can't seem to find it in the CS4 JavaScript reference) and are you able to combine AJAX-calls using jQuery via Illustrator Scripting as well.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI downloaded this vector from Shutter stock, but what I am seeing on the layer palette is different from what is on the canvas and if I try to save or export it to anything else the result comes out looking like the layers palette - almost black.
And it's only happening on a few of the objects, as you can see from the image, the apple and other leaves are fine. It is also doing it to the pumkin and some of the grapes in the cornicopia.I checked all my layers to see if something looked weird but they all look fine...
When I open the original .eps file from Shutterstock in Photoshop, I get the same black objects.
can see that the edges of the guy's fingers are bleeding off the artboard and into the canvas. It's my goal to animate it frame by frame, and have his hands move in from the canvas. The thing is, when I export the frames as PNG files, I am still able to see what is on the canvas. I don't want that. I want to only see what is on the artboard.
As I was researching into this, it appears that I have to create a clipping mask, but none of the pages I read really seemed to specify on how to do that. There is this page which is in 7 steps (URL....), but I can't complete it since I don't know my changed image attributes. And it appears that the image attributes are not in the Document Setup, so how do I determine how large my artboard is (besides using the rulers)?
Is there not just a regular cropping tool that automatically clears anything exceeding the edges of the artboard?
I am making a website on Illustrator 1,200 px 1,200 px. When i export it to .PSD i open it as a much larger file in pixels than this and with a whole Canvas/ Artbord white area which i don't need.
Is there any way to keep the page size like the final ouput without the white canvas area in the export?
