Illustrator :: How To Always Rotate Objects Around Same Point Even Using Right-click Menu
Apr 16, 2013
I need some of my objects to always rotate around the same point. How can I select a point which will stay that way? Using the rotate tool resets after deselecting.
Also, I'd like to rotate objects around a certain point even when using the right click > Transform > Rotate.
I did it earlier, but now everytime I try "alt-click" to make the light blue cross hairs, nothing happens. I am trying to make a gear in illustrator and this is a key componant.
I'm trying to create a border similar to what you see here:
But I need it to be oval shaped. I tried using the blend tool, which works great around a circle but on an oval, the objects get scrunched together at the peak of the oval. How do you rotate and evenly space the objects around an oval?
I am trying to create a pattern that I have created in previous itterations of Illustrator. In CC when I create a triangle (either via Star, Poly, or Pen tool) and then try to rotate it via Transform Each > Transform again, the rotation point moves according to what the bounding box would be if I reset it, rather than staying in one (original) spot relative to the actual bounding box and triangle. I cannot find any settings that would be affecting the rotate point in this way. I am pretty confident that I am using the same procedure now that I did in older versions of Illustrator. Perhaps I am using the wrong procedure.
Naturally, if you are rotating something around its center you should expect that it would end up create a circular pattern. It is more of a square with concave sides. The red is a perfect circle that I grouped to the triangle to demonstrate the rotate points movement. It is located in the exact center according to the align tools.
I use the rotate tool to design gauges, like clocks, a lot. I hold the ALT button and click on the center of my drawing and then a window pops up to enter in what degree I want my object to be. Currently the decimal point only allows for hundredths, ex. 45.25 degrees. Is there any way to change this to thousandths or even higher, ex. 45.25125? I've attached a screenshot to show you what I mean.
In my illustration I have like 300 objects and 100 of them are gradient objects. The gradient colors all different. How to select all gradient objects in one click? Is there any plug in ore some trick?
I have been working on a project in illustrator and all of a sudden, I couldnt use the selection tool to rotate and manipulate objects anymore. The arrows don't even show up to make that sort of action. Is there some way that I accidentally turned off the tool? If so, how do I turn it back on so I can work with it the way it was before?
In most vector based programs I am used to using a function which allows you to paste a copied item to a specific location determined by a point-click. I find this endlessly more useful than pasting to the centre of the screen, or even paste in place, as both are rarely anywhere near where I would like an object to be. I find the function of point-click paste does away with endless dragging of objects across the screen.
I am using illustrator cs2 and somehow my reference point locator is missing from my menu bar? Also, I am not able to manually set the x y coordinates on anything besides 0 0. I have been using this program for a long time and haven't had this happen before. turned off the reference point locator but I can't see where to get it back on my menu to be able to align objects.
Using CS5.When I try to move any object by selecting and then trying to drag, it won't let me. It allows me to drag while selected maybe half an inch before not moving anymore, and then snaps back to the original position anyway. I CAN move by using transform - move, or selecting and using arrow keys. When I restart my computer everything seems fine, but then it soon gives me this same problem.
Also, when I'm having the object moving issue I also have problems with dropdown menus. For example when printing, I can see the list of printers, but clicking them has no effect. Another example is the Preferences menu box, clicking "Type" or "Units" has no effect.
I have turne off Snap to Grid, and Snap to Point.. and I have made sure "Align New Objects To Pixel Grid" under the Transform menu is turned off, yet still my objects are snapping to point intersects... am I missing something?
I am running CS3 on Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5. Starting yesterday, every time I click anywhere on the menu bar, Photoshop crashes. This is not happening in Illustrator. I have uninstalled and reinstalled CS3, deleted Photoshop preferences, validated all fonts, and installed all available updates for my system.
While being distracted while working, I inadvertently kept my finger on a key (forget which one), heard a little BEEP, and now my Right Click FlyOut Menu is going somewhere I don't need it to go to. I am getting the 'Snap" options box
I'm doing far too many inadvertent moves/deletes/copies, simply by clicking pen for menu to appear, only for it to commit to whatever the pen position was at. This happening in the library area is no fun at all....not sure what the answer is really! but it's not ideal....
I just installed acad mep 2013 and I'm having some problems with the right click menu. I was using 2012 previously and I would right click, then press M for the move command. Now I have to press V for move in the right click menu. Is there any way to change which keys to press for the right-click menu?
i am using autocad 2012 last twoday i was faced this problem i cant edit the text through double click?and i seen some of options missed out in right click menu like ( copy, paste ,rotate ...... finally deselect the objects.
Don't know how or why this has happened, but my AutoCAD has suddenly stopped showing the correct shortcut menu's when I right click. This happens both in 'default mode' and 'edit mode'. All I get is the default menu instead of my customised edit menu.
I've not edited my CUI nor my right click customisation, but when I've checked them, both are as they should be. I just can't work it out. Also, the delete key won't allow be to delete selected objects anymore.
I'm not sure what was the last thing I did before this error occured, but I think at some point I wanted to press the delete key but may have ended up pressing either the insert, end or home key and maybe for 2-3 seconds. Not sure if these would change anything but thought I should mention it.
Is there anyway these may have been disabled, for example a small insignificant icon somewhere?
I had the x3 trial. Then bought the x4. And uninstalled x3 first.
X3 worked fine, but X4 crashes ( 50% of other cpu and reading vstudio.exeFASTIO_QUERY_OPENC:Documents and SettingsUserMy DocumentsCorel VideoStudio Pro14.0SYSERSUCCESS and vstudio.exeFASTIO_QUERY_OPEND:Program FilesCorelCorel VideoStudio Pro X4en-USkernel32.dllSUCCESS)
It crashes every time when I click the Transition -> My Favorities (dropdown)
I just had to reinstall Inventor and I forget how to remove the annoying radial menu that pops up whenever I right click. I just want the normal right click menu.
I have attached an image...but in 2013 we had an expanded Right Click shortcut menu...so if you clicked on a line for example it would give you alot of options...as you see in the image I do not have all those in 2014.
My "Shortcutmenu" is set to 11
Pickfirst is set to 1.
In CUI I do not see any seperate menus loaded under Shortcut.
Trying to change the Hatch double click command from quick properties to the familiar hatch edit dialog. When I go to the cui, hatch edit doesn't even appear as a command. There a lots of commands that don't appear in the CUI command list.
I added it, but I cannot get it to stick when I drag it to HATCH in the double click list. The the HATCH Advanced element box "ID_QUICKPROPERTIES" is greyed out so I cant retype it to "hatchedit"
It could be because I let autocad migrate from 2008 (pre ribbon) when I installed.
In AutoCAD 11 the right click pop-up has clipboard and an arraow you need to slide on to get to the copy, paste, paste as block, copy with base point...Older versions had these clip board features in the pop-up and I hate having one more step to get to the clipboard features. Is there way to customize what shows up with right click?
I was working on max using the hair a fur modifery to try and test out something when I noticed somethign strange. When I right clicked in the view port to bring up the options (exsample cut, convert to polygon, hide, fezze ect.) it wouldn't come up. Hears what I've tried. Reinstal max, get a copy of the default interface from a school computer and tried loading that, turning off windows 7 's background color transparancy, removing all things installed right before the problem, run a system check for errors, a viruse scan and right now I'm trying a full restore from a back up. I don't know what's going on. I suspected that my graphic's card drive might be the caulprate but I checked that as well and it says that its all clear. I took the files that had the problem to other computers and they had no issue. It doesn't matter what file I load either this is universal. I can start with a blank file and the right click view port menue won't come up.
Detailed discription:
Launch 3ds max. Go to any view port upon launch. Right click in view port and no menue comes up.

ACAD 2007. I recently had to reload the stock ACAD 2007 interface.... I would like to customize my right click menu (when selecting any drawing space object) to display only clipboard and properties..... right now, when I right click it displays EVERYTHING!
