Illustrator :: How To Convert CMYK Artwork For Spot Colour Apparel Print

Sep 11, 2013

I'm pretty new to preparing artwork for spot colour printing - it's a hoodie design in this case.

I created the artwork in CMYK originally, and have got some of the way towards converting into a 5 colour print job using Recolor Artwork, so I've got it down to 5 swatches.

However, the printer is asking for colours separated by layers, which makes sense - I think means knocking everything out so there is no overprinting - is this correct?

If so, what is the best approach to take, to avoid unnecessary work, to convert from the current artowrk, with a lot of overlapping artwork, to produce 5 layers each with vector artwork coloured with its own Pantone swatch?

Illustrator :: Using Spot Colours In CMYK Artwork Linked From Photoshop

Jul 1, 2013

I need to use a spot black on some packaging. The spot black will be used as a vignette on top of a photograph of the product which is done in Photoshop. I have created the packaging in Illustrator and need to import this file but it needs to have the spot colour intact. So far I have created a PSD with a Spot channel which I thought was the answer but Illustrator can't read PSDs with spot channels. I then saved it as an eps but when I import an eps it only shows a white rectangle as opposed to the actual artwork.

Illustrator :: Can't Convert Artwork From CMYK To RGB

Oct 17, 2013

I need to convert a bunch of vector artwork for a brand I made from CMYK to RGB.

But, illustrator won't give me the option to do so.

I upgraded from CS6 to CC, but am still having the same issue. It's all vector right now.

Manually changing each colour will take hours, as there's many files and gradients. So, I'd love to just be able to use Illustrator's build in feature.

But, here's what I get. Convert to RGB is in light grey and I can't select it (click on image to see better):

I'm having an issue where I can't convert spot colors to CMYK in the swatches panel. Currently to fix I have to copy elements using the spot colors in to a new blank document, then convert them, then paste back into the original document.

Also if I try to delete the spot color, it doesn't fully delete the swatch.

I'm using Illustrator CC 17.0.0

Photoshop :: Mixing A Spot Colour In A CMYK Image

Aug 21, 2009

We would like to experiment mixing a spot colour in a normal CMYK image in order to expand the colour palette. Our problem is the fact that we cannot get Photoshop to show us the actual image once we have added the spot colour.

The spot channel shows as if it is being printed on top of the CMYK colours instead of being mixed with them. This makes it very difficult to judge what adjustments have to be made to the image. Of course, saving the file as a DCS2 and placing it in InDesign shows us what we want, but this is too much jumping back and forth between programmes to be efficient. We are runnnig CS3 on Windows XP Professional.

Illustrator :: Recolor Artwork - How To Preserve Spot Color In Tints And Shades

Dec 12, 2012

working in CS6, OS 10.6.8. I'm working on a 3-color screen print CD label, and the colors will be a white background, plus black and a PMS color. I've been recoloring some CMYK artwork to use in the design, and really liked the results of Recolor Artwork (selecting only black and the spot color), until I noticed that when I selected "tints & shades" it converted everything with black in it to process (which I know Adobe says is why you shouldn't select that option).

But my question is, how can I get the same effect (that is, using shades of the spot color "mixed" with black) without having it convert the shades to process? I'm sure it involves overprinting, but I'm hitting a big hole in my knowledge.

Illustrator :: Printing Requires To Use Spot Color For Black - Recolor Artwork Changes Percentages

Mac OS 10.6

I just need to go from K and tones of K to a spot color and tones of a spot color.

I'm using recolor artwork because I can't merge into K. The art comes in from our customers as K so we can't just design differently.

The rectangles on the right are k and tones of k. The rectangles on the left are the results after converting to a spot color with recolor artwork. Using recolor artwork. I just need a way to accurately move the tones from k to a spot.

Lightroom :: Convert And Colour Correct Images In CMYK Mode Before Sending To Printers?

May 21, 2013

I've recently received a small batch of calendars from a local commercial printers.  The colours are OK, but do not match the originals, especially the blue's.  I've had similar problems with greetings cards from a different printer.  The problem appears to be that I supply the original files in the RGB color space, but they print using CMYK.

I Raw process using Lightroom 4, with adjustments if necessary being made using Elements 10. To the best of my knowledge neither of these programs have the option of editing or saving in the CMYK color space.  For more accurate colours is my only option to purchase the full version of Photoshop (CS6 or CC), then convert and colour correct my images in CMYK mode before sending to the printers ?.

For example, Pantone 2685C converted to process in the both applications yields:

(CS5)  C-96, M-100, Y-0, K-10
(CS6)  C-90.73, M-100, Y-30.6, K-16.54

Illustrator :: Convert Greyscale To A Spot Colorscale?

Oct 5, 2013

I own a textile screen printing business. Sometimes I vectorise photos or images into greyscale. This gives nice halftone images, once I output to my printer through my RIP, (I use Accurip). This allows us to reproduce some great images with 1 ink colour. The great thing is that we can output the greyscale image, then use any ink colour we choose on the printing press to actually print the image. If we output greyscale, we can use scarlet ink to give us all shades of scarlets and pinks if we print onto a white shirt, for example. No problem there.

However, greyscale is essentially based on a black ink, with variable transparency. When I want to do a mockup for the customer of what the image would look like with a different base/ink colour other than black, (and the variable opacities of black that form the swatch pallette), I'd like to show the image using the actual base pantone spot colour we will use. That way, the customer can see how the variences in ink transparency will look on any shirt base colour that we choose to put in a layer behind the image. Right now, we can only show what it looks like if we choose black ink.

So..... once I have a vector in greyscale, how can I recolourise all the various opacities (of black), to various opacities of...say, Red?

If I try any kind of overlay or hue / saturation changes in photoshop, the base black colour is still present, and doesn't accurately represent what would print on a white shirt.

Illustrator :: How To Convert Colors From RGB To CMYK

Jan 21, 2014

I always find beautiful RGB-vectors which I want to use for a print design. But once converted via Illustrator to CMYK, the image often annoys me because of the less bright and powerful colours.

So: what is the best way to recolor a nice and colourful vector from RGB tot CMYK (possibly with finding the right alternative colors in CMYK?) in Illustrator?

Illustrator :: Convert CMYK To RGB For MS Word?

Feb 23, 2013

I've designed a logo for a client using Illustrator CS6. There is the 4-color version in CMYK .eps as well as 1-color, 2-color, and KO versions. Everything looks and acts as it should and will no doubt be perfect for offset printing (my main area of experience). However, once delivered to the client they were anxious to put them into use and immediately dropped the 4-color version into a word document and made a pdf for email distribution. When I received it I had to groan, the colors had shifted to the obscene.

My guess is that what the client needs is a set of the logos that are converted to RGB. I'm also thinking that since the logos might be re-sized for various uses, keeping the art in the .eps format (as opposed to a raster format) makes sense. Is that true?

Is there an easy way to convert the original CMYK eps files to RGB within Illustrator?

Or will Illustrator handle the conversion ok just in case printer doesn't check the files carefully.

Illustrator :: CS6 - Convert Swatch To CMYK

Nov 13, 2013

I am working in Adobe Illustrator CS6 and InDesign CS6.

When I create a swatch using Pantone colour books (solid coated) and then convert the swatch to CMYK the values differ between programs and also differ to my hard copy of Pantone Colour Bridge.

I have followed the Workaround 1 on [URL]...which was useful - now the CMYK values produced in Illustrator and InDesign match HOWEVER they still differ from my hard copy of Pantone Colour Bridge.

I copied the leagacy files from CS4 - is it possible the CMYK values embedded in these files are out of date or is it possible that the CMYK values in the Colour Bridge book have since changed?

Illustrator Scripting :: Convert RGB Value To CMYK Values

Mar 26, 2013

I want a script that can convert RGB value to CMYK values.

I've seen this thread which explains a script to round up and down:

[URL].....

but is there a script that i can actually define lets say the colour is yellow and in RGB it looks ok because its in RGB mode so you change it to CMYK and you have 6% - 9% cyan and you only want yellow

is there a script out there that i can say

if

cyan = 6%
yellow = 80%
magenta = 0%
black = 0%

then change to

cyan = 0%
yellow = 80&
mangenta = 0%
black = 0%

I don't mind writting the code for each colour that needs to be converted as it would only need defining once but how would i make this script?
