After creating a template layer and making sure 'dim 50% was selected' no dimming occurred in the placed template image. How do you get this function to be active ni CS 6? It always worked in CS5.

I created a template and placed it in the Graphic Styles folder. When I use the New command and select the new template from Graphic Styles, the Guide layer disappears. When I double click the template to open it the guides are there. Why is the guide layer getting stripped out when I use the New command? I want to avoid opening from template everytime.
The weird thing is that I had a template that was opening with guides until I made some changes to it. Now it doesn't work either.

But with the contents from two or more layers, not just one. The move tool seems to always move the background layer, although it's locked. What am I missing. I've been looking for this basic feature for a long time. How does the link layers function work?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am working on the template for my company and making all the styles, labels, etc all consistent to our company standards. This also includes our standards layer names. There are 2 layers that I can't get rid of because they are in use somewhere. C-ROAD-CNTR-STAN and O_PROF-VIEW-TEXT both of these layers do not meet our standards and I can't get rid of them. I went through every style and label to see if I could find where they were being used, but couldn't find them anywhere. I made sure I check the layers for plan, profile, model and section on the display tab of each style.
Since there are so many styles to go through I wanted to try to narrow it down, so I started a new drawing from the template. I purged all of the styles, purged the layers, but they were still there. I set the object layers all to 0. I made sure that every label style default setting was also set to 0. Then I even created all new styles and labels for everything, did a "replace with" and made sure only the new styles were in use, removed the old styles and did a purge. But these layers still are being used somewhere. I tried using LAYTRANS to translate them into the 0 layer, but it doesn't work. There are no blocks in the drawing that are using these layers.
The only command that works to get rid of them is LAYDEL, but doing that makes me concerned that a setting may not have a layer set up for it and it may cause problems in the future.
Attached is a dwg file that I have stripped down as described above. I am using Civil 3D 2012, SP 2. Where a layer is in use? How you can now find where a style is in being referenced?
I have a company template file with standard layers that I need to match the layer properties of with a drawing I have already created. How do I do this?

Therefore I'd like to use a template file and set every layer with it's specific linetype and color there. If I change something in the template, say the color of a layer, it should update this in the drawing when I hit the LISP command.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI need to use a template photo and onto that one add two more photos, by adding two more layers.
Then I need to delete the original (background) one, which would be the template.
However when I delete it, the entire picture gets deleted, i.e. also the photos I pasted on top of it.
How can I avoid that?
Additional information:
Very strangely when adding a new layer, though in the layer screen it shows that I am adding them,
when I paste the first photo onto the background, it then becomes the background image, rather than layer number 2.
In my seemingly never-ending battle with standardizing, I have created a template with all the layers I expect to use in the future. The template will be used by both surveyors and engineers so I have layers that won't ever be used by surveyors. What I don't want is the surveyor to purge the drawing and delete all the layers that the engineers will need. I found the link below explaining and .lisp to replace deleted layers.

Now, I am completely new at .lisp and how to use them. Also, this template is used in a program called BricsCad (some of the older generation still uses it instead of Autocad) and using .dws and checking isn't an option for them.

I've worked on CAD for a number of years while at a structural firm, an engineering firm and took classes in school but one thing I never had to do was setup was my own professional drawing from scratch. I know enough that it's crucial I start off on the foot. The engineering firm I worked at had everything ready so whenever I used CAD it was in an existing drawing or preparing a detail which the drafters imported. When I did some drafting work for an architect, he also had the drawing setup for me.
Since I'm now on my own I need to setup my own template drawing with a title block, layers, etc. Whats the best route for setting up my own sheets?
At my firm we always worked in a 1:1 scale & engineering units but since I'm doing floor plans for renovation work I plan on using the industry standard.

I'm trying to build a command to replace AutoCAD's "DI" command, to give distance and delta x, y, and z values in decimal and imperial, and keep the angles in XY plane and out of XY plane.
Illustrator CS6 (16.0.3) on Mac OS 10.6.8.
I've set up an action that will add crop marks to a selected object. The action works great when clicking the play button on the panel, but when I assign a Function Key to the action, it runs the action twice (giving me 2 set of crop marks). I've tried different Function Keys thinking it was a keyboard shortcut conflict, but that has made no difference.
I'm using the 16.0.0 version of Illustrator CS6 and i'm really new to it. Under the Object menu, I cannot find any Expand-function that I've been told should be found there. Is this option only appearing in object menu during certain circumstances?

But when I choose edit original it opens paint - how do I change this? And yes I have checked the link-box when selecting the image. I have windows 7 if it matters.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm working on a rather complex piece of artwork in Illustrator CC with the latest Mac OS, with several objects on each layer.
Whenever I click an object, its layer in the Layers palette auto-expands, pushing all of the main layers off of the edge of the palette. I then have to click the little arrow to collapse the layer so I can see all of the other layers and (quickly?) get to the one I need.
I am using a Magic Trackpad (don't ask) so this task is particularly arduous, as the cursor is often somewhat difficult to maneuver when attempting to target small UI elements. My display height is only 1050 px, so naturally I would rather not make the layer thumbnails any smaller (25 px.)

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to remove half of a shape (right half of a heart) by covering the right half with a filled rectangle, and drawing across the half of the heart I want to delete and the rectangle with the Shape Builder tool while both shapes are selected and while depressing the alt key. This should remove the heart-half and rectangle, leaving me with the left-hand portion of the heart, so I can copy/flip it for a symmetrical, whole heart.
I have removed the guides so there's no interference, and both shapes (heart and rectangle) are selected (both show bull's eyes on the layers panel).
I reset Illustrator (opened it while holding down shift+ctrl+alt). Got a message afterward saying my Live Paint Bucket plugin couldn't be found. I can't find any info on the Adobe website about restoring this plugin.

Just updated to CC and now when I try to save over old templates it gives me an error message saying it cannot save because this template may be in use in another program...but the only program its in use in is illustrator at that moment because im making changes to it.

I'm trying to create a recursive function and the recursive part works great. I just need to be able to have the recursive function run other functions to actually do stuff.
Here is something I found that should do what I need, mainly run a function from a function name in a variable.

Any ability/plug-in for illustrator cs5 to allow for creating a rhinestone template? I make custom apparel and use illustrator to create the vector artwork. When I need a design in rhinestones, I have to send out the art to have the template created (the template is the material with the holes in it where the rhinestones will be placed.) Rhinestone creation software lets you "place" the stones in the on screen design, choosing size of stone, etc. and then allows that design to be sent to a cutter to cut the holes in the template. If I could do it in-house, it would save me some money. I know there are plug ins that are compatible with CorelDraw, and there is stand alone software out there for apparel decorators, but I would rather not invest in more software if I could accomplish it in illustrator.
