Illustrator :: How To Check Alt+shape Builder Function
Sep 9, 2013
I'm trying to remove half of a shape (right half of a heart) by covering the right half with a filled rectangle, and drawing across the half of the heart I want to delete and the rectangle with the Shape Builder tool while both shapes are selected and while depressing the alt key. This should remove the heart-half and rectangle, leaving me with the left-hand portion of the heart, so I can copy/flip it for a symmetrical, whole heart.
I have removed the guides so there's no interference, and both shapes (heart and rectangle) are selected (both show bull's eyes on the layers panel).
I reset Illustrator (opened it while holding down shift+ctrl+alt). Got a message afterward saying my Live Paint Bucket plugin couldn't be found. I can't find any info on the Adobe website about restoring this plugin.
I'm running Illustrator CS6 as an app from Creative Cloud. It looks like I need to repair my shape builder and live paint tools?
For combining shapes, isn't the Shape Builder tool essentially the same thing as using Unite in the Pathfinder? Is there some other advantage to using it?
1. Is there an equivalent to the Shape Builder tool that Illustrator has in Photoshop CS6? I want to rasterize some text and combine a couple letters into one shape.
2. If you want to embed text into a .PSD or .TIFF, do both Convert to shape and Rasterize text result in the font/text being embeded in the file the same way?
I am making a sign for my logo. The 'i' in my script face is long and overlaps the following letter which the sign maker's router will not read. So I would like to be able to use the shape builder tool to join the 3 instances where the letter 'i' appears each to the following letter. No luck so far. I have turned the type into points. I have highlighted the first instance, 'i' and 'c'. but the shape builder tool shows a circle with a line through it... not working.
i have a problem with path edges after using shape builder tool or masking objects. This problem occurs when i draw bright colored objects above dark colored object. After that i have dark path's edges. Like this: [URL] I have one solution (pathfinder->dive objects and delete some dark elements on the bottom).
Up in the Xara Xone a discussion cropped up that started us talking about the eraser tool. So I thought I'd get a thread going here where everyone can share tips and tricks regarding the eraser and the shape builder as well
The eraser tool is available in Designer Pro X, and Photo & Graphic Designer 2013 And the Shapebuilder is available in Designer Pro X
To start things off here are a couple of handy tips:
You can force the eraser to produce an opacity mask and non destructively edit vector shapes in two ways. 1. set some softness or 2. group your vector object with it's self.
You can use the H key to toggle the node view on and off . If you have Designer Pro X the shift key toggles between the shape builder and eraser tool for handy editing.
I have read that spell checking IS available for Photoshop Elements, but is disabled if I don't have the proper dictionaries. True? If so, where do I get the necessary dictionaries and how do I enable the spell check function?
using the sub-object SET VOLUME function to change the shape of the lattice (down to the positions of the individual points) does not affect where the object deforms. The only way to alter the lattice is to go sub-object LATTICE and move the whole lattice prior to deformation.
I'm learning how to create extension (flex - extension builder) for Illustrator and how to make it communicate with a plugin.
The samples provided in the SDK detailed how to load /unload extension from a menu item from Illustrator, and how to add / remove EventListeners to make the magic happen.
to sum up, this is something like that: 1- click on the menu item 2- load extension 3- add listeners 4- do your stuff...... 5- remove listeners 6- unload extension
Basically my plugin is a module/service which is in charge of dealing with / modifying artwork tree. It has no User Interface.
My extension will have a user of this service.
What I would like to do is to load my extension as soon as my plugin is loaded, and unload the extension when the plugin will be unloaded.
I outlined my text and subtracted it (and the tree image) from the black background. When I did this both appear thinner - particularly the tree.
If I then take the original version and the new subtracted version, and view them both overlayed one on top of the other in wire frame (outline) mode, there is no difference in the actual lines.
It seems to be a problem with the way illustrator previews the images. This wouldn't concern me, but when I export the file as a jpeg, the lines also appear thinner in the export.
I can create a manual solution by offsetting the path before subtracting, but this isn't ideal.
What does it mean when Illustrator v.15.1.0 ceases to contract a shape using offset paths and will only expand a shape? Seems like only yesterday I could render both ways. Wait a minute, it was only yesterday! Why would it suddenly stop funtioning?
I want to create boxes where I can tick or cross (x) them but I'm not sure how to do it. I've looked through some threads but they appear to be for old versions of AI. For instance, some suggest the use of glyphs but it doesn't appear as shown in their screenshots.
I would like the box to be 'empty' and then I can either tick is in a green tick, or cross it in a red cross. I'm not aware of the keyboard inputs for ticks. (Like those found for the copyright logo)
I'm trying to repurpose some artwork and am running into an issue. In the image below, I simply want to delete the bottom right corner of the blue box so that the orange background is visible along the right edge of the curved shape and the blue box is visible along the left edge of the curved shape. But I cannot figure out how to do this. I've tried all the Pathfinder choices and none work. How can I do this? CS6, Windows 7.
I'm trying to cover a section of letters that have been outlines with a red box over a serif for a homework project. HOWEVER. Everytime I do this, it looks like I have it all lined up and when I make another point, the points move on its own to be off and not cover the object Say I complete the box and try to cover the object by just dragging and dropping, it will avoid that area and move it off to one side or the other but never align with the actual object I'm trying to cover for a smooth and even coverage. Trying to get the red box to cover the black serif and it won't do it.
adobe illustrator CS6 sdk .I am trying to add an event listener to the existing check-in menu item. When check-in is invoked i want to dispatch an event to cs extension. I got hold of the check-in menu item in AIMenuItemHandle, but i do not find any functions to add any event listeners to the check-in option. How do I add event listener to the check-in menu item?
I'm writing a Javascript to run at startup. I want to check for the existence of XML files and process them, if they are available. How can I check for their existence?
How to change the spell check in Illustrator CC to check spelling using UK English spelling permanently.
So everytime I start a new document or even open an existing document and go Edit- Check Spelling it will check the spelling as UK English not USA English?
I'd like to create a script that checks the current document's color profile and checks it against a string, for example "sRGB IEC61966-2.1". My studio has a script that performs various functions to make sure that all the layers are visible/unlocked, checks for stray points, etc., and we'd like to add a check to the color profile because we handle a large number of files and this setting is overlooked a lot.
It's alright if this value isn't writable through script (we can just pop up an alert letting the user know that they need to change it), but I can't find where to actually read this setting! We're currently working on Macs and with JavaScript, but any nudge in the right direction.
How do i check the final dimension of image or vector graphics when it is clipping masked in illustrator. If I check in transform it is showing the size including the clipping mask.. I just want to check final trim size of the image.....
In PS i can Magic wand selection shape from one layer, drop to sub layer and copy that selected shape from that sub layer. How do I do this in illistrator, and moreover, from multiple layer at the same time.
For instance, in PS = Import an image of gold - select a text phrse with wand - drop to gold - copy paste = gold text.
I'm new to Adobe Illustrator (CS5) and, as the topic says, have an very basic question: how to hide a shape behind another shape? (say a star shape behind a rectangle)
I've looked up on tutorials and such and from what I've seen, the layers order containing each of the objects decides how the occlusion should occur, however I've tried doing that but with no luck, am I missing something here?
I'm trying to build a command to replace AutoCAD's "DI" command, to give distance and delta x, y, and z values in decimal and imperial, and keep the angles in XY plane and out of XY plane.
