Nov 20, 2012I have just been trying out the new 2013 Xara and cannot make the eraser or shape builder add to a shape, it seems to be stuck in delete mode.

Xara :: Shape Builder And Eraser Tools
Mar 1, 2013Up in the Xara Xone a discussion cropped up that started us talking about the eraser tool. So I thought I'd get a thread going here where everyone can share tips and tricks regarding the eraser and the shape builder as well
The eraser tool is available in Designer Pro X, and Photo & Graphic Designer 2013 And the Shapebuilder is available in Designer Pro X
To start things off here are a couple of handy tips:
You can force the eraser to produce an opacity mask and non destructively edit vector shapes in two ways. 1. set some softness or 2. group your vector object with it's self.
You can use the H key to toggle the node view on and off . If you have Designer Pro X the shift key toggles between the shape builder and eraser tool for handy editing.

Oct 10, 2012For combining shapes, isn't the Shape Builder tool essentially the same thing as using Unite in the Pathfinder? Is there some other advantage to using it?

Sep 9, 2013I'm trying to remove half of a shape (right half of a heart) by covering the right half with a filled rectangle, and drawing across the half of the heart I want to delete and the rectangle with the Shape Builder tool while both shapes are selected and while depressing the alt key. This should remove the heart-half and rectangle, leaving me with the left-hand portion of the heart, so I can copy/flip it for a symmetrical, whole heart.
I have removed the guides so there's no interference, and both shapes (heart and rectangle) are selected (both show bull's eyes on the layers panel).
I reset Illustrator (opened it while holding down shift+ctrl+alt). Got a message afterward saying my Live Paint Bucket plugin couldn't be found. I can't find any info on the Adobe website about restoring this plugin.
I'm running Illustrator CS6 as an app from Creative Cloud.It looks like I need to repair my shape builder and live paint tools?

2. If you want to embed text into a .PSD or .TIFF, do both Convert to shape and Rasterize text result in the font/text being embeded in the file the same way?

Oct 3, 2013I am making a sign for my logo. The 'i' in my script face is long and overlaps the following letter which the sign maker's router will not read. So I would like to be able to use the shape builder tool to join the 3 instances where the letter 'i' appears each to the following letter. No luck so far. I have turned the type into points. I have highlighted the first instance, 'i' and 'c'. but the shape builder tool shows a circle with a line through it... not working.

Sep 12, 2012I have been trying to remove text from photograph but unsuccessfully using the Magic Eraser. I have a photo of my nephew with the text over the image, I am not about infringe copyright but using the image as an exercise. I will not be printing the image. I wondered whether others had success in suing the tool as the videos displaying the tool all seem to generate unbelievable results. Is it just the various grey tones on my nephew's pullover that make it too difficult perhaps?

Jan 4, 2012I just read the thread the thread "...plus ask about erasers" but it doesn't answer my question about combining shapes to remove unwanted portions - or at least I didn't quite understand it. Here's my issue. I've created a nice "background" image with ripples and live effects, but it has gaps, and isn'tthe right shape. I need to erase parts of it and clip it to the right shape, but every time I try to do this using the slice tool, it puts the gaps back into the image! Attached is my image and the shape I want to clip it to.
I just tried converting the ripple shape to a bitmap copy and then slicing the shape - that doesn't get me the rippled effect I want - just the shape I already have. Then, I tried just creating the water ripples in my shape - but again that leaves gaps and when I try to "slice" them away it does all kinds of weird things to the shape..
CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 12 :: Align Shape And Text Object At Center Of Shape?
Jan 14, 2012I'm creating a logo that consists of the word DIFFERENT in text and a shape, a dot (an ellipse) that I want to appear above the I and be vertically aligned with I.
How can I do this?The problem is that I can't see how to identify the point in the text - the centre of the I - to act as the target. I can't seem to get any of the Snap to Object tools to work.
I feel that I should be able to mark a specific point anywhere on a shape or an object and use those points to align.
I suspect that I could achieve the effect that I want by splitting the text characters up into individual objects, than I can align them more obviously but then I set up some other issues with kerning.
CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X3 :: Text Within Shape While Precisely Keeping The Shape's Outline
Nov 11, 2011I'm working with CorelDraw X3 and want to fill text into a round shape, while keeping it's exact outline. Hence, cutting of parts of words and letters is fine with me as long as the shape is well-defined. Unfortunately when filling paragraph text into a shape, the automatic line breaks lead to a quite irregular shape regardless of font size.
As workaround I arranged a mask in front of background and text but this requires a square paragraph text which is larger than the background. Since paragraph text obviously cannot be cropped with other objects I made the mask size bigger and filled it white. When exporting my document as image everything looks neat, but there must be a better way to do this in CorelDraw itself?
I tried converting the paragraph text into artistic text and cropping this, which works fine for a few words and a small object. But I'm talking around 1000 words here, and trying to crop this artistic text leads to very random cropping results. I guess such a large number of objects and knots is too much for CorelDraw to handle!?

This crash causes my correldraw to completely shutdown with a message that an unexpected error has occured and that the program had to be closed.
Working with important information, this is a big issue for me.

Aug 14, 2011It would be nice to have vba scale the thickness of the the eraser tool based on the current zoom setting. What i'm after is every time i click on the eraser tool, it will autosize to 2% of the current window size. So if im zoomed in really far and the current window has a wdith of 1 inch, the diamter of the eraser would change to 0.02 of af inch. Where as if I was zoomed out far and the current window had a width of 24 inches, the eraser thickness would default to 0.5 inches or something like that. The idea would be for the diameter of the erser to always be the same thicknes % of window size no matter what zoom level im at.
I can figure out how to get the current zoom level, and I know how to make this script run by altering the customization and setting this script's hot key to X. but im not sure if there is a function to change the thickness of the eraser. it doesnt seem to record when I attempt to record a macro.

GIMP :: 2.6.12 - Wacom Eraser Works Like Brush Not Eraser?
Jan 25, 2014I'm using a Wacom Intuos2 tablet with GIMP 2.6.12, and it works fine except as the subject says, the eraser works like a brush. In Photoshop, I don't recall exactly what it does, but I believe switching to the eraser (meaning flipping the pen over to the "eraser" side" switches from the foreground color to the background color, so that it effectively works like an eraser.
How can I do that, or something similar, in GIMP? I've searched everywhere and most of the posts have to do with getting the tablet recognized (check) and implementing pressure (check).

My normal usage of Xara is for banners and posters etc. not art or technical drawing. Anyway, I wanted to create a specific shape in Xara - it's not that I can't create it otherwise (it's very simple to create in CAD and export as PDF - import into Xara), it's that I can't create it in Xara - No matter what I try I cannot create this exact shape. I say exact specifically because I can close to fudge it, that's not the point. How would I go about creating this shape exactly.

Aug 14, 2012under Photo Clone Tool, there are a few comments, which I'm not sure if they're conflicting or I'm not reading them correctly, but I cannot seem to be able to change the clone shape...:
"After you've drawn your freehand clone shape, you can adjust the smoothness of the line. This is exactly equivalent to the Freehand tool smoothness control. This is only active immediately after you've drawn the clone shape. If you edit the clone outline using the other tools such as the Shape Editor, this control become disabled."

"Clone shapes are normal vector editable shapes, and once selected you can switch into any of the normal line or shape editing tool to make further adjustments of the outline."

"A photo with clone edits, is stored as a new 'Photo Group' structure. This acts like a normal photo for many purposes (you can resize it, rotate it, enhance it etc, and it will act as a single photo object).
