When I make a pattern on a document and save it, it shows up fine. BUT when I go to my other documents, it doesn't show up on the swatch list for that document (it ONLY shows up on the swatch palette where I made the pattern). It also doesn't show up if I make a new document.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen a new pattern is being created in Illustrator CS6, the shaped objects that form the basis for the pattern, all have anchor points.However, when the pattern is then created and is stored in the swatch, it looses it's anchor points when it is used to fill an object. We are trying to trying to create patterns that can be cut out on a vinyl plotter which obviously means we need to find a way around this if possible.

I can't figure out how to create outlines (vector lines) for my patterns , as I need to laser cut the pattern, and all the lines have to be seen I use Illustrator CS6.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI need to create pattern using a simple shape and a background colour – the catch is they both need to be exactly the same colour.
For example ideally I would like to lower the transparency of the shape to around 30% so it’s lighter. Then put down a completely opaque background colour and move the shape onto the background. Logically I understand that making the shape transparent means it won’t show up on a background that is opaque... The only other option I've found is adjusting the colour saturation however this seems to have the same affect as it being transparent. There must be an adjustment option that I don't know about?
Flipping the idea vice versa seems to be no problem, having a 30% transparency on the background colour and an opaque shape works well however this isn’t what I’m trying to do.
I know it’s possible as I’m trying to replicate a pattern background we already use. Unfortunately I only have the screen shot jpeg of the background that has been OK to use on small designs in the past. Now I’m attempting to re-create it properly as a vector so I can blow it up to 2metres x 1metre for an exhibition stand without worrying about pixelating.
When making a pattern into a swatch and applying it to letters, I am noticing that you can see an abrupt point where the pattern stops and repeats. How can this be done so it is not visible?

View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen using LR3 to create DNG files from my RAW files, those files would show me thumbnails of my image in Windows Explorer. I am running Windows/7 (64) and have installed a CODEC from "Fast Picture Viewer" that allows thumbnails from RAW & DNG files to be shown. It seems, however, that the thumbnails do not show for DNG's created with LR4.
To Remedy this I uninstalled the CODEC. Downloaded the most recent version and installed it but this did not fix the problem.
I then went to the user forum for the CODEC product and searched for my problem. I found a thread who's solution is to turn off "Embed Fast Load Data" when exporting to DNG and it fixes the problem. I tried this and indeed it did fix it. The responder went on to say ".....When this option is enabled the files created are no longer DNGs (just an undocumented private format of Adobe that no one else can read to this date)". This statement surprised me as it is counter to what I understand Adobe created DNG to be. Can I get some input on this comment as if true it is very troubling.
My second question is that I see where to turn off the "Embed Fast Load Data" in the LR Export module, but where do I do the same thing in the Import module when I'm selecting import mode "Copy to DNG"?
If indeed the DNG files created by LR4 are proper DNG files and this CODEC is just flawed in some way, any better way to allow image thumbnails to be shown in Windows Explorer?
I played with the feature a bit and understand how to create the patterns. Problem is when I go to fill in my 12x12 space there are seams. I have chosen different sizes in the pattern window but all show up with seams when I fill the larger space. Am I doing something wrong or is the largest size you can create with this tool seamlessly only 9x9?

When I create a pattern that is NOT tiled in Grid (i.e. Brick), it usually works without any problem. But once I save and re-open the file, opening the pattern in PM again will show this message:
A clipping mask was created around the pattern tile bounds to preserve legacy pattern appearance. For best results, release the clipping mask when changing the tile size or editing art that overlaps the tile edge. I would then find that, instead of a single motif layed out in a Brick tile, I would have one complete motif in the center and four quartered motifs on the corners of one clipping box. This is tiled in a Grid pattern to emulate a Brick appearance.
So long story short, what's supposed to be a Brick tile turns into a Grid tile that's faking a Brick tile.
Is there a way to keep the simple Brick tiles?
I am having trouble having objects set to 'Phase Created' = Existing to show a desired material. They are all a dark grey.
I have gone into 'Manage', and "Phases" under 'Phasing', and under the tab, 'Graphic Overrides', changed 'Material' for 'Existing to "Phase - New". But this did not change anything.
Where else does this get changed?

we have on company drawing title block the date created field. . . . but when the file is being transfered and "save" it shows the present day of saving. . . is there any lisp that when used, it will show the original date its created. .?

When I insert the base view into my drawing, the bottom to "Sheet Metal View" to "Flat Pattern" is shown, but it's ghosted out so I can't select it. Is there something I have to do in the part drawing in order to activate this feature?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have been struggling today with an issue I've encountered with my documents that I made in Illustrator, then had them uploaded to the web. The document displays big squares around all the paths in my document, containig text and gradients inside them.
When I open the document on my laptop, using adobe reader, it displays correctly, with no hassles, but when I upload them to the web, or even drag and drop the document in to my browser, these big squares appear. I'v etried different PDF settings to try and fix this, but it's not working and as a temporary solution, the document was uploaded as a PNG.
The document itself isn't linked to any =thing, it's just a document that opens when you click on the web button to view it, and then you can download the pdf document from the website.
I scanned a worksheet containing chemical structures with VueScan 9.3.14. I tried to use acrobat 11.0.5 along with the highlight tool to highlight parts of a chemical structure. Adobe did not recognize all parts of the chemical structure. Some parts (mostly single covalent bonds between 2 atoms) could be highlighted, but other's could not. Those parts which could not be highlight were important parts I was aiming to use acrobat's highlight tool for. I was hoping if something like the highlight tool in acrobat could be used in illustrator and/or other third party software.

Is that even possible? I receive files from many different sources and most people just stick with Myriad. I am struggling with color variation between different documents in AI. Even when both documents have been assigned the Adobe 1998 RGB color space, and colors are identically called out in RGB, my output varies between the documents. This is difficult as when I do color management is a "swatch" document to get my client approval, then insert that color into a different document, it changes. Any input?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have multiple documents that need to share the same swatches. I can't find a nice workflow for keeping them all in sync. At the moment I have a separate document that I use as a swatch library. Every time I change or add a swatch I have to resave the document as a swatch library, then re-import the library into every document that uses it, then reassign each swatch as changes are not picked up. This is really time consuming.
I am looking for a way to have a single swatch library that is shared between multiple documents, all of which dynamically update when I make changes to the library in the same way that an AI file can be shared amongst multiple documents and will reflect any changes made. At the very least I want to be able to reimport a swatch library and have any object using one of the library swatches update. I have tried placing the library document in the files, but it seems swatches are not carried over.
This is driving me crazy. It seems like once you share a swatch library there is no support whatsoever for edits to that swatch library being picked up by documents that use it even if you re-open the edited swatch library.
I created some sample pie charts for a client - had no problems with the document while it was open. It saved fine, I even saved it as an EPS. However, when I try to reopen the document, it gives me an error (whether I open the illustrator or eps file).
I haven't been able to track down the reason for it. It has 6 sample pie charts on it. The text and labels are simply text or lines drawn on a separate layer. The "hole" is simply a white circle on top of the chart. There isn't really anything complicated with it, so I'm not sure where the error is. I've already recreated this but had the same problem again.
This does not happen for all pie charts - there is another file I created with other samples, and I've been able to reopen that. The odd thing is that even though I get the error, it seems to partially open the file - only a few of the elements show up.
For years, we've been printing large documents to our plotter without issue. Suddenly last week, nothing large will print.
I've seen a few different error messages, and have tried different computers, and different versions of Illustrator, but nothing large will print.
When trying to print, I currently get the following:
I've also seen an error suggesting not enough memory is available, which is bogus. And I think another error that was more vague, something to the effect of "can't print"
I've setup a clean install of illustrator on a clean windows install, same issue. I setup an alternate print server with our rip software, same software we've been using for years. Same error on the alternate server.
Nothing changed, and it's effecting everything here, and new installs. I don't know what happened, but this is getting critical, we need the ability to print.
I have recently upgraded to CS6. I have attempted printing full documents in illustrator ( I tried a 12.5x18 document). In the print dialog box there is a preview of the full sized document however when I print it only prints 10 inches of the document. I am printing to a Canon IRadv- c5030/5035.
