How I choose a color for any new objects I want to create. I've opened the toolbox with ctrl-b, which appears on the left side of the window. If I want to , for example, draw a red rectangle, I use the rectangular selection tool, then the bucket fill, and I don't see how to change the foreground color to red.
I've read elsewhere in the forum that there should be two rectangles somewhere on the screen that show foreground and background color, but I don't see them anywhere.
how to change the colour of the selected layer in the layers pallete? It's quite annoying the way it is (Dull grey/blue) and sometimes hard to see what layer's selected?
I prefer the brighter blue on my other computer!
For example I would like to make my images layer Green and my copy layer Red in my layers palette.

My Steps:

New Layer is created.
I use the Rectangle to cover transparent layer. It fills the color with Grey. The color that is selected in the little box at the bottom of my tool bar.I go to change the color and want to fill the color or change it to say Blue... It won't. What step am I missing to do such an easy thing?
Somehow I've turned off the color selection so that I don't have a color when I select a part of a drawing on a layer. The drawing area stays black whether I have selected it or not and I don't know how to turn back on the color.
how I can turn on the color again so that when I select a line it changes from black to red or magenta or whatever?
how to change the background color in AI CS5 from white to black?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a large (22"x28") poster completely filled with 8 pt text. I have a simple image under the text. I want to change the parts of the text over the image to the image color. Basically, I want to make the image out of the tiny text and delete the image from the background. As of right now, I'm individually selecting text and changing the color, bit by bit. I know there has to be a much better way, this is going to take hours! I've been using AI for a very long time and this is one of the only times I've been completely stumped! I've included a sample image, the actual one is much more involved.

View 13 Replies View RelatedOkay my script to change text frame color changes the color of all text frames hidden or not.
I need it to only change visible text frames.
if ( app.documents.length > 0 ) {
newCMYKColor = new CMYKColor();
newCMYKColor.black = 0;
newCMYKColor.cyan = 0;
newCMYKColor.magenta = 0;
newCMYKColor.yellow = 0;
[Code]...
How to go about making it only change the color of text frames on the active layer? In the final script I will hide all other layers so if it could be done by a visible attribute more easily that would work just as well.
When I create a shape with a Pantone Color and then decrease the opacity in the color swatch palette, then go to my swatches palette and select "Select All Unused Colors" it highlights the pantone color being used in the file. In previous version, it never did this. This is for CS6. Any know fix for this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWorking in Illustrator CS5 on a Mac. When choosing a color in the palette, the preview showing up is different than what is in the palette. If I hit "OK" the actual color chosen is the one in the palette, not the preview window... Including some pics for reference. In my 10+ years of using Illustrator, i have never seen this.I am using a Dell monitor on a mac... not sure if that would make a difference.

Is there a way to change the color of the Vignette to match the page background color. It appears to that only Black is available at this time.
Is there a transparent vignette available anywhere .
Why is this bug still in this program? This is my palette as saved...Same palette after relaunching.......and it goes on like this for another 10 inches or so. Every layer and group was minimized prior to saving.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI downloaded this vector from Shutter stock, but what I am seeing on the layer palette is different from what is on the canvas and if I try to save or export it to anything else the result comes out looking like the layers palette - almost black.
And it's only happening on a few of the objects, as you can see from the image, the apple and other leaves are fine. It is also doing it to the pumkin and some of the grapes in the cornicopia.I checked all my layers to see if something looked weird but they all look fine...
When I open the original .eps file from Shutterstock in Photoshop, I get the same black objects.
When I have any kind of layer, and I want to change the foreign or background color (with the color picker) I just cant. When I click on the foreign or background color it automatically selects the eyedropper tool, and I don't want this to happen.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've found this a most irritating issue already since CS1.I use Pantone colors a lot in my designs and always have the Pantone Solid Coated Color book open in Illustrator. However, no matter how often I save workspace, as soon as I close Illustrator and restart the color book has disappeared from my palette settings and locations. I have to re-open the color book every single time.What is the problem with this? How can all the other windows be saved in the workspace settings and preferences, but not the color books?
And why is this issue not yet addressed, when it's been coming up already since CS1? It's not a computer / preferences file issue.CS1, CS3, CS5 and now CS6 were all installed on a brand new (empty save for operating system) computer.
It appears that the Layer Filters functionality is broken again with 2013. Unchecking the "Apply layer filter to layer toolbar" disables the function of layer filters in the tool palette.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using a mac running illustrator cs5 and have about 4 thousand eps files (all vector paths filled with black) that need to be assigned colors randomly from a defined color palette (25 custom swatches). The first 2 swatches should be omitted- they aren't relevant to this task.
The script should open the file select all vector elements and assign a random color form the defined custom swatch palette then save the file and move on to the next.
why doesn't the color in a background copy layer change even after i've chosen a new color in the color picker and that new color shows as the background color on the tools panel? This question pertains to Photoshop cs6.
View 1 Replies View RelatedA while ago, I wanted to add a border in the background color around a layer. So, I increase Layer Boundary Size using the corresponding tool. So far so good. I even wrote into a script, combined with adding drop shadow, see [URL].......
Then, I bought a new computer. I knew it. Never update or upgrade.
Now, when I increase the layer boundary size, it does increase the size of the layer, but the "border" is now transparent. I know, I know, I can fill it up using the bucket fill tool, but first of all this is annoying, and second of all, I am really wondering: what happened? Why did it work before, and doesn't it work now anymore? I am baffled. I see three possibilities:
- The GIMP installation on my new computer has some global setting differently which I am missing
- GIMP was updated and this has changed
- this is a bug, or at least a quirk, having something to do with old computer running on Win7 and new computer running on Win8
If I want to change the whole color of a background, or even the whole image, how can I do this? Also, how does the eyedropper / color picker work? In general, if I want to change the color of something, what's the process?
