Illustrator :: CS4 - Printing To Polyester Plates
Aug 23, 2013
I am brand new to illustrator CS4 as of today I am starting to print church stuff and need to print to polyester plates I have a logo I cannot seem to be able to figure out how to print each plate for CMYK. I want to start printing ASAP. I have searched and searched but cannot seem to find info that is straight forward something seems to change from real world to what I read.

When printing separations, you're having issues printing more than three plates. I've got the OPPOSITE issue: When I'm trying to print only one or two colors of a graphic, it prints all of them.Example:I have black, PMS-A, and PMS-B in my graphic, but I only want to print PMS-A and PMS-B.I deselect black in the separations window, and that should be it, right?Hit print, and all of them print...black included.
I've tested it on multiple printers, and get the same results. This only started happening after my X6 upgrade.
P.S. I should add that when I take the same steps, and then print to file, it still saves all of the plates, not just those selected.

Does Revit 2011 have and means of duplicating a wall then modifying it to include top and bottom plates - or does a wood stud wall with plates already exist in some available library?

I have been playing around with Inventor (moving across from Solidworks) and am wondering how I 'detail plates' I am becomeing familiar with the Frame Generator to create all of my members, but it seems quite disconnected in the creation process create a plate.
I currently am creating the 3D sketch (in a part) creating the (base) plate in the same part and then in the assebley I am using the frame Generator (See image) to create the members.
How to correctly include the plates as part of the design process.

I am trying to make CMYK printing plates for process work. How would I take my picture and divide it up into CMYK so I can print each color one at a time onto a polyester plate? I use corel X4 and my printer for the plates is an HP 5100. Can this even be done?

We have a buildig form which is developed as a sweep form. The form is made as a generic family. When the form is placed in the project, we are able to see the cut lines as in plan but when we try to draw floor plates which are to be generatd from the intersecting lines of the form in respective levels, we are unable to select the cut lines.
how can we generate the floor plates which are linked to the cut lines?

I have a bunch of plates. The plates get welded to make a box and sent for stress-relieving. The box comes back and gets machined before it gets more parts added to make another assembly.
How is the best way to handle this in Inventor?
So far, I have created individual parts for each side of my box as each side is unique. Then I have created an assembly bringing together each part (at this point I have not made any welding on my assembly). Then I created another assembly to bring in my box to machine. I have noticed that the feature "thread" to create a NPT hole is not available in assembly.
After the plates are assembled and welded to make a box, I would like to treat the box as a part no longer as an assembly. Can it be done that way?

I've been using cad for a while but only for simple layout drawing for parts I need made.
Autocad 2010 I want to set up a drawing to draw some manifold adapter plates in millimeters. I can set it up for inches but I'm having a problem setting up for mm. I start a new drawing and select the template initial setup-manufacturing-metric.dwt In drawing unitDecimal and precision is set at 0.000 Units is set to "millimeters"
I draw a circle to test it. I draw a circle of 5 radius. Should be a circle 10mm in dia, correct? But it is huge, my guess is that it's 10 inches. I'm basing the size on what is printed out when I set my print to no scaling, 1:1, plot window. The same as I have for all the drawings I do in inches.
Second question.
How can I get circle centers to show on prints without actually drawing them or putting in dimensions?

I have a block of two bent steel plates that are bolted together.. Everything works just how i need except the "limits" on the connecting bolt assembly. The plates we use are slotted, and depending on the angle of the bend, the range the bolt can be in changes. I can set a distance parameter on one clip or the other, but have no way of linking the two. I have a trig function i could use if you could put one with variables in the min or max of a dimension, or i think i could do it if i could limit a point to stay on a line. I can put a coincident constraint on it, but the point will go past the line infinitely, if that makes sense. Relatively new to these blocks, and self-taught as it is.

Attached is a small scale sketch that I'm trying to work with.
Drawing3.dwg
I want to make a block to automate the design of typical cross-bracing connection plates relative to the angle of the x-brace. Since the angle varies from one structure to another, I need a quick way to draw these.
Make a dynamic block that would locate to the intersection of the beam and the x-brace. Then I'd adjust a "rotating reference line" from the block to align with the x-brace and then offset the plate edge to mate with the beam web. Sounds easy, but...
The parts that I need dynamic are:
1) the edge of the plate that mates to the beam web (since different beams have differing web thicknesses - this needs to be adjustable).
2) the edge of the beam flange (to make the line type hidden below the beam flange)
3) the rotation of the reference line to align with the cross brace line (so the holes are properly aligned)
I was originally trying to achieve this with a rotate parameter, but had no luck. So I just thought of replacing the rotate parameter with a polar stretch parameter and it's the closest I've been to resolving the problem, but there's still a funny quirk. When I align the reference line in the block to the cross brace angle, the two other adjustments (web and flange locators) rotate too and become skewed. How can I keep those other two beam adjustments horizontal?

We are using Illustrator CS4. Until recently, we had been using Freehand. When we place eps files saved from freehand, or open the freehand file in illustrator and drag the image onto our new templates, the image doesn't print. All the layers of our product templates print, and if something is typed or placed from another application, it prints fine. We can sometimes changed the color of the imprint and get it to print, but this doesn't always work.

A client notified me that a pdf I created prints but all of the new .eps files don't show in the print. The one thing I did differently was to convert everything to RGB gor the PDF output since they were getting odd results from my cmyk files when viewed on mobile devices. When I try printing the same document on my own printer everything prints correctly. why the eps graphics are not printing?
Also, I just noticed that the small avatar or symbol next to all my eps files shows up as a little page with a turned corner and grid lines. Is that a new development I overlooked or an indication that something else is going on?

I have designed 18 "tee-signs" for our disc golf course. They print fine from Illustrator to various color printers. Now, we are getting them printed on a sticker which we will affix to a metal plate and post near the tees. The printer we are working with requested eps, so I saved a few in illustrator eps format and had him print them to test. They look great except for a few artifacts. For instance, for hole 8, around the "8" in upper left there is a very light shaded rectangle. This doesn't correspond to any shape that is buried in there. What it *should* look like is [URL] .... (note, this does NOT show the artifact). So, I printed the eps files myself, and I don't get those artifacts, but I do get a few random lines, and also the corners of the stroked fonts look like they are "selected", i.e. tiny circle.

My Sister wants to scan some ink drawings into an editor, color them and put some text on them. Then she wants to send the results to a professional printing company to print up cards.
Should we be doing this in Illustrator instead of Photoshop and in vector graphics? What file format should we use? What scanner?

I got another illustrator question for ya. This might be the easiest darn thing in the world to do, but I can't figure it out. My brain is now fried from searching for help, so I'm asking you wonderful people (yes, I'm sucking up).
I'm trying to print Avery 5160 style labels directly out of Illustrator. I have the template I need and it works great.
My problem is that I'm wanting to put a graphic (jpg.) on each label. The damn bordering box is my biggest enemy right now. How do you get ride of it (or resize it)???? It overlaps onto the next graphic below it and the one below that and so on and so forth..

When printing a vector illustration in PDF format, my gradients that fade to 0% over a surface aren't coming out right. The gradient appears like a box with a hard edge, rather than fading away. It looks like this when viewing the file , but when printed I am getting this . (don't mind the color, it is a bad quality photo)
I am using an HP z5200 postscript printer.

When I print RGB documents from AI CS6 (and earlier ai versions as well) to an Epson Photo 2200, the color is wrong. In order to print decent color, I must copy the ai files to Photoshop (at 300+ dpi) and print from there. Only then is the color good (as expected). I am using Adobe RGB (1998) as my document color space, and being very careful to allow ai/ps to manage color, matching the driver with the proper print speed, stock, etc, using Epson's paper-specific ICC profiles for each print.
What is it about the way ai sends color to a printer that is so "wrong?"

I have a group of several objects – text box; rule line and some colored rectangles that act as jigs for someone to develop a layout. I do not want the jigs to print. Is there a way to suppress printing for just certain objects or make certain colors non-printing? Note: Non-printing layers will not work because the grouped objects puts everything on the same layer and I need the text and rule lines to print.

Illy and Photoshop, both of which are making me pull my hair out (much respect for graphic designers). I designed a simple letterhead with a horizontal bar that is supposed to go to the edge of letter size paper but when it actually prints, the bar doesn't extend to the edges. I have a bleed of .125 (1/8") set up so that I can extend this horizontal bar past the document edges so that when it prints, there are no funny edges. I'm printing at home on a non-commercial printer, an HP Color Laser Jet 5500 PCL 6. I've also made sure that the document is not scaled or "fit to page" before printing. And both printing directly from Illustrator and saving as PDF and printing produce the same result. Such a simple thing is driving me nuts.

How do I set my Illustrator file to print clearly?
I am designing a simple label (3.75 x 1.25 inches, black and white) that is mostly text based. I tried printing directly from Illustrator and also as a converted PDF (high quality) and the results are the same - slightly blurry and fuzzy text.
The printing problem seems to only happen when I try to print Illustrator files and PDFs converted from Illustrator. (Printing with a laser printer.)

Today is my first day using CS6 and all of a sudden some of my fonts are substituting (to a default font) when I print. The print preview looks normal. These are the exact same files I've been able to print with no problem in CS5. I tried setting Convert All Text to Outlines: On in the print presets and that didn't do it. (and of course I don't want to have to convert all of my text to outlines each time I print).
I also uninstalled and reinstalled my printer last night but I've done that before with no issues so I don't think it's the culprit.

When I want to send file separation containing only spot colours, sometimes it comes with empty CMYK separations printed.
Lets say an artwork may be only one colour, so when printed the outcome should be just that colour, but instead I end up with 5 separations printed - the one I wanted to print plus cmyk bits all blank (empty pages with only registration pieces imprinted).
Neither on artwork nor separation preview there's no process colours whatsoever, so do any of You know what may cause this?
I'm using the same print template and it happens form time to time. (not a problem for me but my colleagues complain about it all the time).

I have designed a cd cover that needs to go off to print on Monday. Everything looks fine on screen in Illustrator cs5 and when i print from illustrator it looks fine. When i save it to pdf it still looks fine on screen but when i print it the colours are so dark the images are unrecognisable. The company im printing to want the pdf preset as Press Quality, it looks awful but i have tried all the presets and they all look as bad. Everything is in CYMK. I really cant understand what is going on! I have two deskjet printers and they both look terrible (one slightly worse though).
