Illustrator :: Adding Text To Existing Appearance Panel?
Sep 30, 2012
Is it possible to add text to the fills, strokes, drop shadows & textures that I already created using the appearance panel? Seems like you can build upon text using the appearance panel, but not visa-versa. Is that correct? I thought I was being proactive using the appearance panel the other day to build a burst that I was later going to add text to. But now that I have the text I cant find a way to add it into the appearance panel. I got around it by making what I had built into a graphic style and then applying that to the text. But I had to redefine the shapes that I had originally built to make it work.
Also, is there any way to break these elements apart when you use transform in the appearance panel? For instance, sometimes I will create a pattern using the transform tool and then I am asked to change the color of the shape in the middle.
I am working with CS6 windows. I am having a problem when I made a brush, and add additional strokes to the same line.
Here is a pic of what is happening. You can see at the beginning of the arrow, there is a blue and pink link showing around the beginning of the arrow head. I added the pink and blue lines to the same line as the brush using the appearance tab.
Now if I add a dash to the the pink and blue lines, this is what happens... There is a little pink and blue line at the very tip of the arrow head. My dash options use for both the pink and blue lines.
My question is how to I get rid of this little line? What I am trying to do is.. use the black arrowhead on line with a stoke of 1 point black, and then under that have a 3 point stroke of white. In the image what is blue would be white, and what is pink would be black, and the arrowhead is correct as it is now. I had this same setup in CS4, and did not have that little line at the beginning.
I have created a swatch panel with my own colours - named "custom 1" in CS6...how to add a new colour to "custom 1" at a later stage? Surely once you create a custom swatch panel, it can have colours added to it?
I'm working in an Illustrator file that needs to use artwork that is in PDF form. I've been either placing the PDFs into the Illustrator file or opening the PDFs as Illustrator files. Either way, I'm getting a message that says "The document contains PDF objects that have been reinterpreted: To preserve appearance, some text has been outlined."
As you'll see in the attached, what ends up happening are these strange looking white lines that occur around the artwork (you'll notice them most around the CD in the center.) Is there anyway around bringing the PDFs in without having them reinterpreted? I do not want to make them jpegs and then bring them in.
When i open a PDF in acrobat X Pro, edit object, it open in Illustrator, its coming normal with all editable text, after making the changes saved the file. Again if I open same pdf in Illustrator (from as edit object in Acrobat X Pro) some text fields are becoming outline (The document contains PDF objects that have been reinterpreted: To preserve appearance, some text has been outlined.
Just passing along this preview "glitch" in CS5 that could cause some headaches or costly reprints.
We had a file where some text "appeared"on screen as a solid fill even though it was mistakenly filled with a gradient in the colour panel.
When the job was output the type was missing.
Upon investigation it was noted the text was filled with a gradient through the color panel....however the preview did not reflect this. The proper way to apply a gradient to text is in the appearance panel> add new fill>gradient.
This will preview the gradient in the text properly. Shouldn't there be an friendly error message or pop up to warn users that this fill option is not available?
I have yet another question. I can see the text in a text frame with a script like this,
var doc = app.activeDocument; var myTextFrames = doc.textFrames[0]; var myTF_Content = myTextFrames.contents; // this will return the string inside the text frame alert(myTF_Content);
but how do I add some text to the beginning of that text? lets say that this is my textFrame[0] = "this is a simple test string".what is the proper way to add text like the number one and a period to the beginning?
I have a world map with a text layer for country names. I hide the country names as needed by clicking on the 'eye' icon for Toggle Visibility in the Layers panel. I've inadvertently hidden one name and I need to know how to find it in the Text panel so I can make it visible again. How do I seatrch for a name in the Text panel?
I'm trying to follow along with a video at Lynda.com on AI CS6.However, in the video, Deke McClelland is showing the TEXT "Align" on the top Control Panel. On my screen, it's not a text, but a small icon. When I click it, I don't get the same options he does.
I've searched and searched and can't find how to get MY screen to look like his. I have even tried to "Reset Essentials" (the workspace he's using) and still no luck.
I downloaded a eps file from shutterstock. It is easy all editable and I downloaded Adobe Illustrator trial version. I was able to add text at one point of the image.
I want to be able to add another section of text and add the splatter effect to the writting. The problem is is where the splatter effect takes shape the resulting white background is present rather than the back ground of the the image.
I am a noob to illustrator so I am just wondering how easy it will be to achieve what I want to do.I can see the image has one layer and then is stippled in to clip groups, groups etc.
Is there a way to access text boxes in an existing document and replace them with a new value taken from an excel table? I've been able to create new documents from scratch and populate them with excel data, but formating these new documents to look like those we already made is proving more difficult than I thought using just Javascript.
Ideally I'd be able specific an index for each text box and replace them in order as i itterate through the excel(or CSV) document.
I already have a way to pull from the table, another question asked here, but can't figure out the object model to put the new info in a specific place.
Below is what I came up with to create a very rough looking document from scratch:
#target Illustrator var csvFile = new File('C:/users/whatever/spreadsheet.csv'); if(!csvFile.exists){ alert('notafile'); app.quit(); }
Whenever I go to appearance panel menu > Add new fill when text is selected, the add new fill button is grey and I can’t add a second fill. I can add a new fill to shapes, but not text.
I want to add a black border around the text so it accentuates the text.
I have made a rectangle and added black text on top of the rectangle and applied a mask and inverted and clipped the rectangle and text.
I tried to release the mask and apply a black stroke on the text but when I remask and apply clipping and invert the stroke turns the same color as the text.
I've increased the canvas size on an animated gif that I found and it's transparent. I can't work out how to have this new area as something I can put text on with a black background colour.
Is there a way to add to the ribbon panel? I want to add a tool bar so it shows as a panel instead of a tool bar. I tried to customize it but I think I'm missing a step. I went to CUI and selected the default workspace, went to the toolbar area and added the toolbar to the ribbon panel. I then went the the right side of the CUI and hit customization, but there's nothing to select on either the right side or left side that would add the toolbar panel.
I created one panel family. On plan view, I added two parameter for just width and lenght (Picture 1), but at the same time, I cannot added parameter for adjust the angle in the elevation plan(Picture 2) .
When I m in the source panel using the audio waveform and I add a marker the scrubber goes to the start of the clip or when I try to edit the marker it will take the scrubber to the start of the clip. Is there a way when I add a marker to stop the scubber from going to the start of the video?
Why does adding a FX (Distort - Ocean Ripple) to text (converted to outlines) or a basic shape, change it back to pixels and blocky? Why doesn't it stay as smooth bezier curves? Is this a possible bug?
I was wondering if it is at all possible to add a polyline to an existing alignment? The purpose of doing so would be to extend the alignment so that I can display the proposed kerb and gutter.
I'm having such a hard time adding several photos at once to an existing collection. Not sure what I'm doing wrong as I am following the instructions. First I select all the photos by clicking shift and the 1st photo, then I select the last photo. All photos I want to add are highlighted. But I can't drag all the photos at once. When I try to drag, the 1st photo is only selected. What is are the correct click, drag and drop key strokes to get it right? Dragging and dropping one photo at the time is just not feasible.
I was adding photos from a friend's file to my Adobe Photoshop album and somehow corrupted my existing photo files. I am unable to restore my original files.
I am trying to add page numbers to an existing document. I have tried to add them in Prepress, but all I see is the "Print File Information" and even that is not in a location I want. I have the "Position Within Page" checked.
