I'm trying to expand a translucent image and keep the coloration even throughout. The original image is flat on top and fades to a darker color near the edge. I've tried everything I know how to do (admittedly not much) with no success. I attached a portion of the image to make it easier to understand what I'm dealing with.
View 3 Replieshow to remove a background from a translucid/see-through image (where the background can be partly seen behind the image). I included an example in an attachment.
I am able to render anything around the image itself to transparency (using the alpha channel, selection tools, etc.). But in translucent images such as in my example, that leaves what is "behind" the image (that brown stuff in this case).
step 1) I remove the background of my image with the color to alpha method, isolating the part of the image i want.
step 2) I then use color select tool to select all the transparent area that was left behind from step 1.
step 3) I create a new layer.
step 4) Then I use the bucket fill tool to fill in the area on the 2nd layer that was selected in step 2.
This is where I run into trouble. On some pixels where the color filling meets dotted line area (made by color select tool) the color comes out translucent. I don't want this to happen. I want it to be solid ff00ff (color hex) without the random reductions in opacity.
I'm working with sprites and the emulator i use has ff00ff as transparent. I'm getting random pink color coming out of the edges of my sprites. These little specks of pink should not be appearing in game because it is supposed to be read as transparent. i suspect that these specks coming out are related to these translucent hiccups made in gimp.
I have two versions of a photo. One is the original, untouched version and the other has a translucent overlay on it. How would I go about isolating the overlay (for reuse)?

I have a scan of a book I need to read for school. The professor scanned the book face down so each page is two pages of the book and it is rotated clockwise of how it should be read. I am trying to get some kind of OCR to work on it, so I want to get each page of the book separate. The goal is to get to the point where I can read and underline text on my Kindle.
Here's where paint.net comes in. I have already taken screen shots of the pdf and split the pages into separate images using ctrl+alt+V so they are already split. Now I am trying to make them all stacked on top of each other like say a Word document would be. I cannot figure out how to expand the canvas to allow the image I want to paste in to show up. It only shows up on top of the image that is already there. I can expand the canvas, but anywhere the new image crosses outside the perimeter of the one already there, it only shows the gray checkered pattern.
For my work I use the Image Trace a lot. When I Image Trace something and then expand it, it shifts the art over. Every once in a while I wouldn't mind but it does it every time and I have to go back and nudge it back into place by setting the original layer as a template and then looking at it in Outline mode. I never had this issue in any other version of Illustrator and I have been working with it since 8. When I have multiple items to Image Trace on one of my jobs and I Image Trace on each one individually, it does it in random directions. Sometimes down and to the right, sometimes up and to the left and sometimes it doesn't do it at all.
Here are the settings I am using...
I am image tracing 1200ppi bitmaps and I don't need it to be any more exact than it is now becuase I am then offsetting it .05" and using that as a relief for our products. But ignoring the shift would make one of our CNC machines mill through the art. Anything to stop "THE SHIFT" would be great. I am using up precious time in my pre-production schedule to be constantly doing this.
the logo is translucent- sometimes and other times not- there is a setting I am missing somewhere. It worked this morning then I could not get it to work

In Inventor LT, it would be very useful if some of my parts were translucent in appearance. I have changed the "feature appearance" of the extrusion to Polycarbonate Clear" but it's still at the default grey.

I made a new document on Adobe Photoshop today, and I picked a color, and used to paintbrush tool. It came out very translucent and I had to go over it about 5 times before it looked opaque...And I never changed any of the settings, I left it the same since I bought it. I'm working on icons, so I'm zoomed in very close, and I'd like to have a translucent grid over top of my artwork. An opaque grid is far too cumbersome and intrusive and I can't see my work, but don't want something totally transparent - I'd like to see it. Just maybe 10% translucency. The gradiations are cut into the body of the syringe in this model, and the surfaces of the gradiations are changed to black.
Have been adjusting the color styles - but perhaps I'm missing something. Making the material translucent just fades the gradiations on the syringe, I'd like.
I'm tracing some site plans off Google Maps. Currently I have been using print screen, saving the file, and inserting a raster image then tracing over that. That is very time consuming and a real pain in the neck when I need multiple close up shots to get the detail I need. I also would like to do this to get accurate spot elevation information transferred from Google Earth to my AutoCAD drawings.
Is there a way to make Internet Explorer or Google Earth translucent such that I can still see the ghosted image of the map over AutoCAD, but be working in AutoCAD, not Google?
I want to create the effect a clipping mask would have, but for use as an overlay for a motion graphics project, I've tried various methods but the problem I can't resolve is how to do it with the translucent solid color layer as well. View 6 Replies View RelatedFor a number of documents I inherited from someone else, I'm having trouble expanding layers. The topmost layers appear, show proper thumbnails, and are named appropriately. However, there is no little "disclosure triangle" or whatever that thing is called that allows you to expand the layer and see sublayers and items. I've tried duplicating this behavior with other documents and with a new document, but the problem only occurs with these certain files.
The files were created in v13 of AI, and I'm using v17 (CC) to open them.
If this is some sort of bug? I tried using "Locate Object" to force the layer expansion, to no avail. I also tried "Release to Layers" commands, also to no avail.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm creating a sign. I started from a font, then converted the text to a shape to provide the sign maker with vector art.
Some of the lettering is metal-like mounted on a dark acrylic backing that 's supposed to create a 3D stroke-like effect. In the original design I actually had a stroke on the lettering to mock up the effect. But now, in order to seperately cut the letters and the backing, the sign maker needs vector art for both the metal-like lettering AND the backing pieces, which extend another 1/8" beyond the metal-like in every direction.
I duplicated that shape to create the background. The background needs to be 1/8" bigger in EVERY direction, so that when the metal-like letter is mounted on top of it, the brown background will create a stroke effect:
I need to grow every border of this brown B by the same amount--the exterior as well as the 2 interior edges--so that when the yellow B (above) is placed on top of it, the brown shows a 1/8 "stroke" around the yellow B. I tried doing a straight transform, but that doesn't achieve the desired result. Another poster in the forum (answering a similar question) suggested using Modify > Expand, but I can't get that to work (the command is greyed out for some reason).
When I expand the brush in paint, clone etc as it kets bigger about 75% of the circle edge disappears.

How do expand my printable area? I'd like the border of my drawing to be about 1/4" from the edge of the paper but it gets cut off at about 3/4" away.
