GIMP :: Disappears When Image Drag Onto Screen
Mar 3, 2013I have just downloaded Gimp on my iMac and when I drag an image onto the Gimp screen Gimp just disappears.
View 1 RepliesI have just downloaded Gimp on my iMac and when I drag an image onto the Gimp screen Gimp just disappears.
View 1 RepliesI can't seem to click and drag an image with the mouse when using Full Screen Preview under the Edit Tab.
I see the hand icon and the scroll bars when the whole image can't fit on the screen but when I left click it's like I hit the Esc button.
Clicking the scrollbars will work but isn't as convenient. Under the Manage tab it works correctly. I have reset the workspace with no luck.
I use this feature a lot and would like to know if others have this problem.
The problem existed in X5 SP2 and now X5 SP3.
I opened an image, scaled it, changed the canvas size and pasted another image into it. When I move new image below the original image (where the gray checker board is located) the new image disappears.
I finally closed everything and started over. Same results.
Now what?
I'm a Gimp newbie, using 2.8.4. I have a png image that's 530 pixels wide. I'm trying to merge it with a white background layer that is 960 pixels wide. I need to align the image to the right side of the background layer. This is what I did:
- opened my image
- created background layer (960 px wide)
- made background layer the bottom layer
- clicked on Alignment tool
- clicked the hand cursor on the image (530 px wide)
- made the background layer the active layer
- set "Relative to:" Active layer
- clicked on the right alignment arrow
The image did move to where I wanted it, but most of the image from the right edge disappeared, so all I've got is a small portion of the left side of the image in the middle of my background layer. Then I did the following:
- merged visible layers with Expand as necessary
That action merged the layers, but all I have is a small part of my image near the center of the background.

When I try to drag an image into a project in GIMP 2.8 nothing happens. I read in the manual to drop images into the space above the toolbox with the GIMP logo in it, but that doesn't work either.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using Gimp 2.8.2 on Linux. I've configured the UI to single-windowmode and have opened multiple images, each with a tabbed display.
It is my understanding that I should be able to grab a layer from oneimage and drag-and-drop it onto the tab of another image in order toappend a copy of that layer in the new image. I have not been able to dothis. I'm grabbing a layer from the layers dialog and dragging it to the tab-thumbnail, but the layer is not copied to the new image.
A couple of comments for the UI designers:
* I find the [X] icons on the image tabs to be a real problem getting accidentally selected and dismissing the image when attempting to quickly select another tab. I would prefer another tab dismissal method such as right-click-menu close.
* Some user control over the tabs would be good. For example, I would like to see the the vertical height of of the tabs be smaller and have the option of displaying file names and/or icons.
How do i stop the screen from moving when I drag something to the edge of the screen?
View 1 Replies View RelatedDid 2.8 remove the ability to drag and copy a layer from one image to another? This does not work when I try opening more than one image and dragging a layer between the two images by switching between tabs.
Is there some default box I need to uncheck or some new way to do this?
We are moving to CS6 at work currently. In our workflow, we need to move from folder to folder (hundreds of them) often, and I do this quickly by dragging the desired folder into the open/save/place dialogs. Doing this immediately takes me to the folder I need without requiring me to navigate there manually.
In CS6, when I need to replace contents of a smart object (which I need to do proably 30 times every day), I right-click on the smart object's name and select "Replace Contents". A "Place" dialog opens and I can drag the folder of the asset I need into the dialog, but the dialog disappears when I click off of Photoshop to drag the folder. This happens in all screen modes. It is impractical to keep source folders in the left bar of the Place dialog (there are literally hundreds of folders I use).
CS5 let me drag files from the Finder into the open/save/place dialogs. CS6 apparently does not.
Anytime I drag a Cc node from the bin to the CFX schematic it disappears for about 6 seconds and I get the spinning beach ball and the system freezes for that period. It then appears on the schematic and can be used.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am making a video in Nero Vision 10 and need to cut out the screen of a tv so that I can layer the TV over an image/video so it looks as though it is on the screen. I enclose a screenshot of the project. 'Transform-tools-crop' only cuts in straight lines so I wonder which device I should use which can cut out an odd bespoke shape? You can see in the uploaded image from the project how the image currently cannot fill the frame without covering it.

An animated email signature where an image of an arrow moves from the left to the right of the screen - easily done with a few frames and animation in gimp the arrow needs to move behind a paragraph of text which has the persons name, work address, email and phone numbers.
So the question remains is it possible to have one fixed frame (persons contact details) in a project of say 20 frames (which make the moving arrow behind the text)?? AND can

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm very new to this photo editing. Never used photo shop. Only slightly understand what a layer is and don't really know how they work.
Basically I want to take one image of a person looking at a computer screen and then on the computer screen I want to paste another image so it looks as though they're looking at the image.I have both images but how to cut, copy, paste and resize so that the image fits the screen.
IProblem 1: Tool Palettes on top of image.
I'm using a 15" thinkpad laptop, with I think 1024 x whatever highest resolution. When I use Gimp, my screen real estate is being eaten up by the tool palettes more so than the image I'm trying to work on. I like the tool palettes - I'd like them to stay open - BUT what I'd really like is for the image to lay over top of the palettes, rather than the palettes lying over top of my image.
Problem 2: Zooming and scrolling in the image.
I'm not too sure what was different about photoshop in this regard, but I'm having a bear of a time getting my images to zoom and scroll in the manner I was used to in photoshop. What can I change in the Gimp settings to make it behave more like photoshop in that regard? I found one setting to increase window size as the image zooms, but that was worse.
I like a lot of the aspects of Gimp, but these two things are preventing me from getting to use it very much presently.
I'm using GIMP 2.6.11 on Windows XP. I use "ALT + PRINT" to capture the active program's screen and "Edit -> Paste as -> New Image" to create a new image from the captured screen.
The problem is that the new image always shows extra lines (about 3-pixel wide) on the left side and clips the right side. I haven't verified it pixel-by-pixel, but it looks like what's clipped on the right side is displayed on the left side.
But the problem doesn't happen when I do "File -> Create -> Screen Shot -> Grab a single window"; it shows up nicely.
Also even when I use "ALT + PRINT" to capture, the problem doesn't happen when I paste it to a different program, such as Windows Paint or even WordPad; it happens only when I do "Paste as New Image" in GIMP.
For the first time since I've had my iMac, the docking station (which is at the bottom of the screen) disappears out of the bottom of the screen. I can bring it back using my mouse, but when I move my mouse somewhere else on the screen, it disappears again off screen.
How do I get it to "stay on screen"

View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm using Gimp 2.8.10 on a Windows 8.1 machine, but I had this issue with earlier Gimp versions on a Win 7 machine as well. From time to time, usually after working in Gimp for a while, the marching ants around selections disappear. The most recent event happened after using quick mask. QM still shows my selection, but pressing Shift + Q to turn it off left me with no indication of the mask outline. The problem is not unique to my current machine, as I upgraded in Dec. 2013, but had the issue with an older one as well. In order to fix the problem, I save my work then restart Gimp and all is well again, for a while.

I'd really like to have an option to dock the toolbar and have the dialogs openin new windows. I keep my screen real estate maximized. My tool box is 2 columnswide and squashed to the limit. Not only is it an extra step to undock dialogsin single window mode, I have to widen my toolbox to get to the tab to drag thebox.
I am in no way upset about any of this. Gimp has saved me a few hundred dollars. [URL]....
