GIMP :: Convert To 300dpi For A Book
Jul 18, 2012
I've looked but maybe don't understand this...
I've got photos from the web and need to convert them to 300dpi for a book.
1) What do I need to be concerned with here and 2) how do I do this?

This page [URL] has an example of a 3D book that I would like to know how to make on GIMP or through some other means starting from a square 1D cover.
I would also like to know how to make a good CD image from a square book cover:
This isn't a great example because it doesn't show image transfer to CD without distortion: [URL]

Have a question regarding the preparation of a TIFF image for printing. I would like to take the image and use it as the background for a printed flyer I want to mass-produce.
Currently the properties of the image are:
pixel dimensions: 1600 × 790 pixels
print size: 564.44 × 278.69 millimetres
resolution: 72 x 72 ppi
colour space: RGB Colour
file size: 3.8MB
file type: TIFF
size in memory: 13.2 MB
number of pixels: 1264000
number of layers: 1
I have been told I need to provide an image at least 300 x 300 dpi in order for it to be printed at a decent resolution.
My flyer is going to be around 100mm x 200mm and will be printed on both sides. I will be placing text over the image too. I have the text ready so I just need to work out how to get the background image ready.
My question is, how do I get the image into a format which is acceptable for printing?

New to GIMP! How to make an image ready for like a bucket or fill function. I am making a coloring book app so, I needed to make my images transparent PNG's so that the fill and drawing function are usable on them. I have made it transparent and added an alpha channel so I am able to draw on it, but fill it not so much.

I would like to digitize my son's text book. But the scanner would take longer time than taking pictures by camera out of the book. However there is a downside. The photographed page is curly (see attachment). What to do in order to get the flat page?

I have installed the fonts but the amount of color editing and customization I can do is very, very small. For example I want to take a letter have it colored purple (so far so good) and then give a border to the letter like thin line of yellow (no option that allows me to do this).
we are talking about pretty big letters here but I cant seem to be able to do this. I am trying to edit this pre existing image and trying to enter dialogue bubbles with thin colored borders.
As for the dialogue/though bubbles themselves I can seem to find any "insert shape" inside gimp, you sometimes characters are yelling or crying or just speaking normally has to be shown by the dialogue bubble but I cant seem to be able to do it.
I have used photoshop before but it is very complex and I feel like I can work with GIMP much more easier and faster but none of these basic options seem to be available. Are there addons to install so I can work easier with than making every single dialogue bubble from scratch? *shudder*
Edit: I am using both the new version and the 2.6 version... I find the new version absolutely terrible, especially when it comes to saving your work as an image file but if necessary I will work with both versions.

I want to make colouring book pictures for my students from photographs of themselves (want to see kids get excited about something - give them a picture of themselves to colour in). Right now I am using the cartoon filter, desaturating the image and then painstakingly selecting by colour, each greyscaled set of pixels and then cutting them so that in effect, the image becomes a traced black and white image. I am wondering if there is an easier way to do this - I have tried using the threshold and levels filters - but I find that it makes the image too pop-arty, like those Che Guevara type T-shirt graphics. Ideally I want to literally make the image look like colouring book picture or a stamp. Is there an easier way to do that without having to pick and delete the greyscaled parts of the image?

I'm trying to compose an image of an open book. I want to place an image I have into the book [URL]
So, I want to know how I could "bend" the image so that it lays on the curved page of the book properly, appearing as if it is part of the page itself.

I am in the process of making a photobook using Lightroom and discovered when I reached page 240 that I couldn't add any additional pages, much to my surprise. I was surprised because I knew from Blurb's website that the limit for standard paper is 440 pages and mistakenly assumed that this limit would also apply within Lightroom. I did more research online and found many others being surprised by this limitation after spending hours and days on a photo book. I will likely work around this by exporting from Lightroom to .jpg and uploading to Blurb, but that will take extra time and effort and reduces the appeal of using Lightroom to create a Blurb book. I had also tried exporting from Lightroom to .pdf only to find that the .pdf format exported by Lightroom is not compatible with the requirements of Blurb.

I am trying to up load a 40 page 12" x 12" photo book to Blurb from the book module in Lightroom 4.2. It renders the pages and then having rendered the cover gets stuck, about 50% to 60% through the process. None of the photographs are starred or colour coded. I have uploaded successfully from this iMac in the last few weeks.

I purchased Lightroom 5 and am creating a photo book through Blurb. I accidently erased 38 pages, so after I re-created them, I clicked on Create Saved Book, which put it in Collections. Now I am trying to work on the book again, and can open it, but when I go to the Library of photos, Lightroom automatically repopulates a new book with all the photos in that file and won't let me put them in the book I saved. How can I get this partially finished book so that I can use it?

I have PhotoShop 4, unfortunately. When I saved my pictures at 300 dpi inRGB and imported them into a PDF program called Serif, Serif said they were 175 dpi. I saved them in CMYK in PSD and Serif said they were 200 dpi. I want to print the artwork in a book and would like to send them to the printer as 300 dpi.

Why when I print 8.5x11 to PNG at 300dpi (paper size 2550x3300) the actual image dim’s are 34.38”x26.56”? If I print with the paper size at 612x792 (72dpi) the image will be 8.5x11 but look like poop.
how can I print 8.5x11 to PNG at 300dpi and the image dim's be 8.5x11?

I'm new to Lightroom so I'm used to being able to simply adjust the dpi of my photos from 300 to 72 (or whatever I need it to be). I can't seem to locate a similar feature in Lightroom. Am I missing something here? How can I change my large 300dpi files into smaller 72dpi?

I have a .psp image file that the information shows the resolution as 300dpi. When I try to save it as a .png file, the resolution changes to 118dpi. It doesn't matter if I just do a Save As or File > Save for Office > Professional Printing with 300dpi, the outcome is the same.

Question 1: I have a 4ft x 8ft banner that I'm designing and my printer has to save it in 300dpi...how exactly do I do that.
Question 2: I have a picture with many objects in it that I'm working with. I want to use only 1 object from the entire picture. I've used the cutout lab in corel photo paint before but my final cutout comes out with rough edges plus it takes a long time to get the result. Is there another way to "cut out" an object from a picture?
