The blur tool does not seem to be working like I thought it would work. I am using version 2.8.4.
When blurring a section of a digital painting or photo, it goes to a certain point and then does not seem to blur anymore regardless of how much I keep painting over the area with the tool.
When I apply a gaussian blur filter to the entire image, I can get much more blur to occur by choosing a large blur radius.
I would think my continuous painting with the blur tool would be the same as choosing larger fill radii in the gaussian blur filter. But, as I said the tool stops blurring anymore after a few strokes over an area.
I have tried changing all the different settings - Rate=100, Opacity=100, change the size and style of brush, etc.
I have a created a workaround for the problem by doing something similar to the trick for sharpening that is mentioned in the Blur Tool documentation:
-Duplicate the image layer a few times.
-Go to the duplicate layers and apply different levels of blur.
-Choose the Clone Tool.
-Select 'Image' and 'Registered' from the Clone Tool's control window.
-Activate the Clone Tool on the layer that has the amount of blur desired.
-Switch to the original layer and begin painting the blur with Opacity set to about 60 and use brush dynamics where pressure controls opacity.
This seems to work okay. But, it is a lot of extra steps to get the blur to go further than the Blur Tool allows.
It would be nice to have a blur radius setting in the Blur Tool's control window. Could that work?
I just got PSE CS6 and the blur too will NOT work ....blur filters work, but not BLUR in the tools panel I have tried: unintstall/reinstall, updating, using it no a picture straight after opening it, duplicate layers, selecting an area and then blurring....flattening an image, every single different setting in the the blur tools menu bar NOTHING works. And everything I find about blur is the new blur filters....
I bought and downloaded PSE11. However, I don't think I disabled my virusware. It took an especially long time to download and I don't know if it downloaded correctly. My blur tool does not work and my "guided" options are not there. What is the easiest fix- uninstall and remove the serial number then reinstall using same serial number? My question with this is- how many times can I do this, and or is there an easier fix? I have PSE11 and LR4 and I am going back and forth between which one to use. I really need all the options to work from PSE11.
After pasting in a PNG, and it's made into a Floating Selection layer, she wanted to scale it down using the Scale tool. So she clicked and dragged till she got the right size, but upon clicking on Scale (in the little dialog that pops up with the Scale tool), the dialog box vanishe ... and the layer went back to its original size. She tried multiple times and got the same problem.
I even got her to click on "Cancel" rather than Scale in case it was a traslation error, like the translator mixed up the Scale and Cancel buttons, but nope.
When I try to use the smudge tool in gimp (2.6.2). I click on it and I try to smudge the image. But gimp seems to ignore the tool. So I decided to play with the Opacity, Rate and even the scale. No luck.
So then I thought, ok maybe the changes are to small for me to see. So I decided to zoom all the way in and try the smudge tool. No change at all.
The odd thing is it is a single layer image. I just tried an experiment, I opened the photo I wanted to smudge with clicked on the tool and tried blending the area. Then I closed it, it didn't ask me if i wanted to save the "changes" I just made.
The smudge tool does not have an circular with an line across it saying I cant use it. Here is the image I am trying to fix up .
This tool lets you extract foreground from the active layer, using the SIOX method. To create a selection, set roughly foreground you want to extract. Select as little of the background as possible. As soon as you're finished (the selection is closed) the rest of the image goes dark. Now draw the line trough the foreground, going through all colours that will be used for extraction. Then after releasing the mouse-button, only the actual foreground is selected.
I am using GIMP 2.8.2 on Ubuntu 12.10.The clone tool seems broken. It can not recognize the CTRL+left click. Ihave tried with setting different key, which also does not work.
It always says "Ctrl-click to set a new clone source"
Recently when I click on an image/layer to rescale (like I have done hundreds of times) the height figure resets to 1 px. When I try to increase it back to the original figure, nothing happens apart from weird lines that appear below the image. It started yesterday, after I was in the middle of a project and Gimp crashed (which it has never done before). It does not matter how many new projects I start, after a while the scale tool stops working.
Simply press 'b' for the bezier select tool, and click where you want a line to begin, and click again where you want the line to end. Now, you can move the line around until you get it perfect by clicking on the dot on either end and dragging it with the mouse. Isn't that neat! You can even click on the middle of the line and bend it! Try it! You can draw any shape with it.
If you make a mess, just press ctrl + z and undo your last changes. The GIMP remembers a very long list of changes, so you can go backwards step by step.
When you are happy with your line, or lines. just click 'Edit' --> 'Stroke path'. A box will open to allow you top choose settings for exactly how you want your line stroked. You can just leave it the way it is, or you can make GIMP do almost anything with your line. GIMP will remember your previous settings too, and offer you the same settings for the next line. When the box mentioned above pops up, I choose my desired settings and hit the "Stroke" button, absolutely nothing happens. No matter how thick I tell it to make the line, no line ever appears.
I am using VSP X4. In trying to blur or pixelate a face in a video, I first copied the video from the main track onto the overlay track. I then added crop and with keyframes followed the face. I then added the pixelate filter and adjusted. It seems no matter how I adjust the pixelate sliders, the finished product is a very minimal blur and you can still identify the person (I am using a video of me for practice). I have left trancparency at zero in the Mask and Chroma key section.
On the same topic, is there a way to hide the face with color rather than pixelate?
I have been using PS for years and CS3 for months. A few days ago, all the blur filters stopped working. They are still in the filter list, but nothing happens when I click on them. However, the blur tool still works. All other filters and plug ins work (except where the plugin makes use of the built in blur filters). I have tested many images, checked that I am in RGB 8 bit mode, removed and reinstalled Photoshop, reset the preferences using ctrl-shift-alt on start up. Still nothing.
I've been having this problem since the first Photoshop CS6 beta, across multiple different PCs. And the problem is this:
The new blur filters available in CS6 don't have any on-screen controls visible at all (the ones that let you adjust the position and strength and other parameters), like shown in the marketing videos and tutorials. I don't know if it's a Windows specific problem, but I've seen this problem on multiple PCs.
am using CS3, and am having trouble with the "Patch Tool" because whenever I select an area to be "Patched over" and drag that to the area I want to replace it, instead of just replacing the former with the latter, I get a blurry combination (think doubly exposed photograph) of the two.
Even though the strength of the blur tool has been set to 100%, the image mode is set to RGD, and I'm applying the blur tool to the right layer, it has no effect whatsoever.
I am using Windows 7 Professional 64. I have disabled my virus protection. After several minutes installing I get the messgae: Adobe Photoshop Elements 9.0.3 Update.Patch cannot be applied. Please contact product support. But there dioes not appear to be any address to contact support. The cursor on my tools is a blurr of severl + signs and other nondiscript items.
I need to know how to blur smoothly. Whenever I try It comes out really badly and the edges of the blur area look to newbish. What I want is a blur line with a smooth edge -
When working with the blur tool, I see no change to my photograph. However I do see changes on the layer thumbnail in the palatte bin. What am I missing? It worked for a previous photo, but not with a new one I opened up.
I was using the Gaussian Blur around letters to contrast the background and getting a very wide radius with a very gradual but complete shift in intensity from the edge of the blur to the edge of the letters. That is to say, the blur effect would extend all the way out to the Blur radius fading to nothing and the brightest part of the blur was very near the edge of the letters and not far inside the middle of a letter. That was great!!! Exactly what I wanted!
Then I went to do it again and got the default behavior:
No matter how wide I set the radius in the Gaussian Blur it is still the same width, it is just more faded. And the range of the intensity is dramatically reduced, with the brightest part of the blur far inside the edges of the letters, no matter how much I grow the Alpha to Selection of the letters. Now I am very unhappy.
I tried Reset all Filters, but the 2nd behavior is obviously the default. So how did I do that??? How did I get the 1st behavior? How did I get the Gaussian Blur to extend out so much farther without overwhelming the background? The default behavior of a Gaussian Blur of an Alpha to Selection of letters that are substantially grown is that they completely overwhelms the background and there is hardly any gradient, it is just a uniform halo with little change in intensity.
My predicament: Sharp eagle in a noisy clear blue sky. Is it possible to free select around the eagle and apply the selective gaussian blur to just the sky in one step? As it stands I am only able to blur just the sky if I select it in two less than precise sections.
I can't find the blur tool/brush /as in Photoshop/. I need to blur parts of the edges of the hair for example after separate it from the background and it's very useful in other cases but I can't find a tool like blur tool.
I worked in photoshop a lot of years and now I started to work in CDX6. Very familiar with CorelDraw but the PP is a unknown land for me.
PSE 7; When switching from text to say clone stamp, or blur tool I get only a cross hair as opposed to the 'pixel' sized circle to see the dimensions of the work that will be affected. If I log out of Elements completely and then re-enter and go to use the clone tool, the brush 'pixel' circle dimension comes up as normal and works as it should. As soon as I go to text mode and then back to clone stamp or blur tool, I just get the cross hair and no circle dimension 'cue' ! how to go from text to clone and get the circle cue dimension instead of just a cross hair without having to log out of elements each time.
I selected a square region in a new layer, filled it with a single color, then tried to apply a gaussian blur to the square selection. The preview shows an inner blur on the square, but when I press OK, nothing happens.
I've created my business card using gimp a few times. I usually us Vista Print to print it. The picture resolution is at 300 but when I get the printed image it has a little blur around the wording (that's the best way I can describe it). It's not a clear print. What do I need to do to have a more clear image to print? When I see the image on my computer it's crystal clear... I just wish it would print that way.
