GIMP :: Script To Convert Images And Save?
Jul 18, 2012
trying to do a script to save time on image analysis. I need to convert RGB JPG or TIF files into grayscale mode and save them as BMP. I have hundreds of images to convert before doing the analysis.
I tried to adapt a French script by Frédéric Bisson. However, this is my first attempt to use a script, so I probably messed up the translation, as when I try it I get the message "Error while executing script-fu-comet:; Error: not enough arguments".
The script:
; Definition of acceptable extensions
(define COMET-EXTENSIONS
'("jpg" "JPG" "JPEG" "tif" "TIF" "XCF" "PNG")
[Code]....

I have a folder of 50 images. The images are all different sizes and dimensions (ranging from about 400x600 to 1600x900).
Separately, I have a little design on a canvas in HD dimensions (1920x1080).
The end goal is just to be able to lay out all the photos on the center of the canvas as 50 new individual images (with the HD dimensions of the background canvas).
Obviously, to load in 50 unique images and then export each of them would take a long time. So I was hoping that there is a way to both (a) automatically combine multiple unique images to a common background, and then (b) export them all.

I have a long and complicated road trip timelapse photo set I'm converting to an animation. That i've managed to sort out. However I also have some panoramas that i took here and there. I'm trying to take these panoramas (about 11 of them) into their component images, but with an overlap so that they will be in the animation appearing as a pan.
So I have about a dozen of these fairly wide images (2096 x 544 for one of them), and each of these i want to split into about ten images with a reasonable "overlap".
Given the amount of potential images, and my desire to have a smooth pan, making composite images manually wouldn't really work.
I've been using ifranview to bulk crop and resize images but i couldn't work out a way to do this so I switched to GIMP, which I'm not great with.
I've grabbed the guidelines every x pixels script and guillotine into layers plugin, hoping I could guillotine across multiple guideline "units" but all it's given me is dozens of vertical slices of the image.
I could merge and duplicate them but that would take ages.
At the moment I'm thinking my best option is to put the guidelines on and use selections to snap to guidelines and paste as seperate layers, then save all the layers as seperate files. However that still seems very slow and clunky and i'm wondering if there's a better way.

I want to generate a single image which compares two different images side by side. Can Gimp do this?
There was a tab called "new" which enabled me to generate the white background needed to do the merging. One of those little details the author forgot to mention. They just said " Open the first image as a new layer and move it to the left" without mentioning that you had to find the "new" key and put in the white background first!

I am a professional photographer, and I am perfectly happy with my CS2 version of Photoshop, as I can get it to do everything I need, without spending another $600 on the newest version.
Unfortunately the new camera I purchased needs either CS6, or Lightroom 4-5 to process the RAW files. Can I simply purchase Lightroom and use it as a stand alone product, then save the file as a tiff to further work on it in my CS2?

I only recently upgraded to 2.8 from 2.6 and was wondering if I am the onlyone missing the option to edit the file extension in the SAVE formwhich basically allowed you to Save, Save Copy, Save As or Export to anyformat from the same form?
I also found it strange that if I now open a JPG file (or drag into GIMP),I can't save changes (to the JPG) directly (it wants to save to native Gimpformat), so I again first have to go to Export instead!
I am wondering why this was incorporated, and if it's going to stay, is there a setting I can set to work like I am used to (and find much fasterand more flexible)?

But I wouldn't be able to upload a hundred tiny, plain images. I made this to add onto the background removal FAQ. I hope it's accepted.

Five minutes ago, I verified that my image in Camera Raw prior to importing into Adobe Photoshop CS6 was in 16-bit mode.
Immediately after I imported it into Photoshop and it became a .psd document, I verified once again that it was still in 16-bit mode.
Then I created a duplicate layer, selected the sky, and created a layer mask from that selection.
No big deal.
NOW I SEE, per the below, that I am in 8-bit mode.
Why is that?
Is it true that ANY MASK I create forces the entire image into 8-bit mode?

I own Photoshop CS3 and would like to know which product could be used to acheive the following:
1. Inputs
--- 4 2D images (in GIF, JPG, PNG or TIFF format) that have all 4 sides.
2. Output
--- 3D model using the 4 side views and create an video animation that can be used in standard format video files.
If this requires multiple steps and products, would like to know the same. It would be nice to understand which step or product can achieve which part so that I could replace that with other products if needed.

I need to convert 1220 jpg images to black & white, a size of 36x12 mm and 240dpi.
I understand how to make an action and a droplet but the issues are;
1, How can I get Photoshop to resize the images to a width of 36 mm OR a height of 12 mm and then stretch the canvas size to the right width or height? Some images width are higher than their height (of course) and vice versa (but the converted images needs to be exactly 36x12 mm)
2, When I tried to make an action and a droplet I got dialogs all the time with questions about jpg quality or something about feather.. How can I get the droplet to just do it without asking about some of the images?

I've used Firefox to save a series of images pulled from an Adobe Flash slideshow on Flickr. Does Photoshop have the ability to convert these files to .jpg? Would it be as easy as doing a "File...Save As", or will I need to incorpotate another program? I have the Master Collection, if any of those would be required.

Have an illustrator cs6 file I just sent to a client for printing. It has linked rgb and CMYK files. When I sent the file I forgot to convert the rgb images to CMYK. They were linked psd and tiff files. Don't have direct contact with who will print. Do I need to worry about the RGB images outputting poorly? Or will Illustrator handle the conversion ok just in case printer doesn't check the files carefully.

I was wondering if there is a special technique or even better a filter to recreate this
effect :
Basicly I have an image and loads of other images And I would like the first Image to be build up of all the other images ... (infact the other images will l represent 1 BIG PIXEL of the original image ...)

In the old days (15years ago) we scanned a lot of files to DXB, and simply imported the image into the .DWG as small objects. (I believe they were treated as polyline segments). The lines from the original scan became a series of small polyline segments (not joined) but the scanned image plotted as good as the original, and even better, the objects could be erased and a "hybrid" drawing created without xrefs or "embedded" raster files. You could manipulate the scanned objects with normal autocad commands, and they existed on Layer 7.
Now, I am forced to Import a TIFF and "embed" the object (if I want it to be a permanent part of the drawing), and edit it with seperate programs like Raster Design.
QUESTION: How to convert a "embedded raster image" into a DXB image?
The scanner used to do the work for me and save the image as DXB. It was not a "vectorization program", but the raster lines became small (not joined) polyline segments in the process.
I don't want to "vectorize" with a seperate program, because then it just "traces" with a zero-width polyline.
The old scanner used to save to DXB, now I don't even see that as an option.
Any words of wisdom about creating a "scan" that can become "objects" (even small dots) INSIDE the DWG file, instead of a "Raster Image" that has to be xref'ed or "embedded", and will not even plot to a DXB or HPGL format?
I have mostly TIFF files that I would like to "convert" to DXB, and not have to re-scan them. I hate that the Raster file is treated as a seperate xref or "embedded" Raster Image.
I KNOW we used to scan directly to DXB and bring in the objects with the DXBIN command!

I am an experienced Photoshop user, but just found Gimp. So far, very good. I work as a consultant Chemical Engineer, in an oil refinery.
I plan to bring converted DWGs - to PDFs - into Gimp, and then insert/modify with new valves, pumps, control valves, pressure controls, vessels, etc. That would be used as "marked-up" flow diagrams, P&IDs, for new designs or modifications.
Is there a selection of objects like this that can be opened directly into Gimp, without my needing to create each one? Yes, I realize there would be some advantages to a vector-based program versus a bit-mapped program, but I can modify and use existing drawings much easier in a bit-mapped program.
Is it possible to even be able to create objects like this and import/open them in Gimp, to be moved/pasted to wherever one likes?

I have created an animated gif with 30 Frames/Layers that runs in the 'Loop Forever' option.
I now wish to convert this GIF to run in the 'Ping-Pong' option but cannot figure how to do this without going through the whole ‘Extract Videorange’ process again as this is the only place that I can find that will allow me the option of selecting 'Ping-Pong' when I’m selecting the short clip to create the GIF from the original AVI.
I have tried opening the GIF in the main GIMP window, then selecting the ‘Video’ dropdown then ‘Move Path’. This will open a window for some GIFs, but it wont recognise other GIFs as a valid source. Even when I can get this window to open it gives multiple error messages and I can’t figure how to import the GIF into it so that I can select the 'Ping-Pong' option in the ‘Step Mode’ field.
I am using GIMP 2.6.11 as I haven’t upgraded to the new version yet.
