GIMP :: Save As High Res JPG?
Jan 11, 2013Is it possible to save my file as a high-res jpg in Gimp? I'm making a 2' x 6' sign and it's obviously not going to work without high-res art.

View 1 RepliesSo I am making digital color prints at 24x30. the photography work is about color fields and gradients, so I need super high res files. I have set the size to 24000x30000 pix at 1000 dpi..now my problem, when i go to save the gimp file as a jpeg i get this error message "JPEG image plug-in could not save image"

I cannot save any high quality videos I edit in Corel VideoStudio Pro, and I don´t know why. I have this program for about three months and there were never any problems. However now, when I want to save the final product and choose the usual WMV HD 720 option (or any other high quality option), the video saves in the lowest quality possible! I don´t know what might have caused this. Does it mean I have to re-install the whole program?

So now that Gimp is Mac native I am happily working with it again. My problem is that every time I try to edit a high resolution photo that I have taken with my Canon Rebel T3i Gimp crashes.

how can I make my images HD (high definition) in Gimp? like there are HD TVs I want to make my images have an HD look to it. I know it is possible to convert SD to HD because I've seen old sports games that were played before HD TVs were invented and the game was converted into HD. although it is not the same as if it was originally recorded in HD
whether the image looks like a SD to HD conversion or looks pure HD, it doesn't really matter to me...
how to I make my images look HD?
it is possible to have a high resolution version ofgimp 2.8 logo?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm quite a newbie at image editing, I only use The Gimp to resize pictures and to do similar "simple" tasks. For a few times now, and more systematically since the last update, The Gimp crashes while opening high-res images (at least 1000x1000 px).
ex. [URL] ......
Although I can randomly succeed in opening this kind of files, I always have to retry several times.
I'm using it in Windows 7 Pro SP1, installed the latest version for Windows 2.8.4 (in French).
Note: I found a rather similar thread here: [URL] ..... but the guy uses The Gimp on Mac OS X while I have Win7.
I just started using GIMP to try to design a business card that is of acceptable quality for printing. The company that's going to do the printing says they need to be 300 dpi or better. I know nothing about this. What filetype would be best for that purpose and what software I need to create a design quickly and easily?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI love to draw, I would like to use my drawings on some iPhone game. I am wondering how I can process the drawings I scanned into a high definition image? I do my drawings in old fashion paper and pencil way, once The drawings were scanned, the resulting images look very rough, for example, the lines are showing the pencil marks, a straight line has a few bumps in the middle, and circles seem a bit off, is there a way in Gimp to do some fine tuning on the images?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to save an image at 1200 dpi. The image turns solid black.
I had this problem once before (months ago). I know it has something to do with the Resource Consumption settings (i.e. Edit -> Preferences -> Environment - > Resource Consumption).
I got it figured out before but I reloaded Gimp on my computer so the settings went back to default. It has something to do with increasing the cache size or the total new image size or something. I can't remember.
I am printing super high res images onto fabric. My print guy has instructed me to create my images in 1440 dpi and my fabric is 58 inches wide and about 80 yards long. I need to create ONE image so they can just print it continuously along the whoe piece of fabric. So I need to create a REALLY BIG image. They have recommended Adobe Creative Suite, but of course I want to do it with GIMP.
Just today, I installed the latest GIMP, and it doesn't seem to be letting me create even a 58x72 inch image in 1440 dpi. Is there an add on or a way that I can create huge tiff files in GIMP?.....or do I have to shell out the cash and get Creative Suite?
How do I show high level walkways and balconies (in dashed outline) on the ground floor plan in a high volume space?
Obviously I can turn the first floor RCP on in the view and manually draw the information, but I assume these lines won't move if the walkways above move (or am I wrong?). Also this seems slightly wrong given the amount of automation available.
So I couldn't think of a better place to put this. I have something that I'm thinking of having professionally printed. What are the steps I should take to make sure I produce a high quality image? File format, Dpi and so forth. Make a list of steps to creating a high quality image file that will look good printed from a print shop.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI only recently upgraded to 2.8 from 2.6 and was wondering if I am the onlyone missing the option to edit the file extension in the SAVE formwhich basically allowed you to Save, Save Copy, Save As or Export to anyformat from the same form?
I also found it strange that if I now open a JPG file (or drag into GIMP),I can't save changes (to the JPG) directly (it wants to save to native Gimpformat), so I again first have to go to Export instead!
I am wondering why this was incorporated, and if it's going to stay, is there a setting I can set to work like I am used to (and find much fasterand more flexible)?
I am trying to import photos from my computer to Photoshop elements 11. It has imported most but wont import some as "file quality is too high". How do I get around this? Do I have to downgrade the quality of my photos? To do editing wouldn't you want the best quality photos to start off with?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create 48"x60" banners with text and high res images. Basically I am exporting a large 48"x60" .odt (open office) file as a PDF at 300dpi so I can then import it in to GIMP. When I try to import the pdf at 14400 (width), 18000 (height), & 30o resolution I get the following:
------
GIMP Message
Plug-in crashed: "file-pdf.exe"
(C:Program Files (x86)GIMP-2.0libgimp2.0plug-insfile-pdf.exe)
The dying plug-in may have messed up GIMP's internal state. You may want to save your images and restart GIMP to be on the safe side.

The printing company is requesting my file be at 300dpi so that is why I am trying to import at 300 resolution. I am guessing this is a bug. My question is can I somehow just open the .odt file in gimp and add my high resolution images to it there? Is there a plug in for .odt in GIMP?
I'm trying to create a high resolution version of a low resolution texture used in a game. I've found a pattern that I think is acceptable, from a real image. Now the question is this: how can I colorize the large image to that it is as resemblant as possible to the original one? I've tryed a simple colorize, but the result is not so good...

My problem is related with the quality of a image.
My question is how to maintain high quality (original quality) of a image after resizing it?
If i resize it with same ratio like:
2816x2112px to 1600x1200px (4:3)
2816x1584px to 1920x1080px (16:9)
Mainly i use scale image option in Gimp. But now i need to resize many images for my work so i tried David's Batch Processor to resize my images. After using it, i found there is some quality promble with the resized image.
Then i tried, the scale option with, use quality setting from original image and JPEG quality parameter is 95, in gimp but the problem is same. I did it with also with David's batch processor- JPEG quality parameter is 95.
Other thing is that, the original image 2816x2112px (4:3), size- 3.6 MB is displaying in image viewer with 47% and the resized image 1600x1200px (4:3). size- 1.2 MB is displaying in image viewer with 83%, So my questions are: How can i check the quality of a image after resizing it, means the image is exactly same as the original? Or Is David's Batch Processor maintain the original quality of the images after resizing?. I realy need to resize many images for my work.
I was cruising along in gimp saving jpg t0 xcf in a folder when suddenly when I clicked "save as" I got the open window listing all the files again and I could not save to xcf. Tried other files, same thing. Shut down the computer and restarted gimp again, same thing.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've just installed the Gimp 2.8.0 with Windows 7 after breaking up with Photoshop over crashing issues.
One thing P/s did have going for it, there was a plugin you could install to save any image format as a .ico (Windows icon) file.
Despite what I've done from online tuts etc, I can't get the Gimp to save as a .ico file. (The file types in which to save seem very few).
When I try to export my gif the only options are help, export, and cancel. There is no box that says 'save as animation'. I've checked GIMP 2libgimp2.0plug-ins for file-gif-save and file-gif-load and they are both there. I've reinstalled gimp as well.
