I'm looking for a way to transform 200 xcf files directely into pdf files.
I had some try with convert command, but my 300ko xcf file becomes 20.0Mb pdf file
Is it possible to use gimp directly from CLI ?
I only recently upgraded to 2.8 from 2.6 and was wondering if I am the onlyone missing the option to edit the file extension in the SAVE formwhich basically allowed you to Save, Save Copy, Save As or Export to anyformat from the same form?
I also found it strange that if I now open a JPG file (or drag into GIMP),I can't save changes (to the JPG) directly (it wants to save to native Gimpformat), so I again first have to go to Export instead!
I am wondering why this was incorporated, and if it's going to stay, is there a setting I can set to work like I am used to (and find much fasterand more flexible)?
I was cruising along in gimp saving jpg t0 xcf in a folder when suddenly when I clicked "save as" I got the open window listing all the files again and I could not save to xcf. Tried other files, same thing. Shut down the computer and restarted gimp again, same thing.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI just installed GIMP 2.8.0 on Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, but it won't save as anything but XCF. On my three year old computer GIMP will save as .jpeg .tif or pretty much anything I want. Do you have to add something else to the program to get those extensions to save files in?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI don't know if I'm encountering trouble with gimp or pdf complete. I have 2.6 and I'm trying to save a 5x7 image as a 5x7 pdf. As far as I can tell in doing everything correct. However the pdf always saves scaled as 8.5x11 page with a 5x7 image so when it prints on the 5x7 paper it's tiny!
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Gimp2.8 in windows. Under 'save as' it shows only xcf and 3 other related formats but not jpeg etc.
My friends using 2.6 in ubuntu have all the formats to save as. Is it that in windows you cannot save to any other format.
I'm new to GIMP and am very stuck just trying to save a GIH file. GIMP only allows saving XCF files, but the documenation says to use the "SAVE AS" command and then a new dialog box is suppose to appear.

View 1 Replies View RelatedTrying to change color on a simple png image, and when I save it comes out rough around the edges.
I've included the original (on top) and the new (on bottom).
Literally all I've done is paint bucket fill with the new color.
I have used gimp for a few years, today i installed windows 7. i was excited to try gimp on win7 but unfortunately its the new version of gimp that i hate . anyway, when i try to save an image there are only a few formats available: xcf and other GIMP formats i guess. there is no gimp brush format or bmap or jpeg or anything! I am making a timelapse for youtube.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've just installed the Gimp 2.8.0 with Windows 7 after breaking up with Photoshop over crashing issues.
One thing P/s did have going for it, there was a plugin you could install to save any image format as a .ico (Windows icon) file.
Despite what I've done from online tuts etc, I can't get the Gimp to save as a .ico file. (The file types in which to save seem very few).
When I try to export my gif the only options are help, export, and cancel. There is no box that says 'save as animation'. I've checked GIMP 2libgimp2.0plug-ins for file-gif-save and file-gif-load and they are both there. I've reinstalled gimp as well.
I'm using windows 7 and gimp 2.8.6
Am doing a lot of pix-editing.. Would like to disable the save conformation pop-up, so edit saves on first click-save.. There's too much repetition in commands in the computer these days.. It isn't efficient enough to be smooth when the user is in high-gear.. Seems OS's cater to those who make mistakes and can't think.. I.E.: "eliminating delete confirmations".. You hard lesson lose only one file of pix, or notes, then never do it again...
Would be nice if there was a tiny dot on the window, just under the pix, that saves the edit to where it originated, when clicked... Would be sweet if the user could disable all the time wasting safety features, and just have Gimp save the edit every 60-seconds, like word processors do...
way to simplify the "save as" procedure. I found annoying to have to select say, PNG, from a long list... Gimp remembers the last filter (... reuse sharpen?) but not the last file format and folder?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have some experience using GIMP but I have just completed my first animation for my wedding invitation.
I have used GAP and am happy with the Playback and am ready to export to gif - something I have successfully done before in smaller images.
However, when I export to/save as gif, only the frame I have open at the time is exporting, not the whole animation. I have tried this on my two different systems - using GIMP 2.8.6 on Windows and 2.8.12 (I think) on Ubuntu but I am still stuck.
I'm not sure what information is relevant but I believe my frames are named correctly (000001.xcf - 000268.xcf) and as I said, the playback is working exactly as I want it to. Just not the gif!
when i open a new file and export it with ctrl+e, the gimp 2.8 exports the file with the current file name as expected but after i save (with save as) file with a new file name, ctrl+e exports the new file with the old file name, and i think it has to be changed, because it is an absolutely new file and it is senseless to keep the old file name for exporting the new file..

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having a bit of trouble with brush sizes compared to when I used photoshop. Using photoshop I could just click on a new brush size and shape as I was drawing. In GIMP it looks like one has to manipulate the size every time. And if you're to say use the eraser tool, it has to be manipulated to a desired size and then all over again to go back to drawing. Is there a way to save brush sizes and then just merely click to continue on?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'd like to save a quickmask (or channel/path) that can be applied to multiple other pics. I'm in need of a mask so I can color the same parts of a texture file (dds) for various colors and on 3 or 4 different texture files.
I understand a quickmask/channel/path are all related, but is there a way to transfer this mask to other pics?
I have two questions about saving an image as a C source file.
1) In what orientation is the image saved in the C source (row-by-row or column-by-column)?
2) Why does GIMP only export to C source but not import? And as a follow on, any program that will read in C source images and display them?
Just to make sure we are all on the same page about which format I am referring to, here is an excerpt from one of the images I exported as a C source file.
It seems I'm unable to save a png (or gif) with transparency.
I want to convert a white background to a transparent background so I perform the steps below but unfortunately the exported image still has a white backgroud. I've tried exporting to gif but that doesn't make a difference. Here are the steps:
1. I first add Alpha Channel
2. Select color to alpha and select white (this gets rid of the white background but now my image looks ugly as all the white is gone and it's partially transparent so I perform the next steps to add the white back to the image)
3. Duplicate the layer
4. On the second layer I add a layer mask and initialize it to white
5. On the second layer I use the bucket to color it all white
6. With the second layer selected I meticulously erase the white background knowing that if I accidently erase too much it wont be a big deal - it will only begin to expose the ugly image that.
7. I'm happy with the image so I merge the layers
8. Export to png and I make certain the "Save color values from transparent pixels" is unchecked
why the image I see in GIMP is losing the transparency when I export?
Simply wondering how possible it is, because we've got roughly 2400 files that need to be re-saved without RLE compression due to causing issues in the conversion process. A manual job would take quite a while.
If there's no way of automating the process, is there any way of reducing the time of re-saving every image individually at all?
My text sometimes is grainy when i upload my graphics to the web and Facebook. Pointers? Looks great when i save it in GIMP. I attached a screenshot.

View 7 Replies View RelatedYes I am new with GIMP, I've been using it for a few weeks now. I always save my images in PNG format, sometimes GIF. I messed with the checkmarks when saving my image as PNG (the ones with gamma, interlacing, etc) one day and now when I save an image, the quality is poor, and the black brushes with surround the image are very pixelly and don't blend well into black backgrounds.
View 7 Replies View RelatedOK - so i've done a little bit of an edit to a photo and just wanted to save it to a jpeg so i could use it in other stuff. I was just wondering where this function is?
I've attached an image of the options that are available to me when i select save as.
Is it possible to have Gimp remember your settings from one invocation to the next? I get kinda tired of changing the pencil width from 20 pixels to 1 pixel each time I start it.
