I was working in Gimp last night with no problems at all. I modified an image of some fabric to create a texture then pasted that texture into another image and had happy results. I'm trying to do it again tonight with a different texture I created but when I try to paste it into the other image the pasted layer is not visible. The layer transparency is set to 100, and, of course, the 'show layer" eye is clicked.
View 4 RepliesI can't seem to copy a part of a layer into another layer. When I do that, the pasted layer becomes invisible. The pasted layer seems to be visible only when it's on its own layer.

I then go to copy and paste one image on top of the other and it automatically changes to whatever the colour is of the destination image.
View 2 Replies View Relatedpasting new layers happens so often it's getting a bit redundant to always move my cursor over to the Layers panel, right-click and select New Layer (just the way I have been doing it) to get around the Floating Selection behaviour.
I'm wondering if there is a keyboard shorcut, or if I can change the default behaviour to automatically paste it as a new layer and not as a floating selection, or if there is some other trick people here like using to save time.
As stated I'm using Mac OSX (ML) with GIMP 2.8.3.
Basically, I'm trying to make simple animations. For some reason, I can't figure out how to make any layer but the top visible. Is there any way to essentially make the layers have a visible/invisible function? I'm not talking about the eye button next to the layer name.

I need to get the visible portion of a particular layer in the final image.Lets say i have 4 layers and some portion of each layer is visible in the flattened image i would like to get the portion from each of the layers. The input will be in xcvf format.I will ideally want to automate this and output to file in some format looking like this,
Layer1 ---> Co-ordinates of visible polygon from this particular layer in the image .
Layer2 ---> And so on.
How to proceed with the script. I think brute force is to take each non-transparent pixel and and find the same pixel in all above layers if it is not found it will be added to the region.Or something exists like selection from alpha combined with multiple layers ?
Or if there is a way to find out for an image with all layers visible which pixel came from which layer ?
I'm fairly new to Photoshop. I'm trying to resize a image which I've pasted into a layer, I know how to Transform and rescale the image but I'd like to enter the width of the image in Pixels somewhere.
I'm designing an advert for a billboard, I've created an A4 landscape canvas and I'd like to put 5 images at the bottom of the canvas but I'd like to set them all to the same size which fits across the whole width of the canvas.
I made a gif and added a picture on top of it but when I try to export it says "Crop to selection" I've done that before and it just crops to the face, not the entire gif.

In the screen shot you'll see that I copied the "Learn More" link from the top image and pasted it as a layer into the 3 following background images. In the first two it pasted exact (a brownish color), in the 3rd it pasted as a drab green color. Why?The 3 images being pasted to are all Indexed images with the same channels and same opacity.

I am trying to paste an image into a comic I am making on GIMP. The image I am pasting is just a white face outlined in black. The background of the image before pasting (on the original site) is white (or maybe transparent). However, when I paste the image onto GIMP, the background changes to black, which envelops the black outline and ruins the picture. How can I paste this image so that the background remains white/transparent?

Instead of the image itself being pasted, it pastes the mac symbol for Jpeg (the photo of the little Asian boy by the sea with the camera lens on top). The same happens pasting an EPS file. I don't understand as I have managed to paste an image before. I have tried pasting into selection/pasting as new image/pasting as new layer. All the same. Neither will Gimp let me drag an image into it from finder or the desktop. I've tried opening a new file from scratch too. Same problem.

I have 10 equally sized layers in my document, each with a different image.
I would like to show a horizontal band (rectangle) from each layer. For example, I want Layer 1 to be visible from 0 in to 1 in., Layer 2 to be visible from 1 in. to 2 in., etc. Does anyone know easiest & least tedious way to do this?

I'm making some CD labels and I have a layer that had the outline of the CD label on it. I keep it up to make sure I'm positioning my items in the right area. I always leave a little bit past the lines in case the prininting is off a little bit.

I have a simple solid model of a cube representing a cooling tower that still shows up when I do a realistic visual style even though the layer is off and/or frozen. I cannot hide this thing for some reason. What am I doing wrong?

I want to move them to a new layer (layer name: hiddenObject) and turn this layer off to unshow them.
When I move them and turn that layer off, first, the color of those objects didn't turn to layer's color and second they don't disappear.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI noticed that most of the time I cannot copy a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer in Photoshop CS6. (In about a third of all cases it works, in all others I have to create a new Hue/Saturation adjustment layer).
Hitting Command + J will cause my Mac to make an error sound.
Option + delete also doesn't work half the time.
Also: I cannot do a "Stamp visible" above a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer. Hitting Command + Option + Shift + E will bring another error sound.
I have to creat a new layer, and then create a stamp visible. But half the time this doesn't work, either. Hitting Command + Shift + N will give me another error sound.
I have to create a different adjustment layer, then an empty layer, and only then I can create a "stamp visible".
Only Hue/Saturation adjustment layers are affected by this - but it's a true hold-up.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI wanted to rename one of the default layer, "Visible," to "CUT" since that's what our plasma cutter looks for.
However, I created a copy of Visible named CUT. Now when I open a new drawing, I get the usual, "The following definitions in template Blah differ from the definitions in the style library..."
I know I could update each template, but I'd rather just delete the copied layer in the styles library. However, I don't see how. Any tips on removing my extra layer with out starting from scratch? Or how to rename a default layer?
I just had C3D 2013 reinstalled on my LT and having a surface visibility issue. This may be just a command setting issue but I have a surface and created it on a particular layer that I can't make invisible.
Then I turned that layer off so I could work on other things. Now when I do a REGEN that surface becomes visible in my drawing yet the layer identified in its properties is turned off.
If I got to VIEW and ORBIT the surface disappears until I stop rotating then it’s visible again. I like to control visibility by turning layers on or off but this isn’t allowing me to turn it off.
If I make the surface layer current and do a rebuild the surface moves back to that layer and I can then turn that layer off to make the surface invisible.
Why is this surface visible when its layer is turned off?
I have layer with layer mask on it revealing only small rectangle of it.
I want to snap the visible area to guides, but the layer is snapping according to the original layer, and not according to the mask.
Is there any way to snap according to the mask layer?

View 2 Replies View Related I have several .dwg files from an architect each with several hundred layers. I set up a Layer State in one drawing with just the layers I need. I want to use the same Layer State in the other drawings. I opened the Layer States Manager, selected my layer state, and clicked export, selected a location and closed the window.
I double checked in the file manager in Windows 7 that the .las file was where I had exported it. Then I opened the next .dwg, opened Layer States Manager, navigated to the file location and the .las file does not show up.
When I go back to the original drawing and click Import, the .las file is not visible either, but it is if I click Export.I am working on drawings on my hard drive not a network, and saving the .las file to my hard drive.
Layers are shown in the drop down menu from the ribbon but when I open the layer manager no layers are visible. I can click in the empty space and the layer will highlight. See attached.

If it is possible to hide a layer but make its effect remain visible. I cant make the layer all white, put the effect on it and then blend it with multiply because the background its transparent so it wont work .
P.D.: the effect im trying to do is an inner glow, I know I can do it manually but i was wondering if its possible to do that.
