GIMP :: Saving GIF With Pasted Picture?
Nov 30, 2013I made a gif and added a picture on top of it but when I try to export it says "Crop to selection" I've done that before and it just crops to the face, not the entire gif.

In my case, the entire image has now been cut, not just the pasted object.The reason I do this is because I'm working with two virtually identical pictures. On one picture there has been a modification which I wish to paste onto the other. I cut and paste but need to align the pasted object with the picture. So, I paste the object and move it; then cut and then paste it to check it's in the correct position. If it's out of alignment then the image appears to move. There may be other ways to do this but I find this way easy.
GIMP :: Pasted Layer Not Visible
Jan 1, 2012I was working in Gimp last night with no problems at all. I modified an image of some fabric to create a texture then pasted that texture into another image and had happy results. I'm trying to do it again tonight with a different texture I created but when I try to paste it into the other image the pasted layer is not visible. The layer transparency is set to 100, and, of course, the 'show layer" eye is clicked.

Apr 5, 2012when I select>>copy from one image and then Paste As Layer into a new image, parts of the copied selection change color. It's usually not a vast difference in color, but a definite change.
In the screen shot you'll see that I copied the "Learn More" link from the top image and pasted it as a layer into the 3 following background images. In the first two it pasted exact (a brownish color), in the 3rd it pasted as a drab green color. Why?The 3 images being pasted to are all Indexed images with the same channels and same opacity.
The next example screen shot may identify my issue...but this one REALLY Does my head in I selected the bear by color, copied, and pasted as a layer into each one of the background images shown in the first example/screen shot.Notice in the first, how the bear is pasted as the off brown color of the Learn More link.The Second is pasted as the drab green color i'm trying to fix in the first example.And the Third is pasted as the Black color I want, but its on the same image as the drab green Learn More link I can't seem to fix...

Apr 6, 2012I am trying to paste an image into a comic I am making on GIMP. The image I am pasting is just a white face outlined in black. The background of the image before pasting (on the original site) is white (or maybe transparent). However, when I paste the image onto GIMP, the background changes to black, which envelops the black outline and ruins the picture. How can I paste this image so that the background remains white/transparent?

Apr 3, 2013pasting new layers happens so often it's getting a bit redundant to always move my cursor over to the Layers panel, right-click and select New Layer (just the way I have been doing it) to get around the Floating Selection behaviour.
I'm wondering if there is a keyboard shorcut, or if I can change the default behaviour to automatically paste it as a new layer and not as a floating selection, or if there is some other trick people here like using to save time.
As stated I'm using Mac OSX (ML) with GIMP 2.8.3.

Sep 17, 2012I am having problems copying/pasting an image into Gimp. Instead of the image itself being pasted, it pastes the mac symbol for Jpeg (the photo of the little Asian boy by the sea with the camera lens on top). The same happens pasting an EPS file. I don't understand as I have managed to paste an image before. I have tried pasting into selection/pasting as new image/pasting as new layer. All the same. Neither will Gimp let me drag an image into it from finder or the desktop. I've tried opening a new file from scratch too. Same problem.
I'm using a macbook pro. OX 10.6.8

My problem is trying to save the picture without a background. Every time i save it as a JPEG the white background returns,

Xara :: Picture Editor Not Saving JPEGs?
Mar 3, 2011I use XPE regularly to edit photos and save them in JPEG format to My Picture folders. However, since yesterday the files that get saved after editing, are no longer JPEGs but some unsupported file which cannot be opened. (See screen shot of properties.) I have tried everything I can think of to fix this, but the results are always the same.
If I edit the photographs with Picasa, there is no problem with the edited output to a folder.
If I save the XPE edited files to the Desktop instead of a folder, they are also alright. I am using Windows 7 Home.

Oct 6, 2012I just upgraded from 2.6 and it seems this is a major difference. In 2.6 I was able to use the Save command to save to the format the file was in to begin with - JPG. I saw all the dialog boxes only once, the first time I saved; then I could use Ctrl-S and see just a fill bar at the bottom - the same bar that GIMP used for other things, like Unsharp Mask.
2.8.2 is not working that way. When I try to save I don't have the JPG option, just something called XCF which I've never heard of before. To save to JPG it says I have to use the "Export" command, which opens a similar (very large) dialog box to the Save but with the JPG option. I can save, and write over, the file that way, but now every time I want to resave - or re-Export, in GIMP's terms - I get the same dialog box, which I now have to click through all over again. I'm restoring old photos and they sometimes need lots of editing so I usually resave a lot. But having to go through all those dialogs over and over is really time-consuming.
Plus, if I try to close the file right after I've done the Export thing I still get a warning that I'm trying to close without saving and my data might be lost. Presumably this is because I haven't saved to that other format - XCF - because when I try a plain Save I don't get the warning message. But then I have two files instead of one and I have to take time to delete the XCF one.
I admit I'm no GIMP expert but I was actually starting to get comfortable with 2.6 to the point where it was fairly easy to do what I needed to do for these photos. Now I've got this save issue which has taken my comfort level way back. Am I missing something here? Is there an easier and faster way to save my JPGs and not have to deal with other formats I don't need? I've looked in Preferences but there doesn't seem to be anything there useful.
FYI, I'm using GIMP in Windows XP SP3.
GIMP :: Skript-Fu / Saving JPG As Little As Possible
Apr 7, 2012how to save a JPG using as little space as possible as well as using Skript-Fu. That in fact means just saving Bytes which are directly related to the image itself and avoiding meta informations and what ever else is saved with it.For comparison reasons I have saved a JPG using the ordinary Gimp GUI (so no Skript-Fu). The result was ok. Unfortunately saving using Skript-Fu did not bring the same results regarding the image size.The function file-jpeg-save actually comes with most of the parameters available in the ordinary GUI save form however, except "Save EXIF data" and "Save thumbnails".
Well, the EXIF data are no problem. Those are parasite data and parasites can easily be detached from images, drawables and even global settings. And that obviously saves some bytes.But I could not find anything regarding saving the thumbnail data. So my questions are: How to avoid saving the thumbnails within the image? Are there other data which are not directly image data? And if yes how can i get rid of them? Or maybe is there even a tutorial on how to save jpg as small as possible using Skript-Fu?
