Jun 5, 2013I'm using CS5 (Windows) and I'd like to export a video as an image sequence BUT I want to define the frame interval (e.g. export ONLY every 5th frame and ignore the rest). I guess it's possible to manually delete those frames that I don't need after exporting them; however, I have thousands of frames and it work if I could automate it.
Is it possible to do this in Photoshop or should I look for another software?

GIMP :: Moving Floating Layers - Only Outline Will Move (2012)
Mar 3, 2012After pasting a new object in order to create a new layer, in thelayers menu there should be Floating Selection ("pasted Layer") like Burnie wrote. Forme, I right-click the "pasted layer" and select "New Layer", and the pasted object showsup as a new layer. From there, I make sure I deselect everything (SELECT > NONE), andthen use the move tool (making sure the cursor is over the pasted object) to click onthe object in your new layer in order to move it.
You can move it first too though (then press ctrl+shift+N to turn itinto a regular layer). I find that quicker, but whatever floats yourboat. Layer. Whatever.
GIMP :: Export GIF File With Delay Specified In Name Of Layers
Oct 25, 2013I am creating a gif animation with GIMP 2.8.6 in Windows 7 64 bits.
I open the png files with the option "Open as layers" and then I edit the name of each layer setting the delay and the mode, for example "layer1(1000 ms)(replace)", "layer2(5000 ms)(replace)", ...
If I go to "Filters->Animation->Reproduce" the animation is OK. But if I export the file to a .gif file, the delay between layers is the specified in the Export options and not the delay which I set in the name of the layers.
How can I export a .gif file with the delay specified in the name of layers?

GIMP :: Digitizing / Tracing Image With 2.8 (2012)
Jun 25, 2012I am considering using GIMP 2.8 on my system with Mac OS X 10.6.8 to do thefollowing:
(1) Digitise a photograph by tracing over parts of it with lines. The photocould be, say, the roots of a tree. The lines would be colour codeddepending on the state of what they are over. I.e. roots in one state getstraced with one colour, while roots in another state would get a differentcolour. In the end I might end up with a bunch of lines, with the differentcolours of lines organised in different layers.
(2) Calculate the relative proportion of lines of a certain colour to thetotal length of all lines.
To do the above, I am wondering if GIMP has the ability to calculate thelength of lines drawn over an image (in, say, number of pixels). This way, Ican obtain the total pixel length all lines put together, and the totalpixel length of, say, just the blue lines.
Do you think GIMP is suitable for this kind of image analyses? Or should Iuse a vector based program like Inkscape?

Aug 20, 2012I am trying to make my image fade to black on one side. I have read the blend tool tutorial in the user manual but all I can get to hap pen is a black and white gradient completely covering my image. I have tried adding a transparent layer over the image and applying the gradient to it but for some reason when one side of the image (using the linear mode) starts to get darker, the other side gets lighter, creating a severely distorted contrast with the image, plus the fade covers an entire half of the image.

The sequence being exported is actually used at one point in the sequence I want to export, otherwise I would just delete it temporarily. I'm using Premiere CC 7.2.

Mar 30, 2014I just discovered an issue with the LR5.3 Export module on my Windows 7 system when exporting JPEG image files with 'Sequence' File renaming and 'Original' File Settings to a subfolder. When exporting approximately 100 JPEG image files LR shows a file count in the subfolder of ~1/2 the actual file count and the ability to 'Synchronize Folder' disappears. The correct number of files appear in the subfolder using Windows Explorer, so they all were successfully exported and renamed properly. LR must be closed and reopened to restore the ability to 'Synchronize Folders' and/or 'Import' images using the Import module. I've never encountered this problem before since I normally process raw image files, which do not exhibit this issue.

Dec 13, 2013I have collected a number of archival photos that are scanned from various sources. Obviously- when they are scanned the date of origination is the date they were scanned not the actual date the photo was taken. I can remedy this in the 'edit capture time' feature. But there are thousand of photos and this is time consuming and often a guess. So, sometimes being lazy I forget. However, Lightroom allows me to arrange photos in a specific order. So for the sake of this discussion I can arrange histroical images in what I believe is the best the chronological order. Now I want to export these files without scrambing the order in which they are arranged. Not all the dates may be accurate so I don't want to rely on that feature. I want to export the photos in the sequence in which they are arranged. It might be as simple as adding a prefix 1-filename, 2-filename, etc. I've attempted exporting several times in the past but invariably it arranges everything by an alphanumeric sort.

I'm aware that using hashes [#####] allows you to add the amount of zeroes you want in the filename for numbering the frames, but is there any way to export without any zeroes?

Because I want to edit the base and put clothes on it and such. I opened the image in gimp and added the lines for the clothes on multiple layers. I went in to color it and the color showed up grey, any color i used turned out to be grey. Then I looked up at where they put the name of the image and it says: (greyscale, 6 layers) I assume that why i cant color it. is their any way to change this so i can add and edit color?

Mar 12, 2013I'm having some issues using either GIMP or PS to do this, so I figured I'd ask here. when it comes to image editing and tasks like this, but I'm currently being asked to do something for a job.
I need to take a single image which is a restaurant floor layout, then make it so all of the tables on the image are a different layer so that they can be moved around/customized accordingly.
As far as I can tell, this would involve creating layers, copying the tables from the main image, pasting them all on top as their own layer, and then sliding them around from there.
Is there any easy way to do this, or am I completely off-base?

Jun 4, 2012I have some very old GB postage stamps which can be identified by their plate numbers. The plate number, which is engraved in the design of the stamp, has an effect on the stamp's value. Unfortunately on a number of stamps the cancellation mark obliterates the plate number. I would like to be able, in a digital image, to lift the image of the cancellation mark to reveal the design underneath.
I have tried using Adobe and Corel imaging software without luck.

Mar 17, 2013I encountered an interesting problem yesterday while trying to export an image as a jpg. I've outlined what I did.
I had a jpg file of dimensions 150wide X 100 high. Lets call this small.jpg . I had another jpg image that was much larger. Let's call this large.jpg . I wanted to change the size of large.jpg to have the same dimensions as small.jpg.
For convenience, I pasted the large.jpg onto small.jpg and then used the resize tool. When I clicked on export I got the following error-
Saving `large_to_small.jpg` failed
JPEG image plug-in could not save image. I could have sworn that I've done this before and it worked. So I wasted a lot of time trying to `fix` GIMP.
Solutions
1. Don't paste onto a pre-existing image. Create the canvas size you require then paste the image then resize and export.
2. If you do happen to paste an image onto another for resizing. Close all the files except the current one you are working with. Now choose select all and copy then go to file >>create>> from clipboard. The new image should be of the same dimensions. Export.
One thing I should mention, even though there was an error, the image large_to_small.jpg was created (file size 0 bytes). As you would expect, the jpg file couldn't be opened in GIMP.

I think this is because the number sequence on the camera is set to numerical is set so Lightroom has not exported the photo in my desire sequence.

Feb 26, 2014So I shot all the footage in 1920x1080 and the client said they wanted 1280x720 .mov files as final output.I edited the 1080p footage in a 720p sequence so I could reframe a bit. Now they want 640x480 .mov as final output. I can easily find presets for .mp4 at 640x480 but I'm struggling to find a way to export at that resolution in .mov.
