GIMP :: Create Animated GIF Fade In

Dec 13, 2011

I'm trying to create a fade in animated gif based on a youtube tutorial. The tutorial has a background then creates a new image layer. The image layer is duplicated and the opacity is increased from lower to higher values.

A copy of the background is created and placed under each newly created layer.

The video then merges the layers down into the copied backgrounds. This is where my gimp version does not work. My new images will not merge down into the copied backgrounds. Is there a setting that I am missing on my layers?

Photoshop :: Exporting Animated GIFs With Fade Transitions In CS6

Oct 1, 2012

So I created a basic slideshow banner with three different images that fade from one to the next. When I preview it on the timeline, everything looks great, but when I go to save for web and select gif, then hit play for a preview, the fade transitions are gone and they just hard cut from one to the next. How to keep those fade transitions when exporting?

Paint.NET :: How To Create Fade Effect

Apr 18, 2013

I've used Paint.net for quite some time, using it mainly for two-tone graphic art or pixel art. Quite a while ago, I created this cool effect that I'll demonstrate with images, however, I have literally completely forgotten how exactly I did it.

Anyway, here's the walk through process of the effect, it's a fade in, making it seem like there are clouds at the bottom of the silhouette that cover the black of the lower layer while doing so in a way that is like a gradient, but of course, not so linear and straight -

Here's the first image, ignore the shaft of light:

The 2nd image shows the silhouette, the shadow of a colossus, if you will. What I want to do is add something that blends the black to the background, so you can't see his feet:

The 3rd image here shows the first layer of fade (and the first layer only), this layer doesn't directly cover up the lower part of the silhouette but it does add some sort of cover for the lower parts of the main silhouette to create a more subtle blend as opposed to straight black over dark green:

This is the 4th image detailing the 2nd fade-layer, still separate from the 1st fade layer just to show them separately:

And finally, the fifth image showing both fade-layers, the silhouette and the background color:

Ok, so that's that. Basically, how did I do that? What did I actually do? I've been playing around with the image for quite a long time, and the whole reason I'm doing this is because I'm recreating the image in a much higher resolution but I want it to be perfect, of course, and want to recreate and remember this effect.

I think, but am not sure, that it may have had something to do with the "Clouds" option, found under "Render". Maybe the Gradient option and blurs.

GIMP :: Using Fade Command

Dec 17, 2013

I've just downloaded and installed GIMP so it really might be too early to ask this, but after searching I've not been able to find much of an answer. In Photoshop most of my work uses the fade command. I've discovered this in GIMP and it works with some tools but not others (it's grayed out).So for example, if I wanted to draw with the paintbrush and then fade it to 50%, how would I do so? I'm suspecting there's some way to do it that doesn't involve Edit > Fade.

VideoStudio :: How To Create Long Fade Transition

Dec 5, 2011

Trying to edit an 8 to 10 second fade from black to a clip.

The closest I can get is this: Black color, Crossfade Transition, Video Clip This would work, but transitions are limited to 3 seconds.

Also, is there a way to freeze a video for a defined amount of time? I know inserting a capture of the last frame as a still image would work, but seems like a bit of extra work.

GIMP :: Fade Out A Flattened Bitmap

Jun 14, 2012

I have a flattened bitmap (no layers) and I would like to make it "fade" out to one side in a pixelated way, as if the pixels of the image is breaking up and the image is dissolving into transparent. I don't know if that explains it well, but a little like this image:

GIMP :: Black Boarders Fade To Transparent?

Dec 1, 2013

I would like to add some black boarders to my fotos that fade to transparent. a little bit like this [URL]But with the difference that I dont need the boarders to be really really dark. they sould be more transparent where I can still see some of the details of the foto layer beneath. The idea is more to give my pictures some slightly darker boarders so that I can print them out and they look somehow similar when I put them on the wall...

So theoretically i thought of adding a new layer, make a rounded selection, invert the selection and use the blend tool from black to transparent (if this is somehow possible). But maybe there is an easier or better way or maybe there exist some additonal plugins where I can do some simple foto things like that with a already existing filter?

GIMP :: Use Layers Option To Fade Image Into White?

I figured out how to use the layers option to fade an image into white for a Blackberry theme I'm making. After getting the hang of that, I figured I could try the same thing with a different image. But instead of opening up both images in different colors, both show up as the color of the first image. Both images are png files, the same file format that I used the first set of images for. I have not changed the size nor made anything transparent.

GIMP :: How To Fade Edges Of Oval Slowly To White

Mar 30, 2012

I've been using gimp for awhile now and have had great success using itto retouch about a zillion scans of old family photographs. but other than then few things I need in order to do that (paintbrush, clone tool, rotate tool and crop) I am still largely ignorant of how to use gimp. (There's just so much functionality in there, and I'm sure that I don't even have any use for about 90% of it.)

Anyway, a relative just sent me an old old family photo that some nitwit, perhaps a generation or two ago, did some seriously violence to with a pair of scissors. To salvage this one and to make it look presentable I really need to be able to take the scan I have of it and crop it into a oval shape.(Yes, it is a portrait.)

So anyway, how do I do this? It isn't obviously. I already did manage to figure out how to make a selection of the exact size and shape (and location)of oval that I want, and I _did_ make a selection like that... at least I_thought_ that I did... but then when I did crop-to-selection I ended up with the picture cropped to a rectangular shape, where the rectangle in question is, quite apparently, the rectangle which only and exactly contained the oval that I had selected earlier.

I'm sort-of guessing that what I really want is gonna end up being another one of these things that ends up involving multiple layers... yes? I mean of course, what I _really_ want to end up with is an image that _is_ in fact a rectangle, but everything outside of my selected oval has to end up being painted total white (255).

This is a strictly B&W image, BTW... just like all really old family photographs everywhere. How to fade the edges of the oval slowly to white.

GIMP :: How Make Image Fade To Black (2012)

Aug 20, 2012

I am trying to make my image fade to black on one side. I have read the blend tool tutorial in the user manual but all I can get to hap pen  is a black and white gradient completely covering my image.  I have tried adding a transparent layer over the image and applying the gradient to it but for some reason when one side of the image (using the linear mode) starts to get darker, the other side gets lighter, creating a severely distorted contrast with the image, plus the fade covers an entire half of the image.

GIMP :: Animated GIF Freezing?

Mar 15, 2013

I've never been into animation very much but recently, while making an avatar, I couldn't make up my mind which of the three chipmunks from Alvin and the Chipmunks I should put into it. I decided to try an animated gif and put them all in a constant loop one-by-one. How hard can it be, I thought.

Well, turns out it wasn't and here it is:

On paper, it works fine but in practise, it doesn't for reasons I can't fathom. I've tested it on three forums and on every one of them, it occasionally freezes in the last frame and refuses to execute the animation while other people's animated signatures and avatars animate just fine so it's safe to assume that there's something wrong with my gif.

Here are the settings I used while exporting:

GIMP :: Animated Route Along A Map

Feb 12, 2010

How to create an animated route along a map. Here's the final image...

While these steps will only show how to add a single route to a map, you can add as many routes as you would like and even instruct the script to start on any layer or have any number of frames.

I'm using GIMP 2.6.6 for the tutorial. You will need the following script installed to complete the tutorial ->Animated Path Stroking Script Suite. The script zip file was updated today (December 26, 2013) to include brushes from GIMP 2.6. GIMP 2.8 no longer uses them, but in order to run the script effectively without having to modify the script itself, please add the brushes to your GIMP brushes folder here: C:/Program Files/GIMP-2.0/share/gimp2.0/brushes There have been no changes to the script, so if you have the previous version, there is no need to install it.

It's probably a good idea to have the animation settings script installed on your computer so you can quickly adjust the timing of the layers. That script can be download here-> saulgoode's animation settings script

Let's begin.

Step 1

Open up your desired map in GIMP. I'm using one from Google that's near my house in Central Florida and I'll show you how to get to Disney World.

Step 2

Create a duplicate of the map so you have two layers. Here's a screenshot of the layer dialog window.

Step 3

Grab your path tool and start creating your path on the image. Here's what my path looks like. I started near the green dot and finished at the red dot. The path will be painted in the direction you draw it.

Step 4

With your path now drawn, make your top layer active by clicking on it in the layer dialog window...(It's highlighted in blue in my screenshot.) This is the layer we will start drawing on. The bottom layer will be left untouched.

Step 5

Choose the brush you want to paint with. I chose the Circle Fuzzy (07) and set the spacing to 1.0

Step 6

Click on the Paths Tab in GIMP and it will show the path dialog window and all of the paths you have for that image. Right now, we should only have one. Right-click on that path and choose Animated Path Stroking.

Here's the settings I picked...

Click OK and script will do the rest and your animation should look something like so:

Step 7

If you want to alter the speed of the layers, make sure you installed the Animation Settings script I recommended at the beginning of the tutorial and go to Filters > Animation > Settings... Under delay you set the timing. The larger the number the longer the delay. I picked 100 and set the mode to Replace. I then added a longer delay (1.5 seconds or 1500 ms) to my first and last frames. To do that, I double-clicked on the layer name changed the timing number to (1500ms), and then hit the <Enter> key. Make sure you hit the <Enter> key so that GIMP will know to make the changes.

That's it! Give it a shot and see what you come up with. Try adding more routes to the map, changing brush size, colors, and altering the number of frames they are drawn over. Don't be afraid to experiment with the settings. Undo is your friend!

GIMP :: How To Edit Animated GIF

Oct 31, 2013

I would like to edit an animated GIF. I can open it in GIMP and the various frames appear as layers - all good so far. I would like to paste in an object into each frame then re-export. The problem is, many of the frames have large transparent sections in them. I'm guessing this how the original program saved some space in the GIF file - by using transparency in areas that don't change from the first few frames. Is this going to cause issues, and if so, is there a way to export all the frames as images with the full detail rather than looking like a series of cheese-graters?

3ds Max Animation :: Create Animated Sequence Stops

Jan 31, 2012

why the create animated sequence (Make Preview) will often times freeze and get stuck on one frame even though the time is progressing? Quite often when I create my previews, it will progress to a certain point and the frame won’t progress and it will continue to create the same frame over and over even though the time slider is progressing through the animation. I’m using Max 2011 and 2012 but this has happened in 2009 and 2010. To fix it I have to keep a close eye on the sequence images and stop the preview to restart it at the point it stopped.
