I'm an absolute beginner, and cannot find a simple pointer in GIMP. By simple pointer I mean an arrow to select an object, similar to the pointer in Inkscape. What am I missing?
View 7 RepliesUsing Civil 3D 2012, windows 7 pro 64, Radeon HD6970 video card.
The pointer flickers when in AutoCAD, especially when in menus, between the arrow and the arrow / waiting circle. Also does this flicker with the cross hairs and the waiting symbol when in the drawing window. Have all the drivers up to date no luck.
Have also tried multiple different pointing devices. Also have several instances where text will not move or allow to be modified until I save and restart the program.
In 3dsmax I want to:
(1)Open a .txt file containing some data:
E.g.
0,0,10,90,45
0,0,20,180,45
0,0,30,270,45
(2)Create arrow object at the XYZ coordinates pointing in the direction of the Heading Pitch values.
When I'm working in an image, and in other places, the cursor is a horizontal series of symbols rather than the pointer arrow I'm used to in PSE 6, 10 and 11. The left side of the symbols is where the cursor is at.
I don't know what this is about, and don't care. I want the pointer arrow I'm used to. I've looked in Preferences but see nothing that applies. How do I replace these hard to use and irritating horizontal symbols with the pointer arrow?
I'm running Adobe Photoshop 7.0 in Windows 7 Virtual XP mode, since the program won't run in Win7 64-bit mode. It used to run fine in 32-bit mode. It runs OK in the virtual XP mode, but I find that the circle tool in the painting or clone stamp functions always has an arrowhead in the center of the circle. It never used to, just the circle for painting or cloning. How do I get rid of it? Changing the settings in the Preferences menu does not work. Also, the virtual mode doesn't seem to allow updating program files, although it updates XP files. I tried to download a Photoshop update file. There was a prompt asking where it should go. But when I selected a place, and clicked OK, the Next button did not come on.

For example, say you were taking a screenshot while using the Pen tool in CorelDRAW. The cursor is a fountain pen tip. In the screen shot it shows as the default Windows arrow pointer. Another example, you take a screenshot in Photo-Paint while using the Paint tool and the cursor looks like the brush you are using, but the screen shot shows it as the arrow pointer.

I select custom shapes, then arrows, then I mouse-drag out the arrow, and, of course, they disappear when saved. So...now realizing that this is a path, I duplicate my first layer and place the arrows on the new layer. then I flatten. Still, arrows disappear.

Okay I have been a avid user of Photoshop for years and I mean well over 10 years now. And I thought why not try something new, plus I saw something that GIMP could do that Photoshop couldn't so I went ahead a downloaded the program, but since I am so used to Photoshop I sort of expected GIMP to be almost the same as Photoshop and well it isn't. (Don't judge me now) so I have a few questions on certain things.
1: How do you select an object inside the layer, with PS you can just ctrl click in the window and poof it's there around your selected item, But GIMP doesn't do that so how do you do that in GIMP?
2: When using the circle tool, I get this green box thing around the whatever it's called and I don't see any marching ants. What am I doing wrong and how do I get that to go away if it's possible?
3: where is the crop tool? What does it look like?
4: How come some of the options for the brushes won't allow you the change them? like for instance, if I go to windows>brushes and double click on any of the brushes another window pops open and it says: Brush editor read only. What does that mean? You can't make any of the brushes in spatter brushes?
How do you change the characteristic of the cursor from Hand (Move Tool) back to just being a pointer? This condition only exists in the Develope Module when my cursor is placed over the top of the photo. When I move it off the photo it returns to a pointer. In the Library Module it is always a pointer like I like it to be.

I am brand new and have tried to read up. At least I could find out how to get rid of the text selection box by choosing layer to image size, but no pointer appears.
Since i updated PS (CS6) the last time it has this very strange behavior when i try to position a object via the Arrow Keys.When i hit a Button very fast (3 times) the object jumps back to its very first position where i started to move it.

Transforms, vanishing point, lens corrections, all change the vertical spacings.
I don't know if the section I'm posting this question in is certainly correct but I just can't figure out one thing that "my" GIMP used to possess years ago, while I was using it for the first time. And which doesn't seem to occur anymore after some more releases.
Now, to the point:
I'm using a WACOM Bamboo tablet and -- I need to make my core pointer use decent brushing parameters than my tablet rubber and stylus. The effect I'm seeking is to enable using my mouse pointer as a rubber with increased brush size comparing to the thin brush I'm using while drawing with the tablet. The brush size seems to be the same regardless of which tool I'm using at a time, and it stinks, because if I could use them in a decent way, my work would be way enhanced. I just need to know how to make those two mediums behave adversely.
Whenever I try to pickwalk a hierarchy using the arrow keys I get the error: Cannot find procedure "EATPickWalker".
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am now trying Creative Cloud and I came with this bug. When I use a simple action to find and replace a text string in my file it will crash the Illustrator.
My actions is pretty simple:
Find > "aa" (I do have to check all the options to work)
Find and Replace > "aa" to "2014.01.29"
This action works well if I use it once by the Edit menu, but if I close the Illustrator and reopen, it'll not work again and will crash the software. Everyday I do update my action to actual date, so the action will work normally but sometimes I do have to close the app and I have to make the action again and again everytime.
This was a problem already in CS5, last version that I used. I'm using Windows 8.
When I select a tool, nothing happens...my cursor remains a useless white arrow! What is wrong??

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been using Corel Draw primarily in my work for more than 20 years but have never taken the time to understand this....nor why on some artwork an object will move fractionally but on other artwork (specifically this time, a 20m x 10m workspace for vehicle signage) the objects move 200 or 300mm!?
I always thought this was a 'drawing precision' setting but even when I set that to 1 decimal place it doesn't seem to affect this.
I'm creating a simple pink eraser by creating the outline with a spline to get the basic shape then extruded it. Now the edges are square/sharp. How do you get a radius on the sharp edges? I applied an "Edit Poly" modifier but it only allows for an edge chamfer and I need a smooth radius.
