AutoDesk Smoke :: How To Insert A Gap In All Tracks At Once

Feb 21, 2013

i have an edit. I got about 5 layers (text , mograph etc). Now if i go to the middle of my edit and i want just to insert a gap at my current position so it will push away any clips at any track to the right side away from my positioner. So i want to make a room to add more clip in the middle of my edit and i want it to ripple all clips in all tracks. I found that i can ripple only in current track.

I will normally select all clips located in the right side of my positioner (all track). then drag them to make a space (gap).

AutoDesk Smoke :: How To Get All Audio Tracks To Playback Together

Dec 27, 2012

I am editing in the timeline in Smoke 2013. I bring in a music track onto track 4. I bring in a interview clip on track 1. Only one or the other will playback and not together at the same time. I also notice on the audio tracks patch area a small square that when you place the cursor over and drag left or right I assume channels are being selected. What is this square box for and how do I get all my audio tracks to playback together?

I am using Panasonic P2 footage at 1920 x 1080. 29.97 NDF. I have brought them in through the media hub and created folders that correspond to each P2 card I stored on my Video Array. I am using a ProAvio Video Box with a RocketRAID 644 controller. What gives? Why am I not able to hear all the audio tracks during playback?

AutoDesk Smoke :: Why Can't See Video On Lower Tracks

Nov 8, 2013

I've got an issue seeing video on video track 1 when I have something on a track above it.  I have video on track 1, and above that I have a gap with a text fx placed on it (it's a lower third name key).  The track indicator is located on the track with the text fx (see the attached "timeline" shot), yet all I see is that key without seeing the video below it (see attached "canvas")  Everything has been rendered, so I don't understand what's wrong.  And when I export the timeline, the black remains.

AutoDesk Smoke :: Selecting / Splitting / Merging Audio Tracks?

Apr 19, 2011

In Smoke 2012 attempting to select two audio tracks for merging and/or splitting results in the message "two layers must be fully selected". I have the two layers are selected in the far left-hand-side of the timeline with the selection buttons. The manual is not specific either.

Conversely, selecting a stereo audio track and applying stereo 'stereo split' results in the message "At least one stereo track needs to be selected". Selection was performed, as above, with the far left-hand-side track selection box.

The point is that creating a 'new sequence' results in a single video track. When two mono audio tracks are created to accomodate the audio portion of the clips they have to be converted to stereo.

AutoDesk Smoke :: Auto Stretch A Clip On Insert Into The Timeline To The Selected Region?

Jun 13, 2012

This is based on prior work with Adobe Premiere and switching over to Smoke 2013...

since you were asking for feedback on the editor UI from Mac users...

a) is there a cut button that allows to cut a clip into two at the current marker positions? (e.g. to repeat certain elements)

b) is there an easy way to add extra frames at the beginning or the end of the clip by holding the first or last frame? (very important, but cannot find how to do this). Ideally this would just require dragging the beginning or end of the clip somehow...

c) There should be an easy option to add frames by extending the last or first frame in the case of transitions. Is there one? On Premiere, there's an option for this, makes it much faster to add transitions if there is limited movement in the source material

d) is there a way to auto stretch a clip on insert into the timeline to the selected region? time warp and frame-hold options (beginning, end, both)?

e) why is it not possible to drag clips back into the media hub on the left? (e.g. imported an AAF with a bunch of clips, now want to store some of the clips for later re-use in another timeline or part instead of having to keep it on the timeline)

f) the zooming into the timeline is cumbersome - is there a way to draw a rectangle to auto-zoom into that area? Premiere has a little scroller at the boom to select the zoom level. very useful.

g) for timeline zooming, could you support gestures on the MacBook touch pad? If you push two fingers apart, the timeline should horizontally zoom in. Two fingers together should allow to zoom out. This is actually not just for the timeline. We need this in all views in Connect FX, Action etc. Would make working so much quicker. And it's really standard Mac stuff. (Two fingers without pushing apart could enable panning? And/or space + mouse movement to pan?)

AutoDesk Smoke :: Selections In Smoke As In Combustion?

Jul 10, 2012

Does Smoke have selection functionality similar to that of Combustion? As an example, you might want to selectively blur part of an image. In Combustion, you would draw a selection and then apply an operator above the selection to achieve this. I don't see a similar selection tool function in Smoke, but I imagine you could achieve the same effect by duplicating a layer and using a Gmask via the Wipe timeline FX.does Smoke not have a selection tool similar to Combustion?

AutoDesk Smoke :: EXR Look Different On Import

But when I import the EXR in Fusion, export it back out, and then import that EXR into Smoke, it looks brighter, although I didn't change anything in Fusion. (when I compare the EXR from Smoke and the EXR from fusion in my finder on my desktop, they look exactly the same). So what is Smoke doing with the "foreign" exr on import?I was also playing with the LUT settings. I get a result which is close, but I need to be exact.

AutoDesk Smoke :: How To Import XML

I am having issues for a long time regarding importing XML into smoke 2013. Will try and explain you in breif.

First When we try an import XML into smoke it just doesnt do anything, in the message history box it comes up saying FOUND 0 SOURCES.

Nothing gets imported at all. No footage is imported, nothing is shown in timeline as well.

Second For a different project when the XML does get imported, the videos get imported but then again nothing is coming up in the timeline and in the message history box we get the following error.

XML Validation Failed.

Cannot process unliked media.

we have checked all the import options to make this work, including max up level and the rest but nothing is working.

AutoDesk Smoke :: How To Conform XML From FCP 7

Jun 7, 2012

I'm currently trying to conform an XML from FCP 7 into Smoke 2012 (Linux). The issue I have is that the files I want to conform with are MFX, however the files used in the FCP timeline are PRORES, therefore have a '.mov' extension. This means the Smoke is not seeing the MXF files due to the extension & the only way around it I have found, is to edit all of the '.mov' extensions to '.mxf' extensions in the actual XML. This works well, but is a complete nightmare, particularly as I'll have to do this for 13 half hour episodes!!!!

I have tried all the different combinations of Filename, Timecode, Tape, etc, but none work due to other metadata issues from the filming of the footage to it being delivered to our edit suites!!!!

Any way of making the Smoke ignore the file extension?
