View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm loving CS6 Illustrator, except for one thing. Image Trace. Here, Adobe seem to have taken away the two most usefull settings from Live Trace, and replaced all the presets with ones that are pretty much unusable. I almost always used either 'Comic Art' or 'Lettering' to trace hand-drawn images, but they're both gone. None of the new settings are good enough, even if I make a custom one. The main issue is that the sliders in Image Trace are for completely different things to those in Live Trace, so it's difficult to translate one set of settings into the other.
With Image Trace, I cannot get the same results as with Live Trace, and so far, have found myself having to have Illustrator CS5 open at the same time as CS6, just so I can get workable traces.
I don't know if it's possible, but is there any way to import the presets from Live Trace, or even the full tool, into CS6, to replace the new Image Trace presets?how to make the equivelant of Comic Art in Image Trace's new settings?This is a close up of a file I was trying to trace, showing the major difference in quality between the two CS versions.

Right: CS6 - This is a custom setting, but is the closest I have come to Comic Art thus far.
As you can see, the definition of Image Trace is far lower in quality than Live Trace, giving me one large connected blob of colour rather than the distictly separate lines produced in Live Trace.
Is there a way to import image files and then trace them so you have a .dwg file? I am using autocad LT 2012.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI learned Autocad on release 12 and then migrated to r14 and 2001. Nowadays most drafting is done with r14. However I want to be able to insert a .jpg into the drawing
environment and draw lines over it. Specifically, I want to take pictures of Christopher Dressers designs and bring them into Autocad and then trace over them. I feel I will get a huge education into architectural ornament as well as becoming more facile with lines.
I haven't kept up with Autocad's upgrades but undoubtedly the later releases have this functionality. Which one will work?
I am an archaeologist working with survey equipment and Map3D for a few years but now I have the following problem.
When I import the shapefiles created in my leica/topcon equipment into Map3D (mapimport) there is the possibility to select which attributes are going to be imported with an import profile file (.ipf).
How do I create the above and save it so that I do not have to go through the same process again?
I'm working on pdf image files, 300 dpi, and I want to use the Image Trace tool to vectorized these ones. The result has to be under 4 colors, and the file is a mozaic of photos calibrated 3mm x 3mm.
The purpose is to vectorize the whole image ( composed with approximately 800 photos )I did different tests with the settings of the Image Trace tool with samples of 12 x 12 mm ( 4 photos x 4 photos ) and the result is correct. But when I try to do the same with the entire image, the result is just horrible The entire image is sized 200 mm height and 130 mm width, but the import format is exactly the same than the samlpes I made my presets on.
I was thinking that Illustrator should act the same with the full image than with the small one, it just took more time to calculate the rendering, but apparently not.
I'm using C3D 2014. I created a pipe network, exported it to Hydraflow Storm Sewer, perfermed an analysis, and have HGL/flow data. When trying to import the .STM file, nothing happens. Here's what it does:
1) Import .STM into a Blank/New Drawing -> Creates a pipe network with correct IE, Size, and HGL/Flow Data
2) Import .STM into design drawing -> Choose to Update Network -> No change in network (IE, HGL, etc.)
3) Import .STM into design drawing -> Choose to Create a New Network -> Does not create a new network
I've tried closing C3D, and checking, still no change.
I am getting the following two errors when try to Mapimport either SDF or SHP files. Is there a setting I'm missing?

We are being pushed from some of our customers to supply BIM files for Revit.I was told by our software supplier that Inventor 2014 could create Revit files, and it looks as though I can via the BIM Tab on the Ribbon. I havent used Revit or created any BIM content before and I was hoping to open another manufactures file (*.RFA) in Inventor to disect the file and how to create our own files. I can only find an import option in the OPEN dialog box for a Revit Project File (*.rvt). Is it possable to open/import a RFA files in Inventor 2014?

Using the setting tabs of the prospector I go to Y drawing and click the plus and open the styles i want to insert into X drawing. So for example I open <General <Label Styles <Note Elevation and drag that style into my X drawing. I go and look at my X drawing <General <Label Styles <Note and see that Elevation is not there.
I have tried using AeccImportStylesAndSettings and also I'm running the sincpac which has an import civil styles function that does not work either. I went to a co-workers machine and he can get the styles import function to work just fine.
why I may not be able to get this to work? I even tried to create a new layout from template and still could not get beyond the styles that are default to my current drawing. My only option is to create the styles manually and that is, well, not an option.
how to use Live Trace in Illustrator but now instead of the Tracing Options window having a button that says "Trace" it's now showing a button that says "Set to Default." I'm sure something isn't selected right or something similar, but I can't figure it out. why "Trace" is no longer an option?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI just started using CS6, jumping from CS3. A major tool I use is Live Trace, and I have custom settings for that. I cannot find a way to make Image Trace behave the way Live Trace did for black and white line drawings. The results I get in CS6 are far inferior to those I got in CS3 in terms of retaining the look of the original raster image. Otherwise, I will have to leave CS3 installed just to do my Live Trace.
Here is a sample of what I mean. You can see the quality degredation in CS6 compared to CS3. (And it's much more obvious when it's full size and full resolution.)

I get this error, how can I determine what is wrong or how to fix? My assembly doesnt show any errors?

I have recently buy one software ( embroidery) , with the corel draw x5 essential.
- but I can not find the trace function to convert bitmap to vector , like power trace.
When I import the shape file I created to map3d I can select and import individual shape files. I can not however, select all. When I do this I get an eror code.

I have tried using the freeware converters such as Cad tools but have no way of opening the avx file, also tried Import Shape from ABC Autocad but have hit a wall there too. This made me wonder if its even possible in LT.
I managed to install the Import Shape program but it installs a bunch of files I don't think I am able to use. It gives me the following error when I run the SCR it installs. "Command: (defun LISP command is not available."

I want to import a photo, trace geometric shapes over the photo like circles and lines, and then remove the photo. I have a very basic understanding of LAYERS. I have viewed a few tutorials. But I don't know how to import a photo or how to get rid of it once I have drawn the geometric shapes over it.
1) I have a shape with four sides that i created using the pen tool by just plotting the four corners, i then gave this shape a 2px stroke.
2) I also have a very big picture of a landscape.
3) I want to put my four sided shape on top of the picture and cut the picture out to the size of my shape and then for the cut out piece to appear in my shape. ( So my shape is almost like a template).
I am attempting to import a shape file in Civil 3D 2014 and get an FDO error (see attached). I have performed this task nearly everyday for an entire year in 2012 with the same file, method, etc. I change my workspace to 'Planning and Analysis", select 'Map Import' and select my shape file...error!

I have tried various tools (including Shear, Free Transform, white arrow and arrow +, ...) but I cannot get it to go into that particular shape, though some have moved it towards the shape, but not exactly.
I thought this would be easy, just using the white arrow and selecting one corner point at a time, moving it to the place I want it to be.

after import all lines are on elevation 0
how can I filter all those with same elevation attribute, change them to an AutoCAd object (polyline) and have them moved up to the respective elevation which can be read out from the attribute table?
