Jan 24, 2013when i create a data link with excell, the data link contains pages of unused cells. how do i controll the data link and have it show only the cells desired.

AutoCad :: Link Mtext To Excel Cells?
Jan 3, 2013I had a bit of a search around the net and what I found mostly said it can't be done natively in AutoCad although I thought I might as well ask anyway.
I want to link individual mtext objects in AutoCad to cell contents in an Excel file (like a datalink for a table, but I can't use a table in this instance). Any thoughts?
If it is not possible it is not a huge deal although hopefully the design doesn't change in the future as it will be a pain to update all these manually

Oct 10, 2013We are a MEP firm, using AutoCAD 2011 and Excel 2007, and our project is a building with 1000+ rooms. Each room has specified supply and return airflows that need to show up in text in each of the rooms. All the airflow values are calculated in a spreadsheet.
My thought is to use fields in the text that shows up in each room, then link each field to a specific cell in Excel, because these values will be evolving over the next year.
AutoCAD LT :: Data Format In Cells
Nov 28, 2013I've created the attached table (used as legend in drawing, to point out revisions).
Cells in second column from the left are set as data dd/MM/yyyy, so when I change revision I write current data and it give correct format.
The problem is that every time I change layout and come back (or every time I open the drawing), data in empty cells were set to 01/01/1970...but I want them empty.
If I clean them, I clean also the data format.
AutoCad :: Merged Cells In Data Linked Tables
May 17, 2011Table styles / Data linked tables. In particular when re-syncing the table from excel, cells that should be merged become unmerged.
i have unchecked excel formatting, as i am using table styles used in autocad, i did try getting it to work starting with excel formatting, but couldn't get styles consistent, and text was much fainter.
As it is now the tables are working well except for the merged cells!
AutoCAD LT :: Data Link Manager Can't Delete Excel Link
Dec 26, 2011I'm messing around with tables and data links, practicing. I copied a range of cells in Excel, and did paste special to create a linked table.
Now I can delete the table object, but I cannot delete the link, cannot detach it.
When in Data Manager if I right click on the data link and click delete I get the error message "The data link is being used and cannot be deleted".
I have tried detaching, and the detach does not seem to take.
Now also, the table will not update from the source xls.
Win XP, AcadLT 2011, Office 2010. Using compatible setting for saving spreadsheet, for Office 2007 (not xlsx).
If I create a linked table by starting with the Table icon, choose "from a data link", choose the excel spreadsheet, etc., then I am able to later update the table from the spreadsheet, detach, delete the link, etc. But I can only delete the link if the table is not selected when I open the Data Link Manager.
But the one that was created following the directions from the Autocad video, with the copy, paste special, that link will not detach nor delete.

Aug 15, 2013I have been using a lisp routine to strip formatting from a linked excel sheet. (stripmtextV5) .When I try and run it on a sheet today it says some cells are locked. I've changed the cell format in the excel file to unlocked. I have unlocked the cells in the linked table. Yet it still says that some cells are locked...I have even picked in each cell to verify each one is unlocked.

AutoCAD Map 3D :: Transfer Link Data To Object Data?
Mar 28, 2013I have a drawing with Objects that have both Object Data and Linked data in an Access database. I need to get information from the linked table to a new linked table for each object.
I have thought that if I get the necessary information from the Linked table record to the object data for each object, I could then convert the Object data to a new link and am looking for a way to copy the data from a field in the Linked Table to the object data. There is at least one field common to both the OD and Linked Table record.
Is there any automated way to transfer this data?

Nov 1, 2012When trying to insert a table linked to an Excel 2010 file, it works up until row 28, however, as soon as I add a 29th row to the table it no longer inserts the table. When I try and insert it, I press ok and nothing happens. I tried inserting it as a smaller table and changing the data link to a bigger range after it was inserted, it just didn't update to a larger range.
Is there a way of getting this to work without having to insert it as two different tables?

AutoCAD 2010 :: Data Link Table Does Not Insert Into DWG
Nov 23, 2011I am trying to insert a table using a data link. I set up the Link through the DataLink manager and then insert the table using a range. I click OK to insert the table and after a few seconds of thinking ACAD sits there with no table on the screen. When I look in XREFs, the DL is there but says it is unrefrenced. Tried multiple ways of entering or setting up information to no avail.

Jan 7, 2013We recently tried to convert a RAW data file to FBK and the program aborted after running several setups. I have viewed the raw data on the data collector, but there appears to be no error. What other methods of conversion could I use to convert the RAW data file to a TXT file? I was hoping that our local AutoCad/Topcon dealer would be able to have a work-around, but they seemed stumped too. We have never encountered a problem usitlizing the Survey data Collection Link with any of our traverses prior to this time.

Apr 11, 2012I'm using the ribbon in 2012. I've got a drawing index sheet I want to update, and what I need to do to get to the Edit Data Link command is switch to the Classic interface and select the table in order to display the Table toolbar with Edit Data Link button.
I cannot find this anywhere on the ribbon, and the same button icon as Edit Data Link on the Table toolbar runs Data Link Manager from the Annotate tab, Tables panel on the ribbon, which is not what I want.
Where is this on the ribbon? And how come identical tool buttons run different commands in different workspaces?
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Referencing A Data-Link Profile
Sep 9, 2010When I try to reference an object in the Data Shortcuts menu, when I right-click the a profile in Prospector under Data Shortcuts, the option to "Create Reference..." is grayed out, and I am unable to reference that profile into the drawing I am working on. It works fine on other profiles that are being referenced from the same drawing.
I have tried:
1. Re-creating the alignment and profile data shortcut in the drawing being referenced
2. Creating a reference in my drawing to the alignment, which actually works. However, it still does not allow me to "create reference" for the profile.
3. Refreshing the data shortcuts.
4. Synchronizing the alignment referenced in the drawing.
Nothing seems to work. My only other option is to move the C3D profiles from the referenced drawing to the drawing I am working in. Is there a way to do this?

Nov 19, 2013I need to create a small table to ID the User, Computer name, Door Key, etc for a floor plan drawing of our office. I'd like to get this done in Excel and link it all so the bldg manager can make changes to the drawing without me. I have created the excel file and created a "name set" in excel for each room. In Autocad 2013 I have inserted a table from a data link and pointed that link to the named range of the room (the named range in excel is an 8 cel block with al the info I need repeated and uniquely named for each room.
This works great...so my next step is to create a block out of the table and make the DATA LINK a variable attribute...that's where I'm stuck. i cannot figure out how to do this. I would love to be able to INSERT BLOCK and have one attribute question...ROOM NUMBER?. That should look to the excel NAMED SET the corresponds and populate the table.
AutoCAD 2010 :: Data / Properties Link With Oracle And SQL
Jan 5, 2011I have been tasked with finding a way to link data from Oracle and SQL databases with CAD files of rooms in certain buildings. My goal is to be able to select an arbitrary room within a building and be able to access certain information. I don't actually have access to the databases yet, but I would like to know how to do this when I do. My data consists of "human" data such as: name, email, position, sex, etc; as wells as "physical" data such as: square footage of the room, who uses it, computer serial numbers, or what department is in charge of it. Using this data we will cross reference the tables to determine what our needs are.
My AutoCAD skills are good but I've never come across anything like this in the class room. Most of my knowledge is Civil based and more focused on design.

Dec 23, 2013I have made a data link to an excel file. Then I bring it in as a table. I then adjust the text height and remove all formatting from the table. Unfortunately, after closing and re-opening the file, the table changes. I lose formating/cell alignment/text height. It isn't even consistent across the table. The lost formatting is only on the 2nd split of the table, the first side retains the corrected formatting. I have selected the option to not update excel formatting. I don't even get a notification the table is updating. There haven't been any changes to the excel sheet either....

Sep 7, 2012Is there a way to turn off the Data Link Updates? I want it to be a maual process. Right now it tries to update the data links when I print. It asks if I want to skip but I have to do that everytime I print. Can I turn that off. If it updates it destroys the formatting of the table.

May 16, 2013I have some files (OK, 11,000 of them) and they have drawings on the bottom and text on the top. I want to erase this text and replace it with data that comes from a database. I don't know where to start.
I need to:
1. preferably find a way to erase the old data on the top, but I could do it manually
2. Insert data from specific fields into specific spots on the drawings.
3. Each drawing would have the same fields but different data corresponding to an account number. The account number is included in the name of the drawing and is a field in the database.
How to get started? I have Map3D as well, which I was told would work better than regular AutoCAD on this, but I also have regular AutoCAD. I can't even figure out how to make the database connection work.

I created a link to an Excel file to create a table. Before I ETransmit the AutoCAD file (along with many other files) I want to remove the link so that the table is embedded with no need for the external file. When I have somebody who doesn't have the linked file on their machine open the file they get a "missing external file" message" despite the fact that I ran the detach data link command and have purge selected in the ETransmit setup. The table shows up with the data, but I want to eliminate the nag pop up about the missing file. I know you can click the ignore button, but I don't want our customer to have to bother with it.
Any way to save a list of files for ETransmit like you do in a .dsd file for batch plotting?

Aug 2, 2013We use Survey Data Collection Link to convert our file formats, in this case it is a GPS job exported from a TSC2 using Trimble Survey Controller Version 12.46. I exported the job from the data collector as a .csv file then use SDCL to convert the .csv into a .fbk file. I am getting this error saying the file is invalid or in use. We ran into this problem a couple months ago and it disappeared after a couple days, and now it has resurfaced.
Running Autocad Civil 3d 2012 with Service Pack 2, Windows 7 64-bit OS.
AutoCAD 2010 :: Data Link Is Changing Table Style?
Mar 16, 2012I have created a table style in ACAD 2012 with all of the cells formatted to what I need. The trouble begins when I bring in a BIAS excel data link to populate the table. I have tried every option in the insert table steps and have even tried all the different options under the modify excel link options. I have toggled the use excel formatting on and off, which does change the table size a small bit, but does not allow the table style to take affect.
I have attached a screen shot of the "good" and "bad" tables. The bad table is what the good table comes in as and it is also what happens everytime the table link updates. It always reverts back to the bad style and then I have to change the table back to the good one by hand - changing each column individually.
Is there a way to attach a data link to a table with the table style holding its shape and formatting?
This happens on all of my drawings and using all kinds of different excel links.
