AutoCad :: Export Drawing To 3D DWF For Viewing
Jan 25, 2013
I often use "EXP"/"EXPORT" to export my drawing to a 3D .dwf for viewing in Naviswork Freedom as it's much easier to get in and pan about looking for routes etc.
Only trouble is, I have a main drawing with multiple floors/services/steelwork/etc, and I often try one thing, then move it to the side and try something else. All well and good, but exporting the whole building when I'm only interested in one little bit is really annoying and pretty time consuming at awkward bit where I'm changing and re-exporting every 5mins.
Is there a way to only export the current selection? The only methods I have found, both of which often cause more problems than solves, is to copy and paste what I do want into an new drawing, or delete everything that I don't, and export what's left. Trouble is when layers are locked, you have to go round unlocking, etc.....
There must be a better way?!

I produce a simple piece of HTML mailing for my clients to send as an e-mail blast. I typically create these, and they contain graphics and some direct hyperlinks with URL information embedded within a slice. I Export to Web and place the produced files on my FTP, get the link and I send out a blast e-mail. When I test this on my Mac (Mail) the piece looks perfect.
Some of my clients have replied that the output is desheveled. Indeed it does look that way. It looks as there are shifted or missing slices. I started to send out a blast test to all of my personal e-mai accounts, and I did get questionable results through G-mail and my web hosts own client. But the art looks great following the link to the FTP. All of th eembeded links work. I'm sure most of my clients are on Outlook and WIndows, so I don't know how to correct this.

I am having an issue seeing a 2line pipe drawn in MEP and viewing the drawing in AutoCAD vanilla. I can view the 2line pipe in it's original dwg file, but when I xref it into the base drawing the 2line pipe shows up as a 1line pipe in AutoCAD vanilla. I am using AutoCAD MEP AS AutoCAD which has all the enablers.

Being an architectural photographer I create a lot of layered files with many exposures with different lights on and daylight separately. I always save my layered files in a folder called Layered files in the project. I also save flattened 8 bit Tif's at full resolution for my client as a print file in a separate folder along with another folder for web and device optimized files. When my client opens some of my flattened files they tell me the only see one layer. When I open some of them in Preview I get the same result. I only see the last layer I put into my layered file. But when I open the same photo in Bridge I see the full flattened file as I saved it. What can I do about that?

I am having a strange issue with 1 of my drawings, it simply refuses to export to *.dgn. it wont give any error message what so ever, just when i go to file -> export -> put in the standard option and hit export nothing happens and returns to the drawing no dgn file is created.
I've tried older drawings of mine and those still work fine and export command does its job.

I've recently had an issue when attempting to export to PDF from a drawing in Inventor Professional 2013 64-bit. The completed pdf is missing random characters in the dimensions, title block, etc. I've attached an example of this issue, which is now affecting all of my new drawings (the boundaries on the attached PDF are a little wonky from where I redacted).
What's funny is that this began suddenly, I have been using "Export to PDF" to produce dozens of drawings since AI 2013 was released. The only thing different is that I'm using a custom title block (hard-coded, no parameters) instead of the default. The machine is Windows 7 64-bit.

I am trying to write an external iLogic rule that will export the unfolded model of a sheet metal part in a drawing from a rule triggered in the .idw. These drawings will contain only one model reference. The reason for doing this from the drawing are as follows:
1) The location of the resulting .stp file must be the same directory as the .idw file. our file structure does not co-locate these files so the drawing path is required to locate the .stp file.
2) The current Drawing Rev level is to appended to the .stp file name. We do not populate the Rev iProperty in the part.
I have scabbed together some code from verious deep dark corners on the internet and Have arrived at the code posted below, but It errors during the .stp file creation with the following:
Error Message:
Error in rule: STEP Export With Rev, in document: 4000401-02 Blank Pattern.idw

I customized a surface style to show relative elevations, with lighter tones representing higher elevations, and darker tones representing lower elevations. With a single glance, I know the high and low spots in my project area.
C3d provides several default surface elevation styles. None of them comes close to providing the instant, data-at-a-glance information that my customized style does, which I use to design stormwater systems. Again, it's really useful to see, with one look, where the high and low spots are in my project area.
I can't figure out how to export, transfer, copy, whatever, my customized style from one drawing to a new drawing. If I want to see my customized style, I have to recreate it from scratch in each and every drawing where I want to use it.
How to transfer a surface style from one drawing to another? By the way, I tried opening up both drawings, with both toolspace/settings windows open. Tried dragging and dropping the customized style to the new drawing. Didn't work.

I was wondering if there is a way to export or save an assembly drawing to .dwg format (that can be opened by cad or acad mechanical) in such a way that all the parts of the assembly are exported as individual blocks (within the same file) To explain- lets say I have a .i am out of which I create a drawing (.dwg for inventor). Then I export or save this as acad dwg. This acad dwg should have all parts of the assemblies as blocks so that if I want to work on a particular part in the 2d environment of acad, that is possible.

i have one big pipeline drawing and need to "split" it into smaller drawings..there are layers, v500, v250, v100 that represent size of pipeline.i'd like to extract all elements from layer v500 to drawing v500.dwg, after that v250... etc.
problem is that i would select only elements from v500, erase all other and than save it as v500.dwg... and then what? undo all and repeat everything with another layer?
is there a way to copy elements to another drawing and save and then return to original drawing and execute another set of commands?

in Inventor I use my own library with different layers, font types, colors, lineweights etc. In Inventor drawing it works well. But after exporting to DWG only colors of different layers stay the same; all fonts, lineweights change to one (maybe some kind of default) font, lineweight.
How could I repair that, I need drawing in DWG to look like the same as in Inventor. I have tried to use "Configuration" in DWG file exporting option and I have created my own configuration, but it did not work... I simply do not understand how it works. If the "Configuration" in DWG file exporting option is the clue -

I'm having real difficulties getting my drawing borders to work between Inventor and AutoCAD. I am using Product Design Suite 2012.
I have created a drawing border using Inventor, which is the template for any drawings I produce. I often export the Inventor drawings into AutoCAD 2007 dwg's to send to customers. However, it seems all the text goes up the creek after the export...
When I open the exported AutoCAD drawing, first I explode the drawing border. Then, if I scale the border from within AutoCAD, none of the text wants to scale up. - I've attached the border. I've tried several different ways to fix it using text styles, heights (setting to 0) etc and still no luck!
How to fix the text scaling?!

I have this file that won't open in AutoCAD Architecture 2012, well let me rephrase that, it won't finish opening. It has 4 or 5 xref's attached. I was able to open this same file using 2010. Through process of elimination I was able to determine that a file that was exported from Revit MEP 2012 was the problem. When that file was detached the drawing would open just fine. To make things more interesting, I am able to open the Revit Export file just fine using 2012. What diabolical combination of event has happened to cause this SNAFU.

My problem: I need to extract attributes from CAD files and export the data into MySQL type databases in order to compare the CAD data with other database data. Ideally the task needs to be done with a routine script that processes large sets of CAD files and data.
I would like to know: Can this be done?Whats the best way to script this or code this with an API? Is there a way to run this script on a server machine without AutoCAD installed? (Not that I'm trying to avoid using AutoCAD in general, of course the program was used to create the files, it just seems silly to install it on a server for one task)Is this script relatiavely simple, or would it require large amounts of time and/or an expert?

I've run into a small problem while trying to export a drawing from paper space as a PDF. The drawing is of an electrical panel for a product. The panel is rather large, but the drawing includes some smaller details, such as a vendor logo on a component or a few extra lines on the border of a display screen. We have a large, multi page PDF file that uses A4 paper size that I need to insert this drawing into, so the export must be at this size. When exporting, I have CAD set to use monochrome and ignore the line weights, which solved my initial problem that the parts would show up as solid black splotches.
Now that the back story is over, here's the problem. When I export the pdf, everything looks great except these small details around the components. For some reason, the lines in the components will shift to one side or the other, causing breaks between features. Most of these breaks occur between an arc endpoint and a line endpoint. The export also excludes some smaller bits of geometry.
