AutoCad :: Why Blocks Not Moving Layers

Nov 12, 2011

I have multiple copies of a block, and when I move one copy to a layer, it doesn't seem to actually move.

For example, if I have 2 copies of block A, and move one copy from layer "Inside" to layer "Outside", then hide layer "Outside", the block I just moved doesn't hide, but everything else on layer "Outside" does hide.

When I inspect the moved block, the properties say it's on layer "Outside". What is going on?

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Parameters Moving On Insert

Sep 1, 2011

I have a block containing a visibility parameter but the problem is when it is inserted, that visibility parameter is in a different place to where I put it in the block editor.

My geometry is around the 0,0 origin (which is also the base) and the visibility parameter was placed at 0,-25 in the block editor however once it is inserted in a drawing it shows up at 270,130.

No matter where I move it back to, it always reverts back to another position.  Every time I try to change and reinsert, I purge the drawing so I know it is not picking up on something else.

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Moving Attributes Automatically

Oct 17, 2012

I just have a quick question (hopefully) about an activity I want a Dynamic block to perform.

I have a simple electric switch block (a line with an S over it), that in some cases is enclosed by a simple rectangle. When the switch is enclosed, I'd like the attribute to move further, to keep the spacing the same.

Is there a way to make the attribute move automatically with the display of the rectangle, maybe through some combination of Linear Move parameters, Visibility parameters, and a formula?

AutoCAD 2013 :: Copying / Moving Dynamic Blocks

Jan 22, 2013

My company just upgraded to 2013 from 2012, and we are having problems copying and moving dynamic blocks.  As we try to re-insert the object(s) after using the copy or move command, they disappear from the screen.  If we save the drawing and restart AutoCAD, the objects are there where we inserted them, but we cannot figure out how to make the objects reappear without restarting the program (Undo does not work).

The objects in question are dynamic blocks created with AutoCAD Civil3D 2012.  We suspect this might have something to do with conflicts between the two different versions of AutoCAD but we're not sure.  There are 5 or 6 of us who have this problem.

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Polar Stretch Tick Marks Moving

Apr 4, 2012

The linear stretch works fine but changing the length affects the position of the tick marks of the polar stretch.  If I change the degrees to 0-360 then it's not a problem but I want to restrict to 285-345 deg.

I can't figure out how to move the base angle of the polar stretch with the linear stretch.

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: How To Keep One Stretched Point From Moving When Block Flips

Dec 27, 2012

In "test" mode, this block works well except for the point of the arrow. If you stretch the line under the title, then move the arrow point to somewhere else, then flip it, the arrow point and its associated grip needs to stay put.

It actually does, the first time. BUT then if you move the arrow point again and flip it again, it does not.

Then, when I inserted it into another drawing, either with "insert" or via SSM, the flip doesn't stick to the point even the first time.

So I guess my question is how to flip it but keep the point where it happens to be when the flip occurs. Like a multileader, because what I am actually trying to create here is a multileader that has an annotative block with attribute fields, to be used with SSM.

AutoCAD LT :: Moving Drawings And Layers Interchangeably

Jun 18, 2013

I have two .dwg files. One file has every layer that I could possible need on it. The other file is an existing file created in my office. So, I want to take an existing drawing that does not have a good layer naming system and move it into the file that does. I saw in another post that this can be done in the Design Center, however when I go to copy layers from the existing file to the destination file it won't let me. Does this make any sense?

AutoCad :: Importing Blocks Without All Layers?

Jul 3, 2012

I was wondering if there is a way to import a bunch of detail drawings into my template, without all the layers that go along with the details.

See, sometimes I need to use details from other companies within my drawings, and they have crazy annotations and a lot of different layers. It would be nice if I could import their details as one big block into my template that I like to work with when doing my work. Is there a way that I can import that details block (including its color codings and such, not changing anything) onto ONE LAYER. Otherwise is there a way to create like a folder within the layer manager that I can dump all those layers?

It's just such a mess once I drop their details into my work, it would be nice if I could isolate all that stuff, yet keep everything as it looks on their files..

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Same Block - Different Layers

Dec 6, 2012

I have a piece of machinery with a platform around it. Right now, I have it set up where, you bring in the block on a -proposed layer, and then you can change it to a -existing layer, and everything changes to that new layer's colors (elements on 0 and bylayer).

However, what I would like to have happen is, inside that same block, I would like for the platform to change from a different color to a different color when the machine does.

So... the entire block (machine + platform) is on a layer - machine-pro. I bring it in, and everything is blue (for proposed). When I switch it to the machine-existing layer, it changes to a dark blue. I know I can have the platform be red and the machine blue, but when I switch the machine over to the existing (dark blue) the platform would still be red (because its set as a "hard" color other than by layer).

Is there a way to make the platform turn to a dark red (existing) from the bright red (proposed) when the machine turns to a dark blue (existing) from bright blue (proposed), but it all be in one block?

AutoCad :: Switching Of Layers Including Blocks?

Oct 14, 2011

I'm doing very complex drawing of a heating plant on a big ware house site. So I'm using two kinds of layers. I don't know, weather I'm using everything how it is to use or not, because I learned everything by myself.

The first layers are my so called "line type layers": hidden line, center line, wall, border, ... So all the different types of lines I'm using, when is start my drawing. I block all lines, which belong to one part like screws, doors, pips, engines, .. And at the end I put my "part" blocks" on my "part layers", like deashing, ash bin, boiler, building, electrical.

So lets say I have the layer "deashing", which includes several blocks like "deashing screw", "deashing drive", "deashing screw 2", .. And each block consists of several lines, which are on the layers, like "hidden line", "center line" and "black thin line", ...

And now I want to switch of everything in my drawing, which belongs to the "deashing layer" to get a better overview. So I "turn off" the layer "deashing", but I can still see it in my drawing. It just disappears, when I freeze the layer, but it should disappear, when I "turn off" the layer, too, shouldn't it?

So I hope I didn't wrote to much, but I good explanation is worth everything. So why does it not disappear or do I use the layers in a wrong way.

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Assign Layers To Different Objects With A Block?

Apr 11, 2013

After all this time is there a way to assign layers to different objects with a block? Perhaps using Visibility states or Lookups?

As an example:

I have a dynamic block with a door swing and text. As I increase the size of the door the text changes to reflect door size. The objects are all on the 0 Layer. When I insert the block I can assign a 'Text A' Layer to the text and a 'Door A' layer to the door. So when I switch layer states around I will either see the door, the text or both. Then I move to the second floor which has been stacked on the first floor. I insert my DB and assign layers 'Text B' and 'Door B' respectively to the text and door.

Finally when I go to my layer states I either select 'First Floor' or 'Second Floor' and the respective blocks appear depending on the layer state.

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Choose Item Layers Within A Block

May 24, 2013

We have blocks of process valves. The valve body in layer "valve" and the ports in layer "pipe" The Lower port of the valve is for "fluid A", the upper port for "fluid B".

Now we want to dynamically choose the layers for both the lower port and (a different layer for) the upper port. Dynamically because the same valve can be used twice with completely different fluids / layers. Is there an attribute or dynamic parameter to do this?

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Moving Dynamic Block With Attributes

Dec 19, 2011

I made a dynamic block with attributes. The block was to be moved using Linear parameter + move action, and then a lookup parameter and action.

The block moves as it is suppose to but the attributes are left behind. How can I get the attributes to move with the dynamic block?

The attribute properties are:

Verify = Yes.

Lock position: Yes or No don't seem to make a difference.

Is this a bug in AutoCAD or is there a solution to this?

Photoshop :: CS5 - Moving Layers

Jun 10, 2012

In the past two weeks I've noticed a weird problem with my Photoshop CS5.  I'm on Windows 7 64-bit with CS5 version 12.0.4 X64.

Sometimes (not always) when I click a layer in the layer menu and try to move it with the move tool, it jumps to a different layer (not to the one I selected) and moves that one instead.  Now, this is only if I move it with my mouse.  If I move it with the keyboard, it works fine.

Also, if it starts doing this with a layer, it will continue to do it with that layer forevermore.  Even when I close the program and re-open it again.  Or if I save it as a diffeent filename.  If I duplicate the layer, it will do it on both the original layer I was having trouble with and the new copy of that layer.  I can also merge it down with a blank layer and it'll retain the problem in the new, merged layer.

It's annoying to have to move the affected layers with the arrow key.

I did find a mention of this problem on a mac, but the solution did not seem to apply to a PC.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Removing / Changing Line Layers Buried In Blocks

Mar 21, 2012

I’m currently working on getting a system for easier plant layout management.  Part of which is condensing what started as 195 mostly random layers into about 15 usable layers.

Problem:

I have about 28 more layers that need to get rid of and I can’t delete them because there are lines assigned to them. However, when I hide all the layers I need so that only the unnecessary layers are showing, there’s nothing there.

Side Note:

I know this problem is most likely because there were layers applied to features deep within blocks. I just don’t want to go through the 700+ block to check each layer assigned to each line.

(This file I was given to start with is a mess. Examples: Some of the blocks have the same exact feature that’s buried 7 blocks deep with no features added to justify an extra bock being there. Some of the blocks aren’t even being used in the layout. Name of the block has no coloration with the actual thing it represents. Stuff like that…)

Question:

Is there a way of hunting down these layers in the blocks to delete / change them without checking each individual block? Or is it possibly because the layer i need to get rid of is applied to a block that’s not being used in the layout?
