AutoCad :: Opening SKD Autosketch File
Apr 3, 2013
All our original drawings are all Autosketch drawings (.skd) format. I used to have the program on my old PC so I could open them and export them to dxf if we ever needed them. The IT dept gave me a new PC a while ago and I've just realized that they have not put Autosketch back on and I don't think they can find our copy of the software now.
So, how I can view or covert my SKD files to DWG or DXF or do we have to buy Autosketch again. That's if it's still available these days.

when trying to reopen a file from the "recently used" file list? When I try to click on a file from the list it gives me a message stating "error opening file". I know this will happen if the file has been moved to another location, but the files are in the same place as when I originally opened them. None of the files in the list will open anymore. Is this a pathing issue?

A fellow co-worker accidentally checked the box that says "don't open this file" (or something like that) that appears when a language file is missing upon opening a file from a client. He then also "accidentally" clicked the "perform this action every time" so as the warning window wouldn't appear any more. As a consequence there are now files that we cannot open on that computer. I've searched through system variable lists and come up empty handed.....

By Opening File into AutoCAD I can set the Custom Property(dwgname,dwgid,projectname) of the File. But I want to set value of these properties without opening AutoCAD application.
I can set it using:
public void SetAttributes(Hashtable hashTable,String fileOpenPath){
Document Doc = Autodesk.AutoCAD.ApplicationServices.Application.DocumentManager.Open(fileOpenPath);
Can we create this Object using any other way??
Database Db = Doc.Database;
DatabaseSummaryInfoBuilder DbSib = new DatabaseSummaryInfoBuilder();
Autodesk.AutoCAD.DatabaseServices.TransactionManager tm = Db.TransactionManager;
using (Transaction aTran = tm.StartTransaction())
[Code] .......

I used to be able to just open any image and my copyright info would be inserted into the file data. I guess it was a droplet, "when the file is opened or created then add file info from a xmp file". I still have the xmp file with all the data in but i am unsure how to implement it being automatically opened and added to the file when i create a new one? I thought i could handle it, i assume its a droplet of some sort.

Is there a way to edit a .dwg file (specifically I want to gather entities based on their layer and then change them to a different layer) without opening the AutoCAD?
I guess I'm looking for some sort of way to open the file without all the graphics. I just want to access and edit the data.
I have a large amount of files that need to be processed and it would just take forever. I was hoping there was some way to open the drawing in the background for the program to work with.

I seem to be the master at trying to open a file that is already open. Then of course I get the window that pops up and says it is already open, then I have to close that window and the one behind it just so I can go click a button to view the one I was originally after.
Is there a way to just set it that when you try to open a file that is already open that it would just allow that drawings to jump in front of the rest of the drawings open instead?

I installed AutoCAD 2013. I have done a few projects on it and everything worked fine. But today after getting a project part way completed I saved it and closed it, then moved on to something else. When I came back to it to work on it some more, it told me that it was in use and that I could only open it as a "Read Only".
It was not open by anything other CAD pragrams or anything. What is the problem here.The only way it seems I can work on it again is to do a reboot. I dont want to do this all the time.
why it is only telling me I can open it as "Read Only" when it is not opened by anything else. But it tells me it is in use by another program.

I noticed, that in X4 my file ( in which I'm working) is lost, if I open a new file from the organizer.
In older versions, I could have a lot of pictures on my screen and switch between them.
Is this a "bug" in X4, or is there a way to put this feature back like X2.
Hope the question is clear??

I've managed to get my VBA project messed up such that Inventor crashes when I try to load the project. The ivb file in question is attached.
Is there any way I can either open the .ivb file in some other more crash resistant program, how to get Inventor to not crash opening this file?

I am having problems in opening a drawing exchange file sent to me by a friend who is using TurboCad V1.1 In trying to open the file using AutoCad 2000 I am getting the following error message "Invalid or incompatible DXF input - Drawing discarded".
I thought that the whole point of a dxf file was that it could be universally recognized from one system to another.

I have AutoCAD Civil 2013 and AutoCAD 2010 installed on my Windows 7 system.
Whenever I double click on a *.dwg file Windows starts up Civil instead of AutoCAD 2010 to open the file. Even if I already have AutoCAD 2010 running.
I went into the Control Panel Associations and attempted to Associate a file type with a specific program. When I pcik the *.dwg file extension the only option that Windows gives me is "AutoCAD Application". I even browsed to the AutoCAD 2010 directory and manually chose acad.exe but Windows just defaulted back to "AutoCAD Application".

The user has Autocad 2014 64 bit Service Pack 1 running over Windows 7 Pro. Everything is working fine until she receives .dwg files from a supplier that uses Autocad 2010. When she opens those files, the screen is empty, no crash/freeze, no error message, just a black background. The other opened files are still there in the background.
The only way she can open the file is by asking a colleague, also running Autocad 2010, to open the file and convert it using the WBLOCK command. After the conversion the Autocad 2014 user can open the file without issues.

I just became a part of the Student Community here, and downloaded Inventor Pro. I actually had some problems right off the bat: some kb971153 file was missing, so I had to find a hotfix from MS and install it before it would let me install Inventor.
Anyway, I opened up Inventor, and found that within seconds of loading up a new .ipt file, my computer would freeze. I can confirm that ctrl+alt+del, mashing several other buttons in frustration, and thinking of creative ways to use four-letter words to describe the situation don't work. As far as I can tell, .dwg files work just fine, it's just the .ipt ones that are kick my blood pressure up a notch.
If I remember correctly, the hotfix had to do with individual licensing or something, so it shouldn't be the cause right? Everything else on the computer works just fine; if I downloaded the wrong fix or something, I figure I'd see some problems with the computer overall. So I'm lost. Maybe it has to do with the stuff the .ipt file is trying to load or access but, either way, it's causing me to have to turn my computer via power button, something I'd rather avoid.

we have problem opening read only files with Autocad 2012, 2013 from Sharepoint library. When user opening dwg file directly from Sharepoint library (with Share point webdav, from Explorer for example) to which he have only read only access, Autocad gives error
„Drawing file is not valid“. The same result for UNC path (\intranetprojekceRizeniProjektu64ArchivProjektu102575) or mapped drive.
When he use Autocad open dialog to find the file in Share point library and use „Open Read Only“ from dropdown, file is opened fine.
Also if user have write access rights to library (when I add him rights for writing for this library), autocad works fine.
We need opening files directly in Sharepoint library (not to download them to users computer) cause DWG files have attached another DWG files from library as XREFs.
May be the problem could be caused by DWL files, which cannot be created in read only library, whilst autocad didn’t recognized the library is read only. But we didn’t find how to disable DWL files in autovcad 2012 or higher.

I am having an issue opening a SolidWorks file in Inventor. The file is a native SolidWorks .sldprt file. This is the procedure I followed: File-Open in Inventor, changed file type to SolidWorks Files and selected the file on my computer to be opened. I then recieve an HTML error message stating "Error - Translation failed. This version is not supported." I am currently using Inventor 2013. I received the file from one of our sister companies and we were hoping to be able to exchange native files easily using Inventors built in translator.
Any translator or add-in that would work to open files of this type.

Right now I'm working on a program that will go into a directory and it's subdirectories, collect a list of all the .dwg files in those directories, then apply certain changes to all of those .dwg files.
My problem is that none of these things works.
(command "open" (srtcat basedir (nth i file)))
(command "open" (nth i fullfile))
(vl-cmdf "open" (strcat basedir (nth i file)))
(vl-cmdf "open" (nth i fullfile))
Where "basedir" is the main directory (e.g. C:/...), file is the list of the dwg file names (e.g. mydrawing.dwg), fullfile is the list of the ull paths (e.g. C:/.../mydrawing.dwg)
I have tried using the filename with and without the .dwg extension with no luck.
I have this code set in (while ...) so that it will go through all the files in the list "file" or "fullfile" in sequence. The lisp will run without errors but will not open any of the files. When I look at the command line, I see that the lisp has put open on the command line like it has executed the command, but right below that, it says "Unkown command: C:/.../mydrawing.dwg" or "Unkown command: dwg" depending on which of the above code pieces I'm using.

Convert a GPS file (.ssf)? I am attempting to do this by converting the .ssf file, which contains GPS data point information into a DXF file. Then from the DXF file, I tried opening in AutoCadd Lt 2007, but nothing shows up on my screen. There are no layers turned on, frozen and I did a zoom extents, but its as if there is nothing in the file???
I was thinking that maybe I should try converting the .ssf GPS file into a DXF and then placing it into an DGN file.

We are currently using Inventor 2013 without Vault and I discovered that multiple users can open the same IPT file at the same time with no warning message or read only access like we get in Autocad. We have 6 designers all using the same Project that is a single user project. We normally don't have more than no person working on the same part or assembly, but it did happen. Two designers opened the same file to make separate changes not knowing that the other was in the file. Not until one of them went to save the file did he know someone else was also in the file. When he went to save the file he then got a warning - "A later version of this file has been saved by (user). Saving the file would overwrite changes, which is not allowed. If you wish to preserve your changes, use the Save Copy As command." In Autocad if you try to open a file that someone else has open you get the warning right away and are forced to open it read only or not at all. Is there a way to set Inventor to do the same thing? Other than using Vault and having to checkin/checkout every file. Our six designers work on an average of 50+ parts per week and many times have multiple files open at the same time to use as reference. Also the shop floor opens our files to use for programming and asking them to checkin/checkout files would not be received well. The shop floor has "read only" rights as determined by our network. Does our network settings determine if more than one person can open the same file?
