I've been away from AutoCAD for about 10 years and just getting back into it with AutoCAD2012
I want to modify my default start up drawing. ie. Change my units, grid off, text and dimscale, zoom out, etc.
I have no problem doing all that but don't know how or where to save it so it becomes my default start up drawing.
I want to start AutoCAD LT without the empty drawing. Just AutoCAD and the welcome screen. How can i do that? I always close the first drawing and begin a new one by choosing out of several templates or start with an existing drawing, rename and modify it. For NEW or OPEN i like to use the welcome screen.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am fed up with constantly changing the colour, justification, font and font size of text in sketches in the part environment. The text style drop down box is greyed out in the part environment so i can't set up a style and just change it.
Where i need to go to change what the default-iso style defaults to? Any registry key change i can use to make the test style drop down box available in the part sketch environment?
When you create a new Frame Generator assembly, you have a dialog box with Frame name, Path to frame file, Skeleton name, path to skeleton file. Inventor propose default values. Is there a way to automatically modify these default values ? For example, instead Inventor propose "New Frame file name = Frame0001.iam", I want a custom calculated file name.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble with a locked xref. I would like to unlock it so that I can modify for my mechanical drawing. The architectural drawing is provided in xref form from the architect and he has not left it open.
Is there a simple way I can unlock it so that I can modify it without going back to the arch?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to put together a lisp routine for exporting a Civil3D drawing to basic autocad entities and convert it to a clients layer standards.
I don't want any user input, so I see two problems with the routine at the moment.
Step 2. SAVEAS - I want the drawing to be saved in the same directory as the current drawing, either called "CLIENT_export.dwg" or preferably "Export_{current drawing name}.dwg". If the dwg exists I want it either to overwrite or increment a suffix number.
Step 4. At the moment it askes the user for a selection, I want it to select "ALL"

I don't have any experience with LISP or any other programming. I have just been cobbling this together from bits and pieces I have found on the web.
When using mtext and a background mask and try to modify the border offset factor from the default of 1.5 , the factor reverts back to 1.0. If I type in 1.25 or 1.75, it will not save it and revert to 1.0. If I put in a larger number like 2.0 or 3.0, that factor will be retained.

How can I start up AutoCAD and not have a blank drawing show up?
I work the majority of the time with existing drawings and I am tired of closing Drawing1.dwg every time.
I looked for a command line switch for the shortcut icon, but, no joy.
I am using Gimp version 2.6..At the start-up it has the "Paintbrush Tool." I want it to have the "Move Tool" immediately after or when the program starts.
Having the Paintbrush Tool at start-up is inconvenient because if I click on the image it paints where I click. Then I have then got to undo the paint.How can I set GIMP so that the Move Tool is the default mode when it starts?
I found a strange behavior of AutoCAD. When I was modifying a drawing and adding dimension annotation, there suddenly come some small circles as highlighted in yellow in the screenshot.

First, there is no way I can't select them.
Second, zooming doesn’t change their size.
What these small circles are? How to get rid of them?
Is there a way I can set this with a switch appended to the "...gimp.exe" shortcut? Or any way that I can set it at all?

Is there a way to modify the DEFAULT SCALE LIST to show a metric scale list in an imperial template? I mean, I start a drawing using the imperial template, but i want to use the standard metric scales on paper space. on previous versions the scale list shown both imperial & metric. I already tried several fixes like:
1. reinstall all redist(x64 & x86).
2. reinstall .Net 4.0
3. Use CCleaner for Registry error.
4. chckdsk for error and fix.still error so I've gone through this.
5. I uninstall Autocad 2014 completely, uninstall it manually one by one,deleted left over folder of autodesk or similar software to it, deleted its registry keys.just like the instruction on how to remove autocad completely in autodesk, I just followed it all. [after Reboot]

Is there a way to see or determine the start and end point of a drawing path? I'm exporting a CorelDraw file as a .plt file to a plotter/cutter and the manufacturer of the plotter/cutter saws the start point of the cut is determined in CorelDraw.
I want to be able regulate where the cutter starts cutting the material and where it stops at the end of the cut path.
Is there a way (IV2012) to have the drawing view default to 1:1 when inserting a detail into the sheet? Now it tries to select a scale based on who knows what.

I work with a land surveying package. I use both AutoCAD 2006 and R14. When I export a cad dwg from the survey software and open it in R14 my drawing units are as I want them E.G Direction Control = North = 270 and should be set to clockwise. If I open the same exported drawing but in 2006 the settings change. If I create a new drawing in 2006, the settings are as I want them.
