The drawings I'm receiving from the architects are all set to the world coordinate system. So when it comes to setting out they coordinates are useless to me. So what I want to know is how can I rotate my drawing so it's aligned to my local grid?

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy father in law is a civil engineer but works everything out on paper. I'm convinced there is a better way (using autocad). I'm competent with computers but never used autocad in my life and I'm not a civil engineer.Before starting setting out on site, he is given the proposed layout, based on 'National Grid Co-ordinates' (in the UK).
Currently he's working on a carpark which is a nice grid but on a different axis to the national grid coords. To make things easier, he picks a coordinate and labels it Easting 100.000 & Northing 100.000. From there he converts the coordinates given to values relative to this 100,100 coordinate. He does this on paper.
Could this be done using AutoCad (2011)?
My (previously wonderful) local adjustment brush has apparently quit working. Whenever I attempt to make local adjustments - using either the standard presets or custom settings - all the adjustments made are applied to the entire image, not just locally. Density and flow are set to my typical values and Show Selected Mask Overlay shows the extent of the applied effect, but whatever adjustment I make is applied generally, over the entire photo, rather than to the selected adjustment area.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a user and when he's in sketch mode he trys to draw a line but it keeps on snapping to a grid. Both snap and grid setting are switched off. I can't find any settings he has different from my own set-up so I'm finding it hard to fox this problem. FYI, this user is a bit of a problem and tends to change settings without even realising he's doing it.
He's using Inventor 2012.
Understanding that composite volumes are typically more accurate, I have a reason to evaluate the volume between two surfaces via a grid volume. Easily created a grid volume surface using a 50' grid (50' is large for this site, but wanted to get a feel for calculation time).
Question: Can you change the grid size without creating a new grid surface? Ultimately I woud like to explore the difference in volumes based on grid sizing without creating a long list of surfaces. One would expect that you could chage the grid spacing in surface properties, but the values are non-editable.
I was working on some isometric drawings for my CAD class and I can't seem to figure out how to get the grid back to the standard 2D grid view that I used to get when opening CAD. I now jusr get this dotted grid every time:

Revit has a propensity to locate a lay-in ceiling grid with a grid intersection in the center of the room. You can use the alignment tool to align the grid with a wall. But I see no way to center a tile in a room. This is often a necessity in a narrow room, to keep the lights centered. Also, installers, when not given specific instructions to the contrary, will often locate the ceiling grid to minimize narrow tiles at the wall. We need more control over the position of the grid.

I tried using the shear tool to do it but it is a bit tricky getting it just right. There must be an easier way to do it within the perspective tool grid.
When I type the word and align it to the bottom grid, how do I rotate it whilst still being aligned in perspective on the bottom grid?If I try and rotate the word using the selection tool it rotates off axis so it is no longer laying flat on the bottom grid.
Words placed on the bottom grid always read from the left vanishing point - I want the word to read from the right vanishing point so it aligns with my word on the right grid wall.
I'm looking for an option to adjust the grid size and to snap-to-grid.
For some purposes, you can find a way around this, but it is a pain when working on a project that requires perfect precision.
The topic has been brought up before, but I'm hoping to hear of any news on the possibility of implementing it. I don't assume there has been made any plugins to cater this need since earlier posts on the matter, so I'm hoping to persuade developers to implement the feature in a new version of paint.net instead.
If you need to know more specifically what I'm looking for, then it's basically what you have in Adobe Illustrator or any decent 3D modelling software you will ever come across. It would work pretty much exactly like the grid already in place, except you would not be limited to working only with individual pixels, but rather groups of pixels as you zoom further out. The grid would preferably have thicker lines every 5, 10 or 15 lines, etc. for user to position the various elements.
I'm using Paint.NET 3.5.8 on Windows 7 SP1 64-bit.
While editing small (16 x 16) images, I noticed that Paint.NET used a grid with a width of 2 pixels. Selection rectangles snap to this grid, as do paste operations.
How can I specify the grid width or disable this snap to grid effect altogether?
want to translate my vector illustrations to charts for cross stitch kits. Using the grid tool, but the lines aren't equally spaced? I have a 100cm x 100cm document at the moment, with 1 cm making a 'stitch'. I want a grid that is 100cm x 100cm, made up of 1cm x 1cm squares for simplicity. Then be able to print the design out on the grid.

So, I want to use a grid that I can fill in the individual sections of to create this image, and then remove the grid afterwards when I finish, or at least make it completely invisible.
Is there anyway to accomplish that?
I made a significant change to an assembly that messed up several constraints. I fixed all the constraints using the red cross button but the local update button is still lit up and won't do anything when I click it.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an interior laid out on a scaled grid, and I want to print a copy that displays the grid (ie: visible on the printed page). But everything (& I mean everything) indicates that grids per definition NEVER print.
I also thought that I could create my own grid on a separate layer, but if that's an option, I can't find that either...
I was thinking of something like photoshop can do. Have like a 32x32 pixel grid, then within that 32x32 square a 1x1 pixel grid show up? Of course a different lin maybe dotted?
View 14 Replies View RelatedIt started happening whenever I try to "create a new local surveydata base" in Civil 3d. After clicking OK the folder for the database gets created, but does not show up in the toolspace window. It does show up in windows explorer in the place which I had specified on the pc. I have just installed Civil3d 2014 on my pc and I still have Civil 3d 2012 on it as well. I get the same problem from each version.

I am tryiing to "purge" a local appearance in a part. From the tools>Appearance, I want to delete the Knurled (Coarse), but the delete is greyed out.
I cleared the appearance overrides, but it is still greyed out. Here is a short video of what I have tried.
The reason I am going thru this excersice it to remove the knurl.bmp that shows up in by vault browser... watch the end of the video.
Is there any way to save a plot style to my local disk?
I've got 13 pages in my cad file, and rather than convert each to pdf by using print, im trying to use publish.
When I attempt to publish, my plot style doesn't appear, but the option to import does.
The only way to do FEA analysis is through Autodesk's cloud server, the problem is my company's firewalls will not allow us to store, connect, or use cloud's or any server but ours. So I wondering if there is a option or setting that I can change and do all the computing locally on my machine.

Basically I do have a list of parts (wall panels different sizes etc...) I was going to create an iLogic form with drop downs, so engineer can choose wall panel assemblies he needs and qty`s. iLogic will pull these assemblies from the vault/HDD in to the existing assembly. Currently we have to go to so many different folders to pick them up.
I am using Autocad 2008. I lost all my icons when opened a drawing after disconnected my workstation off my domain network and trying to use it locally in my local drive.
in order words, How can I copy my network/server profile into my local drive so that I can run Autocad from my local drive ?(My Autocad Software is loaded in my local drive).
What I have is northing/easting survey data starting at an arbitrary point. The rest of the points are measured from that.
I do know the global coordinate of the base point, but no other points.
My question is how can I take all of the points and create gloabl coordinates out of them. I assume this is possible because I know the global coordiane of our reference point, I just have no clue how to do it in CAD.
Have a problem of users using files in their local workspace instead of getting the latest files from Vault?
This is an Inventor question because my next step will be to develop an Inventor addin which deletes files from a user's local workspace when they check the files in.

One of our domain users cannot access Autocad 2007LT as a domasin user in Windows 7. As soon as we make him temporary admin it allows him to use it. A pop up box appears asking far administration credentials before he can use autocad. We have tried giving read and write access to the autocad files that we think it links to but this has not worked.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I implemented Inventor Pro 2013 I added all our custom materials to the Inventor Material Library. This library is not local but on a shared network drive that everyone in my company can access.You can clearly see that it is not locked and is write enabled. I dragged the local material to the library and I shows up in the library. When I close and exit Inventor and re-open, it is no longer available.
You can clearly see by my screen capture that the new material was added to the library. Why isn't is updating the library?
I have managed our Inventor styles and libraries for Inventor since 2003 (R5) and I never had as much problems getting my mind to wrap around this new appearances change that Autodesk has made. I have wasted 4 hours this morning trying to add a simple custom material to my library and I cannot.
Whenever anyone at the company tries to open a model that has a decal part in it, the File Edit window comes up asking if the person wants to check out the part. As decals generally never change after they are created, they are never desired to be checked out. After saying no to check out, the window then reappears stating that the local is never than the vault, even though you just finished a Get operation. Is there anyway to keep these files from needed constant updating?

Some these users who have read access only are having difficulties opening the files in autocad LT 2012 because .dwl and .dwl2 files trying to be created on the sharepoint site. Is there a way to redirect these files to their locally to their computer? I would like to avoid giving the users write permissions to the site.
