I was wable to write some code that makes some already drawn objects on autocad into a selection set. What I need to do next is copy the selected objects and move them over like a distance of 50 to the right.

When I download a drawing from some suppliers I find that I cannot do a "copy with base point" and paste that copy into my drawing except using "paste special" which leaves me with an unmanageable image. The source drawing has all the normal (it seems) attributes of a .dwg file and can be edited as a normal drawing; it just refuses to be "pasted" into my drawing. What am I missing here!

I use the command UCS, Object, Select my base point and measure from there rather than cluttering measurement lines; however, without using UCS, Previous when ever i copy and paste the base point for the copy paste is off.. yes i can reset just wondering why it does this.

I go to insert block is there but does not show in the drawing. Then tried to purge it and it does not let me because it is in the drawing but I can find it any where. Then I tried to do the insert block look for the block and inserted as a block and the same result.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm a longtime Photoshop user in the process of switching to Gimp. I've successfully used Gimp for very simple things like brightness/contrast, color adjustment, and sharpening of single-layer images. What I'm trying to do now involves creating a copy of the background and placing it next to the background image, and I can't figure out how to make it work.
Here's what I'm doing:
1. Resize the canvas to twice the width of the original image, leaving the original image at left. This creates a "blank" area to the right which displays as a checkerboard pattern.
2. The area of the original image is already selected (i.e., it already has a frame around it), so I copy and paste it. This creates a floating selection, duly noted in the list of layers.
3. But when I try to move the floating selection to position it to the right of the original image, in the blank area, it appears to disappear behind the checkerboard pattern.
I just got Gimp 2.8 for Mac. I can open a picture, do a blur and export. The copy paste is giving me problems. It worked once. I make a selection with the rectangle and do a control c. I also tried the menu. The selection doesn't go to the clipboard. After 6 tries, the same original copy was the only one in there.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI transfer my adjustments from lightroom to photoshop for additional editing. The adjustments show in the new Photoshop file. However, when I make a selection from that file and copy and paste it into a different Ps file, it does not show the adjustments. I even tryed saving the adjusted photoshop file as a jpeg and then opening it up and reselecting what I want.....Copy and paste it.....and the adjustments still don't appear on the different Ps file/photo. How can I keep the adjustments made in lightroom as a selection to copy and paste to a new file?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to draw a plan of my house in Autocad 2009 but I seem to be endlessly using trim and extend because I can't easily select the points that I want with osnap. Eg. imagine I have a box, and I want to start drawing another box inside it that has each side as 10 units smaller than the corresponding side on the outer box.
Step 1 - I draw a small line from the top left corner of the big box using the endpoint snap, typing in "5" for the length.
Step 2 - I then do the same at right angles to the first line to get me to the starting point of the inner box. This always leaves me with 2 small lines to remember to delete.
Step 3 - Then in order to draw the top line of the inner box I end up drawing to a random length because I can't say "draw until 5 units away from the right hand side of the big box", then I end up trimming it later once I've repeated steps 1,2 and 3 for the next side of the inner box.
I know in my example above I could have scaled the box down or something but that's not what I'm getting at. I really want a way of selecting line start and end points that are a known position away from an existing point.
I want to copy one image and paste it into a selection (masked) of another image. I have the option to paste into which works but would like to be able to paste in Place as I believe this makes it a smart object and references the original file.

I wrote a code creating a polyline between the lowest and the highest initial polyline and obtaining the intersection. But when it comes to many points the rendering is quite time consuming.
I have located steel beams of an existing building roof frame. I am being asked to provide a distance from the theoretical roof to these points. The roof is sloped and I can create the sloped roof plane but I am unsure how to get the distance from the point to perpendicular to the theoretical roof slope, not the difference in elevation. Also would it be possible to label or make a table?
I am using Autocad 2013.
I read all of the posts I could on point gaps and know how to make the leader reach for the center of the point. What I want is for the leader to actually attach to the block of the style I have created. Is this possible, or do I need to find a new way to label of these points so that the leader touches the block. Also I noticed the gap is not consistent from point to point.

How Can i Get the distance between two base point of any two block in any UCS and WCS
View 3 Replies View RelatedRight after one makes a selection, say by using the Rectangle SelectTool, is presented with handles that allow altering the selection.
If one then selects another tool without deselecting is being deprivedof these handles while the selection remains active thus rendering himunable to alter the selection in that fashion.
Thus forming my question: is there a way to make these handles to(re-)appear on a non-freshly created selection?
I have a 3D file (not of my creation) that gives me some problems when I try to copy it (it is a 3D building).
The problem is that, when i click on "copy" command, I can select a point but then AutoCAD crashes and it takes about 30 seconds to return working a normal way and permit me to paste it. (it happens with "move" command too)
Otherwise, if I use "copy with base point" I have no problems: after a second I can paste it where I want.
How can it be possible? Cause if sometimes I mistake and digit "copy", I always have to wait the long Autocad response.
This problem happens with both autocad 2012 and 2013 and it doesn't happen with other 3D files I have. The drawing is made mainly of meshes.
I have a Dell notebook and a NVIDIA Quadro 2000M video card, so you can understand I don't like this problems: I spent a lot of money for something I hoped could work well with AutoCAD.
About that, aren't there drivers for the graphic card? Cause when I click on "check for updates", autocad says me that there are newer version of the driver, but then it says me that it is impossible to update it (I have a connession and a student version).
I use point filters allot when measuring distances. I noticed today using Full CAD 2010 that when i measured a distance (Say 2m) using a "Y" point filter, between two objects not directly below one another the answer i got was wrong. It seemed to give me the distance of where my crosshairs where at the time of finishing the command.
I have tried this on another full system of CAD 2010 and a light version. Problem occurs on all.
I know that if you just measure between the points CAD will give you the (-Y) answer in the command line, but using point filters is an old habbit hard to kick.
I was asked to lable survey data with the (2D) distance between the design surface and the survey points of the finished ground.

I have autocad lt 2009, previously when I wanted to trace a drawing I would go to paint, copy the drawing and then paste it in autocad on one layer and do the drawing on another layer worked great, But now when I do the same process it doesn't work.....previously I could draw on the image, could edit the lines, copy, erase, move etc. But now when do this if I have to copy a line I select copy and when I click on the line I want to copy the jpg drawing goes away, or if I try to erase a line the drawing will get deleted, Do I need to uninstall autocad and reinstall?

I am having trouble copying out of a drawing (model space) which i received from someone else, and pasting into my own. The properties on the original dwg file suggest it was created Sept 2001. It appears to copy OK (copyclip/copybase), but when i jump into my file and try to paste, the command line just reads:
_pasteclip
and nothing appears in my model space.
I've tried zooming extents, exploding the original, changing layers and line types etc into the same as in my own dwg. I've also tried to convert/save the dwg file into dxf's and other version dwg's....without success.
I have about half a dozen drawings received from the same source, and they all let you copy data into them, but won't let you copy/cut out.
