AutoCAD Map 3D :: Testing Topology Between Two Different Features
Mar 7, 2011
I am trying to detect overlaps between two different features. They are, at the core, shape files from a GIS system and we have AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009.
I have reviewed the steps to test for Topo within a feature but don't know how to test topo between two features. I need to test for and identify "Overlaps" between feature A and Feature B and when Feature A is "Not Entirely Within" Feature B.
In AutoCAD 2008 vba, how can I test if the active UCS is the WCS? ThisDrawing.activeUCS will have a null value ID and using IsNull to test for it won't work. Heaven forbid the developers return the world, if the WCS is active.
In inventor 2013 simulation what is the way to test a fabrication for counter balanced weight stability?
If you see the enclosed rough assembly. I have been playing with variouse stuff and not getting the results i want.
The idea is to work out how much weight the arm will hold without tipping over. and then by increasing the base size and weight or arm length i can then work out the ultimate design for my needs.
The way i want it to work is so that the base is just sitting on the floor as in real life with gravity and weight keeping it there and then as i apply weight to the arm see the tipping or load effect.
This upload is simple and i constrained the base via an axis on the edge put as soon as i run the symulation it just tips over and it shouldnt?
I have tried many other things but get a variety of results like the base suddenly flying off and a thousand miles an hout due to the contacts used ?
If i want to see how stable a design is before it tips over after adding counter balanced weights etc. How would i set this up in dynamic simulation?
what i want to do is to mess about by distributing weights at key points to see how the model behaves / how stable it is, and i want to test it until it falls over, this will enable me to test it to it's limits.
I assume i need to place the design on a surface / floor with gravity on and set to the floor. it must be free standing initially.
the item needs to sit on the floor but must not be held back by any constraints so what contact do i use, would it be a spatial contact between the floor and the base component?
I have two set of points with O.D. attached (points_1:data_1 and points_2:data_2). I want each point of the first set get the O.D. of the NEAREST point of the second set. Something like "point overlay". The problem is that AutoCAD Map can't overlay point topologies, and that makes sense, since entities don' t actually overlap.
I have successfully created and defined a topolgy in Map 3D using a Visual Lisp routine that I cobbled together from CREATE.LSP. What I'd really like to do is be able to access that data and create closed polylines and centroids without going through the menu interface. The only documentation that I've been able to find is the Mapping Commands section of the Help file.
I found several commands, but they rely on user input to work. I might be able to work around this by typing a dash before the command line to suppress dialog boxes except for the fact that MAPCLPLINE does not respond to this method.
I noticed in CREATE.LSP that there was a TPM_MTNBUILD command that (apparently) was used to build the topology. Are there similar commands that I just haven't found yet?
Lets say, I have an Extrude feature built on a Rectangle as Sketch Profile. Is it possible to programmatically edit that Sketch, add one line in the middle dividing the Rectangle and replay the Extrude, so that I get Rectangular solid and a Partition surface in between?
This was not possible as a user, but programmatically if its allowed to turn ON some Non-Manifold flag and allow this. If allowed, this probably may not be a single Extrude feature doing both Solid and Surface, but could split into 2 Extrudes.
Auto cad map 2011...unhanded exception error occurs when I create a large (2500+) polygon topology. In fact, initially I only use acad point for centroids to minimize complexity, until I know the map is clean.. Later, when a topology is assured, I bring in attributes as the centroids. I am only using four layers. Have been doing this for five years...always used acad map 2006 and had no issues. Have had the same problem with all releases after 2008, and was hoping this would be the moment..but it's still the same. Incidentally...I even moved to a 64 bit box,6 gigs of ram and 64 bit 2011version of acad map in the hope that this would go away.. How I regret giving up version 2006.
The attached assembly contains 3 parts modelled in slightly different ways. All parts fail when the dimension of 600 is changed to 200 in the Tool Part, probably because a different face comes into play...but it's the same body.
After saying I had very few issues running LR 4.0, 4.1, and 4.2 on a Win 7 32-bit machine, I have started running into problems after trying to make some color corrections using the CA and defringe options. Deleting the preference file did not work, so I am guessing the best thing to do would try the 4.3RC on a new catalog. Correct way to do this without the RC taking over my current catalog. Should I delete 4.2 before installing 4.3RC? I think I would need to rename the Catalog.lrcat file and the Previews.lrdata file so that they would not be pickied up by the RC. Correct? If so, once I have a new catalog in 4.3RC, I would import some files and see how it works out. If I once again become a happy user, how would I import my previous settings from the renamed files?
I have some problems with this drawing. I have some parcels and buildings, and a number for each of them. I attached data to parcel and building number, and I want to create topology and then to create thematic queries, based on any data attached to the numbers. And I don't know how to do that, and how can I use thematic query to show me the specific parcels based on the data I want if the table is attached to the parcel number and not on polylines. Same thing on buildings...
For example: I want to make some thematic maps based on tax value, street where the parcel is located, area, or on buildings: how many levels they have, and more.
I uploaded a example file to be more specific, with data attached to numbers, without topology created (drawing cleanup is done).
I loaded the free trial of CS6 to see if I should buy the upgraded version, or be happy with the less expensive older programs.
Although I can grab the color (alt+click) -- and I see the "spot" that I drag to clone/paint over the object that I'm trying to remove... NOTHING HAPPENS. No color applies, nothing disappears - nada.
I bought a font package and using photoshop to test my fonts always starts out okay. But by the time I cycle through say...40 options things go to hell in a handbasket and SLOOOOOW down. is it the fonts slowing me down? I have a 4gb RAM 2.4 ghz core duo. Is there another option I can use to test out fonts before putting them in photoshop?
I have downloaded the SSURGO file from Web Soil Survey. They are in .shp files, I have imported the spatial files into AutoCad Map 3d 2012. My goal is to create a Topology so that I can detemine the soil type and acres of parcels of land.
When I click on the polygon in my drawing it is a closed polygon with double line or overlapping lines and it does has object data but it is part of the line not a point as I am used to.
I have sculpted several levels of detail on a face and have run into a issue.I have realized that I want to change the topology of the face. How do I go about doing this without losing all of the sculpted detail?
I have an object with about 10 morph targets and I've seen some issues with some shapes, which will need a few more edge loops around the mouth. Adding an edgeloop or any other topology edition to any of the targets or the original breaks the morpher animation. Is there a way to do this? Or to propagate the topology changes to all the morph targets?
I am always having a great problem while modeling knees and elbows. Some people say put three loops on knee and some people say put 5??.. If i put too many loops then it collapse while deforming and when i put less then it won't deform properly...
I just want to Know is there any effective topology technique for knees to deform naturally and which should look realistic while the character is on squatting positions.
We are a small business that uses AutoCAD. We are currently running 2012. We are on subscription. We only draw in 2D because most of our machines are very simple. The question is; what are the new features for 2D? It seems like the only thing Autodesk is interested in is 3D. I don't know if I want to upgrade further.
I need a solution how to convert SDF line features to DWG, where only one feature converted to DWG and DWG is named after feature ID. So if i have SDF file where are 3 featured( ID's are 1,2,3) and i want to convert those features to three different DWG files(one feature per DWG):1.dwg, 2.dwg etc.
When I create a new feature for a feature class in Map, it pops up the Data Table so I can enter my information. The table is a SQL table connected via FDO. There is an ID field set as the primary key. Map wants me to manually enter in the ID. How do you auto generate this field?
I am having a problem to connection to data, the new file connection is properly connecting to data , if I going to add new data , I am getting this error as shown below.
Failed to cache features.
Failed to execute Fdo command.
ORA-03135: connection lost contact Process ID: 11779 Session ID: 4 Serial number: 6917
I'm going through some of the new features/ribbons such as "Design feed" and "Set Location" but when I click on these ribbons, the windows come up blank.
I am signed into my 360 account and the file I'm in is saved to my 360 account as well. why these windows are coming up blank?
I have a drawing that has a connection to OS background map data which is an SDF file.
I want to create new entities in their own new autocad layer based on an offset value from a line in the SDF data.
For example I want to create a new line in a new layer that is say 1.0m offset from a kerb line that appears in the SDF file called OSMMLINE.
I do not want to add these new entities to the SDF data.
When I try to use the offset command Map starts to "populate feature Cache" which takes several minutes, then I can use the offset command in the usual way and create a new line - which "properties" says is in a feature class layer called OSMMLINE(1).
I have a situation where when I install Civl 3D 2013, which includes MS Visual Basic PowerPacks 10.0, it causes our KIP Request software to fail (KIP is our large format printer). Thru extensive testing we have narrowed it down to a conflict between KIP Request and the MS Visual Basic PowerPacks 10.0.I have tried uninstalling the MS VB PowerPacks10.0, which resolves my KIP request problem, and still seems to allow Civil 3D 2013 to run.
My question is - I'm sure the MS VB PowerPacks 10.0 is needed for some part of the Civil 3D 2013 software, but what features in C3D I am impacting by uninstalling MS VB PowerPacks 10.0?
So far this is the only resolution to fix the KIP Request software - but I'm afraid by fixing the KIP Request software I'm somehow messing up the Civil 3D software.
I'm plotting a drawing in which I have land parcels provided in the form of a connected ArcGIS shp file. The parcels are closed polygon features. I'd like to plot the parcels as phantom linetype. The problem is where neighboring parcels have common boundaries, Autocad Map does not filter out the overlapping boundary segments for the purpose of plotting.
As a result, the linetype becomes a mixture of phantom and solid lines and everything in between. I've tryed using plotstyles as well as styling the polygons. I don't think plot styles work with map features. The styling works when the lines do not overlap. Exploding the polygons and removing duplicate segments is not a realistic solution when working with data that is shared by true GIS programs like ArcGIS. I've seen some old postings that indicate this has been a problem for years.
When I use quick select, I can see that there are map features listed in my drawings. When I try to select these features it either says they have been selected but they aren't actually selected, or the autocad will crash forcing me to start over. How can I removed these features (which do not actually appear in the drawing) from the drawing. So many of my files seem to have this problem.
