I am trying to convert the grid system from the default (i need to some how have the coordinates in scale with latitude and longitude as i am working for a maritime company that is drawing on the sea bed?
View 1 RepliesI have a jpeg that I am wanting to paint on a 12x15ft canvas. I was thinking of doing like a grid system with 4 inch spaces between lines, and finding the distance from the lines on the jpeg to the edges of the canvas and then connect the dots.
IE a dot 48 inch from top, 108 from left side which connects to a dot 4 inches down (size of grid) until i have an outline.
I wonder why when i'm using the 960 grid , everytime I start a new shape (here using the line tool) it comes linked with a layer color ? (is it really a layer color?) what's that called ?
why photoshop is always creating these embedded part to my layer ?
I also noticed that I can't change the color of the line tool so easily , let's say if I want to switch to "fill pixel" before using the line tool ... I can't it says the layer isn't editable... why ?
so the only way to add a color to a line is to set it BEFORE I draw it is that right ? And if I want to make it pop more I could play with the "fill" option , am I right ?
My grid X and Y spacing is 10 so I changed it to be 1 and click ok. The grid change and then I close the program. When I open Autocad, I have to change the grid spacing again because it's back to 10.
Also I try to save the drawing work. The saved one which is already change grid spacing, not have the problem. But open new one, I have to change it again.
I have Points in Civil 3D that are in the Washington State South Zone NAD 83 Coordinate System and would like to get these points converted to Washington State North Zone NAD 83 Coordinate System. I am able to convert drawings entities to the new coordinate system using MAPEXPLORER but the points do not go with it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I make a part in Frame Generator, by default it will name the part a big lengthy name like "frame 000001 etc etc". Is there any way that I can change the default naming system and include parameters in the name (the parameters is not necessary, but would be useful).
ALSO, if I name 2 parts the same name will it show up as "QTY 2" in my parts list?
I always use the same 'Home Grid' settings for every project I work on, but can't find a way to save those settings so they'll be automatically loaded when max starts.I even looked through 3dsMax.ini and saw nothing related to grid settings in there.

(could not complete your request as default system font could not be obtained)
using mac os I need to change my scratch disc from the default "system" to an external drive.
In preferences> scratch discs it sees the hard drive i have attached...so i choose it, I click ok and get the usual warning about having to restart illustator to implement the change. problem is, when i quit, then restart illustrator, no dice. it's defaulted back to " system". I change it again. click ok. then, just to see, i re- open the preference panel. it's already gone back to " system". what gives? i've tried over and over and it just wont take.
Preferences / Default Grid says the grid spacing is 48 pixels for both width and height.
Yet when I choose View / Show Grid I get lines spaced on 10 x 10 intervals.
What am I missing?
I have a user and when he's in sketch mode he trys to draw a line but it keeps on snapping to a grid. Both snap and grid setting are switched off. I can't find any settings he has different from my own set-up so I'm finding it hard to fox this problem. FYI, this user is a bit of a problem and tends to change settings without even realising he's doing it.
He's using Inventor 2012.
When i pick points from the drawing using the ID command i recieve a long and meaningless coordinate which is useless to me when setting out. How i can rotate my drawing so that firstly its aligned with my grid and secondly give it the same coordinates as my site based local coordinated grid?
View 9 Replies View RelatedUnderstanding that composite volumes are typically more accurate, I have a reason to evaluate the volume between two surfaces via a grid volume. Easily created a grid volume surface using a 50' grid (50' is large for this site, but wanted to get a feel for calculation time).
Question: Can you change the grid size without creating a new grid surface? Ultimately I woud like to explore the difference in volumes based on grid sizing without creating a long list of surfaces. One would expect that you could chage the grid spacing in surface properties, but the values are non-editable.

View 3 Replies View RelatedRevit has a propensity to locate a lay-in ceiling grid with a grid intersection in the center of the room. You can use the alignment tool to align the grid with a wall. But I see no way to center a tile in a room. This is often a necessity in a narrow room, to keep the lights centered. Also, installers, when not given specific instructions to the contrary, will often locate the ceiling grid to minimize narrow tiles at the wall. We need more control over the position of the grid.

I tried using the shear tool to do it but it is a bit tricky getting it just right. There must be an easier way to do it within the perspective tool grid.
When I type the word and align it to the bottom grid, how do I rotate it whilst still being aligned in perspective on the bottom grid?If I try and rotate the word using the selection tool it rotates off axis so it is no longer laying flat on the bottom grid.
Words placed on the bottom grid always read from the left vanishing point - I want the word to read from the right vanishing point so it aligns with my word on the right grid wall.
I'm looking for an option to adjust the grid size and to snap-to-grid.
For some purposes, you can find a way around this, but it is a pain when working on a project that requires perfect precision.
The topic has been brought up before, but I'm hoping to hear of any news on the possibility of implementing it. I don't assume there has been made any plugins to cater this need since earlier posts on the matter, so I'm hoping to persuade developers to implement the feature in a new version of paint.net instead.
If you need to know more specifically what I'm looking for, then it's basically what you have in Adobe Illustrator or any decent 3D modelling software you will ever come across. It would work pretty much exactly like the grid already in place, except you would not be limited to working only with individual pixels, but rather groups of pixels as you zoom further out. The grid would preferably have thicker lines every 5, 10 or 15 lines, etc. for user to position the various elements.
I'm using Paint.NET 3.5.8 on Windows 7 SP1 64-bit.
While editing small (16 x 16) images, I noticed that Paint.NET used a grid with a width of 2 pixels. Selection rectangles snap to this grid, as do paste operations.
How can I specify the grid width or disable this snap to grid effect altogether?
want to translate my vector illustrations to charts for cross stitch kits. Using the grid tool, but the lines aren't equally spaced? I have a 100cm x 100cm document at the moment, with 1 cm making a 'stitch'. I want a grid that is 100cm x 100cm, made up of 1cm x 1cm squares for simplicity. Then be able to print the design out on the grid.

So, I want to use a grid that I can fill in the individual sections of to create this image, and then remove the grid afterwards when I finish, or at least make it completely invisible.

I have an interior laid out on a scaled grid, and I want to print a copy that displays the grid (ie: visible on the printed page). But everything (& I mean everything) indicates that grids per definition NEVER print.
I also thought that I could create my own grid on a separate layer, but if that's an option, I can't find that either...
I was thinking of something like photoshop can do. Have like a 32x32 pixel grid, then within that 32x32 square a 1x1 pixel grid show up? Of course a different lin maybe dotted?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a situation where the default behavior of my rectangle tool (or any of the other shape tools) is now different. I'm on Mac OS X 10.6.5 running Illustrator CS5. It acts as though the option-shift keys are pressed, so whenever I draw an object, it draws from the center point and the dimensions are constrained, so i can only draw a square or circle, not a rectangle or ellipse. Additionally, whenever I use the selection tool, it clones the object I drag, and also constrains the positioning, so i can only drag in a 0, 45 or 90 degree angle (or multiples thereof). It's as if my option-shift keys are permanently pressed (if I actually press option-shift, the behavior persists). I tried using a different (brand new) keyboard, tried throwing away preferences, and the problem remains. I also tried booting up Illustrator CS4, and the weird problem showed up there! This behavior just started happening spontaneously. I couldn't think of anything weird that happened (a crash, a new plug-in, etc.). I can't find a preference that sets this behavior either.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I drag around vector points of paths they are not constrained to the pixel grid, when the option "Snap Vector Tools and Transform to Pixel Grid" is off. This is the behavior I expect.BUT: When I drag whole paths, they snap to the pixel grid, no matter what. I even have snapping completely disabled.
This is particularly annoying when eg. creating a path for a zipper. I first make a path for the inside of the jacket or whatever, then I make one notch for the zipper and copy it over and over again for all the notches. It's very troubling when these elements snap to the pixel grid, because it's very unprecise then.
I'm using annotative scales. But for example line type scale will also change when I change annotative scale. How can I turn that off.

The functions work in some files but not other it seems to be dependent on the size of the file, i have 7 xref's in the dwg. i can copyclip to the dwg, but not form dwg. is it due to the size of dwg or what? can it be fixed? OR is there a system variable to set?
