AutoCAD LT :: Lengthening / Stretching A Line With Endpoint Grip
Mar 20, 2012
I recently purchased LT 2012. I was using LT 2008 until now. When I grab a line from the endpoint grip and try to lengthen it by typing in a value it either shortens the length by the value I type, changes the overall length to the value I type, or does what I want it to- actually makes the line longer by the value I type but doesn't do any of these consistently. It didn't do this in any older version I've used and I can't find a setting to change it.
A line is drawn parellel to the X-axis. What I have been doing all of my career to lengthen this line, by say 3 inches, is select the line, pick the grip I want to lengthen, drag that grip in the general X direction, type the value 3 at the command promt, and hit enter. Voila, done.
Now what AutoCAD is doing, is bringing the grip (yup, ortho is stll on) to exactly where my curser is, totally disregarding the ortho setting AND the value in typing at the comand prompt.
I am look at a way to place the start of a line a certain distance away from the end of another endpoint. Is there a more productive way of doing this rather than drawing one line on the x axis and another on the y axis.
So when i would select a line, hover over one of the endpoints, the length and angle would be shown, as a quick dimension. for some reason that has stopped, all it does now if i select the line, hover over an endpoint the only thing it says is stretch, or lengthen.
RANT!!! (come on 2013, thats stupid, stretch and lengthen are basically the same thing, dont you think if i stretch something it would automatically lengthen something, and if i lenghtened something, it in fact would also be stretching it. and to see you replaced the simple dimensioning of that line with a pointless i wouldnt call it option. now to figure out the length i have to keep the properties file open, or i have to draw a faux line over the current one just to check its length, or literally i have to draw a dimension line.) EnD!!
What option might have been turned off? and that the new array no longer gives you a box, but you do it all through the command line. or the dynamic input. That was an AWESOME box that i do miss dearly, and no longer have the option to bring back..
1. With the Direct Selection tool, select an anchor point on the segment you want to adjust.
2. Drag the anchor point to the desired position. Shift-drag to constrain the adjustment to multiples of 45°.”
Question: How do I proceed if I’d like to extend a line on one side by its endpoint, while I want to keep its original angle instead of 45° degrees?
And: assuming we’re not working with a standing-alone line, but as part of a construction, as you can see on the screenshot. The point should be move to the intersection on both lines (green and turquois).
I thought, maybe working with functions in GRAPHER – but I hope there is an easier way directly in ILLUSTRATOR.
Please see the attached drawing. It's for a conveyor system, and the idea is that when you insert the block, you could then select the size of the conveyor and the angle of the turn (straight sections are another block).
What is suppose to happen is, when you insert the block, you stretch the conveyor to the size desired, and the rest of the block should scale to match. Then you select the angle of "turn", and you're good to go.
I got it all to work except... when you stretch the line out, everything scales, but the line doesn't stay in place and just stretch to the left, it moves, which leaves a gap where the conveyor should be.
I'm starting to draw a line and I want it to end above a point so that the next line I draw will be perpendicular to the first line and will end at the point. E.g., in the attached picture, I'm starting to draw the orange line and want it to end above the top-right corner of the rectangle.
If I place a dimension and have text above and below the dimension line (using X), and then grip edit the dimension text to move it for space/clarity on plans, the text above and below the line will mysteriously move closer to the line. If I have backgrounds applied to the text, which I normally do, the backgrounds will cover the line. Even without the background, it looks odd next to other dimensions that were not grip edited.
In order to create a swale, I created a feature line representing the bottom of the swale and graded up to an existing surface around its outer perimeter. The slope pattern looks ok when it initially generates the grading. I need to grip and drag certain points along the feature line in order to bring the top of slope lines of the swale close to the bottom of slope lines of an adjacent berm. As soon as I grip and drag the feature line, the slope pattern lines go awry. Instead of a short line then a long line, then short line, etc., the lines are all the same length. It actually appears as if short and long lines are overlapping each other.
With osnap on endpoint only, no other dynamic inputs on, no polar, 3dobject snap dynamic input, grid or snap on.
The cursor looks like it jumps up form the endpoint but actually it moves in the same Z as the osnap. Also when i zoom in i can't move my cursor to the upper or lower part of the screen depending on where I zoom too. If I turn magnet off it seems better but still not correct. In the drawing I uploaded I can't move the cursor up to the entities. If I open a new drawing everything works, on a different drawing everything works. If I insert this into a new file I get the problems back.
URL....Constantly in 12 and 09 I have had issues snapping to endpoints since the changes to osnaps in ACad itself. It doesn't seem the ramifications were followed thru to ACA.
They seem to have addressed some issues in 12 but not all and often it dails completely. As osnaps is a basic functionality I think Adesk needs to get this working properly and as a fix for 10,11,12 and 13.
While using V2013, the middle button on the mouse to pop up the snap chart (mbuttonpan set to 0), I'm getting the zoom extents command in the middle of a command using snap from, then snap endpoint.
Here a quick example: while using hotkeys, I type c for copy-select objects-right click-choose basepoint, (here's where the problem occurs), middle mouse F(from) middle mouse E (endpoint). If I middle mouse F (snap From) pause then middle mouse E (snap endpoint) this works as it should. I click through the commands fast and it's slowing me down every time it zooms to extents in the middle of the command, which makes me zoom back in or cancel & undo.
I'm electrical and have my own display set oddly enough named "electrical". When I set the display to "electrical" I can't osnap to endpoint or midpoint of smart walls in the background (nearest works fine). When I change the display to something else, generally it works.
I have tried using the hot grips selection by holding shift, but some of the grips are overlapping and I can only select the top most grip. It is also a slow process because I must click each individual grip that I want to move as a whole. Is there a way of selecting multiple grips at once including grips that are beneath others?
How do I join two line endpoint together, which terminate at the same anchor point and are at a 90 degree angle, to form a corner instead of a stair step? My problem is on the left, and I want it to look like the right corner.
How to position a Point Helper at the endpoint of the Taper Length in 3d space? I think it would extend the Taper in its use for rigging things. Have a look at the screenshot. I mean the magenta ones.
I know there is a mathematically way with vector analysis, but it's to long ago to script it fast. Or is there a helper which has the same capability?
I was wondering the best way to draw a circle that passes through an endpoint of a line and then is tangent to another circle above it? I need to create a radius of 3.5 between the two points.
I'm trying to make a (for lack of a better term) squarish ellipse.
I've tried a few things but they don't work too well, i.e. plines and lofting a rectangle with an ellipse then cutting it two but they just get me arcs that meet at sharp points.
The jpg below is meant to show what I'm trying to do.
I want to take that one quarter of an ellipse at the intersection and stretch/pull it to the midpoint of the line between the corner of the rectangle and the arc. The ellipse is made out of 4 ellipse arcs. I want to stretch just the arc without moving the ends of it at the quadrants.
I am writing a code to select an object (crossing) and to stretch it a certain distance on the y axis. This is the code that I have to select the object, but I cannot find what to use to stretch it. I actually found something to scale it, but it is not what I need. With ThisDrawing.Utility
Dim SP1sel1(0 To 2) As Double Dim SP1sel2(0 To 2) As Double Dim objSS As AcadSelectionSe Set objSS = ThisDrawing.SelectionSets.Add("zzadsaaafatt") ' Select the object [code]....
I have a 4' light fixture that is a rectangle. Right now I have it set up to where I can stretch it and it copies it’s self whatever length that I stretch it in increments of 4'.
Is there a way for me to modify this so that when I stretch it along an arc, that it copies its self and rotates its self along the edge of the arc?
I am trying to make a block that I can stretch. The end pieces (gusset block) never change size. The only piece that needs to stretch is bar that connects them. The gussets are always on a 45 degrees. If I stretch it over 5 inches on the X axis, it should move -5 on the Y axis.
Suppose I have a rectangle 10 x 8 and then I join the middle points of the widths with a line ... so I will end up with 2 boxes of 5 x 8. Now what I need to do is to stretch the side by 2 units to become 12 by 8 but I want the middle line to move automatically during the stretching process so I end up with two boxes of 6 x 8.
I am trying to create a wall tag to do the following also see attached PDF:
Tag designation (text and number) generated from wall style (wallstyles:type) and be annotative.
Tag has 2 lines forming an L that I would like to preset (12" by the text and 18" long) but have the capability to be stretched/stretchable later on.
Tag has grip hand similar to doors which enables it to be attached to walls but doesn't change placement when wall is extended/trimmed/ moved or wall tag generates information from the wall it touches but if the wall moves the tag would stay but show and error or "X".
i know how to insert a pdf, but im wondering how i can get the logo into CAD with out having the grip square around it. is it possible or do i have to trace the logo by hand to get into my template?
I'm wondering if there is a way to do two things with a block. In the attached drawing, I have a block, Block01. There are 2 visibility states: stretch with 90 degree ends, and stretch with angled ends.
I'd like for the grips for the other parameters to move with the block when I stretch one grip. For example: If I stretch the object with the 90 degree end, I'd like the grips for the angled ends stay in the same position relative to the corners of the object.
I'd also like to have a parameter that reads the angle when stretching with the "stretch with angled ends parameter.
I am running AutoCAD LT 2008 and have started having a problem with a 2 to 3 second hang time when I select the grips on an object. The mouse just freezes up for a few seconds. It doesn't happen when I am in a command and select the object because the grips are not activated then. I have upgraded my graphics driver and reinstalled AutoCAD, with no improvement.
