AutoCAD LT :: Layers Not Working Correctly After Last Update To 2014
Sep 24, 2013
I automatically updated last week for my 2014LT and since then the LAYERS hasn't worked properly. Layer Manger still seems to work correctly, but the Layers tab on the Home ribbon does not. I am running Windows 7 Ultra, Quad Core i7 with 16 MB of Ram, and had been running without errors until this last update.
When/if I select the "Freeze Layer" tab from the top ribbon, and then select the layer on the drawing it turns it off as it should, but if I then use the pull down to locate the layer and turn it back on, nothing happens. It does not appear again; it may not even show up now (see below). I found that if I go to LAYER MANAGER and turn on the layer it still doesn't turn on unless I turn it off and then back on; which will bring it back unfrozen. Also, some layers when frozen do not then show up on my pull-down list or LAYER MANAGER list unless I save the drawing and restart 2014LT. The layer then shows up on the Layer Manger and ribbon.?
Just love updates when everything was already working properly, and then they don't after the "Update"!
If I had some custom lisp routes that I used with ACAD 2009, then 2012...do you think I would need to upgrade, modify or change any of the lisp to work correctly in 2014?
Could a custom lisp that I used in 2012, corrupt, effect performance, screw with other key commands (although with worked in the 2012 software) in 2014 if I didn't upgrade the 2012 lisp?

This is my demo machine and I find that Inventor 2014 is randomly crashing. (Bad news in front of a customer)!
This happens when I am working in another application whilst Inventor is in the background with a model open.
Inventor will then randomly crash. I don't get the Autodesk crash report - I get the window that states - do I want to close the app , debug or whatever.
I just purchased AutoCAD 2012. I am having issues with the layer controls. for example, I make a new layer in the layer properties box. I then assigned it a color, line type and make sure it is on. When I go back to the drawing in the model space the color is not changed, same with the line type and the layer is frozen.
I don't know what is going on. I have tried to regenerate the drawing, switch to the layout tabs and back. Nothing seems to work but one thing. I go up into my ribbon where the layer properties are and nothing is changed as I have defined it in the layers properties box. Once I change it in the ribbon it applies to the drawing.
Is there a variable that I am missing with the new version or what is going on?
(I have tested this on both Map 2010 and Map 2014 but it could be happening in other AutoCad platforms)
when offsetting a polyline with a shallow deflection, the newly created polyline is created incorectly.
I have a 2 segment polyline with a 0D03'00" deflection. when I offset it, the vertex of the new polyline is created in the wrong location. On a polyline with a 0d04'00" deflection, offset works correctly.
If I explode the polyline, offset the lines and fillet them, the vertex is correct.
Attached is the final result. The red polyline is the polyline with a 3' deflection and the green polyline has a 4' deflection. when offset the vertex's should land at the center of the circles that are drawn but the red polyline vertex is incorrect by 0.00654456.
In CS6, I could import (open) DWG files and it would correctly categorize the input objects into separate layers. In CC, it is putting them into a group in a single layer, which is a big usability regression. Is there a fix for this?
In AutoCAD 2011 and 2012 my spell check instantly recognizes a misspelled word as soon as you enter a space after the word as you type.
AutoCAD 2013 does not recognize the misspelling until I go back (still within the text editor) and click on the word. Only then will it show the red underline. This is using Dtext only. Mtext works fine.
For the bad spellers or missed keystrokes, the fast "on the fly" spell checking was great. How to get my AutoCAD 2013 to behave similarly?
When you go to the Appearance Browser and go to our custom appearances, some of the thumbnails don't match what the appearance is actually set to. If you open up/edit the appearance it shows the correct appearance, but the thumbnail isn't displayed correctly.
I've used cad now in a basic 2d architectural sense now for 10 years, through various versions.
I have recently dropped back to a 2007 from 2008 (changed jobs) and for some reason the draw order is all messed up i noticed this first through hatching but its on everything including inserted images.
I've tried a few of the solutions on other threads even uninstalling cad and re-installing it and nothing seems to be sorting it. Functions like 'send to back' etc just don't work and the draw orders are all to pot.
For an intersection, I am trying to create an alignment and profile from the Lane (edge of traveled way) of my main road for the intersection lanes to tie to. I just did this yesterday on this same corridor without any issue, but today it doesn't create the alignment correctly. It doesn't actually follow the feature line that I select. The alignment is in orange and the green line is the lane line. Notice that the alignment isn't following the lane line.
What would cause this? It worked fine doing the exact same thing yesterday, but today it's not.

I cleaned up my block and I am trying to use a field to reference a polyline for it's overall distance. The distance changes with my lookup action. After rotating and going back and forth from "On" - "Off" - "Both Off", then back to "On", the red polyline doesn't stretch back on it's original plane.
Thats pretty much it. While pressing F3 to toggle Osnap, if Ortho is ON it first turns it off and then F3 would toggle Osnap. The same thing happens with F8 if Osnap is ON.
I checked out the CUI and for some reazon it had a lot of different shortcuts to toggle Osnap and Ortho, so I thought just keeping F3 and F8 would make it work, but it does the same thing.
I isolated 2 layers in a drawing. While working on those 2 layers being isolated, I again isolated one of those 2 leaving 1 layer. I executed the LAYUNISO command which brought back the last layer (that I had isolated after executing my first LAYISO command), but did not unisolate all of the other layers that were isolated during my first LAYISO command. I attempted using the LAYUNISO command again, but it still remains with only those 2 originally isolated layers and I cannot unisolate the other layers. I have also tried the LAYON command. All of the other layers are on and are not frozen.
I am having an issue with plotting a drawing that includes an xref. I have also included an attachment as reference.
I am working in AutoCAD 2010; I have a drawing that includes another drawing as an xref. The xref is on layer “0” in model space and my titleblock, annotation and viewports are in paper space (layout tab). I am using color dependent plot styles (.STB). The xref is a 3D model created with basic AutoCAD solids representing steel shapes, there are also some line segments representing the steel centerlines. The viewport is a plan view of the 3D steel model, the view is not clipped. Since the xref contains 3D objects when I print the drawing I don't want the “hidden” lines to show up, I accomplish this by setting the viewport shade plot setting to “HIDDEN”.
Here is the problem:
When I print the drawing the xref’s layers do not print correctly but rather take on the properties of layer “0” which has a plot style of “NORMAL” so everything prints in color and with a default lineweight. I want the xref to print using the xref’s layer properties that are defined in the .STB file. One variable that changes the outcome of the printed drawing is the viewport shade plot setting.
If the viewport shade plot is set to HIDDEN the xref prints using layer “0” properties (undesired) and the3D object lines are hidden (desired). See attached Viewport #1
If the viewport shade plot is set to AS DISPLAYED the xref prints using the xref’s layer properties (desired) but the 3D object lines are not hidden (undesired). See attached Viewport #2
The ONLY difference between the two viewports is the shade plot setting, there are no layer overrides and only the xref objects are affected, the objects in paper space print as expected. This only happens with an xref or block. If I bind the xref into the drawing and explode it so the objects are “live” in the drawing everything works fine. Unfortunately I need it to work correctly with an xref.
If I use a color dependent plot style (.CTB) where the .CTB file controls the color and lineweight I am able to achieve the desired results, unfortuneatly my company is determined to use .STB files
I recently migrated to the Inventor 2014 release and immediately encountered several issues.
One that I haven't found reported on this site is the problem related with the 3D mouse (3D connexion Space Navigator). I've been working with it beautifully with R2012-2013 but now that I started working on Inventor 2014 it stalls and stops working suddenly. It's so bad that I stopped using the 3D mouse entirely.

I uninstalled and re-installed the latest mouse drivers and checked that it's not the device malfunctioning. I also installed the Inventor update available on Autodesk site. No change...
Interesting find this morning. In C3D 2014, the MAPEXPORT asks to save the file name, give the file a name, and then nothing happens. I have done a repair and to no avail, nothing. The dialog box does not appear, and no file is created.
A bit of difference is that the polylines do not have to be even closed. Any polyline gives me exactly the described behaviour, which is definitely not intended. Appears still not resolved.
The big problem is that when am doing whatever work, the program stop working and show a error message, that says: ERROR FATAL: Unhandled access violation writing 0x000 exception at 70601612h

And it happens when i'm on any kind of views or after printing..

I recently installed Inventor 2014. With Inventor 2013, I was able to do a Save Copy As on an IDW file to save it as either a DXF file or AutoCAD DWG file without any issues. In Inventor 2014, doing this produces the following dialog boxes in succession:
No DXF or DWG is produced. I tried doing this to a new, blank drawing from one of the default IDW templates and I get the same result. What can I do to fix this?
We use mandatory roaming profiles for our students and have done for some 14 years with all previous versions of our Autodesk products.
Now Inventor 2014 Pro (running on Windows 7 SP1 x64) will not open with a mandatory profile applied all I get is the new "Send AutoDesk your error box" Remove the mandatory profile and let the user create a local profile from the same default profile used to create the mandatory profile, Inventor works. The only clue I get to what might be happening is in the infocenter.log (within the Appdata section of the profile) where it states that the inventor.xml is not found. Without the mandatory applied the log is clear and the inventor.xml exists in the same folder.
'm running windows 7, and am using PS CS5. It has started developing a few problems that are becoming very troublesome. My system is 64-bit running intelcore i5 2320 3.00 gz with 6gb ram. It's a Dell which is probably the main problem to begin with, but here goes.
It won't open any secondary files on the first try. When it doesn't, I have to scroll through folders, then try to re-open the file. Major headache. On my preferences under performance, "Open GLdraw" is not checked.
It often won't let me make any image adjustments on a file, or on a layer unless I close the program and restart.saving files in an unrecognized format. I usually can recover some if I open them with paint, but I find this ridiculous.
Today I tryed to simulate cloth that was created in 3ds max 2012.While in max 2012 it works fine, in 2014 the cloth pops a few centimeters up. No matter what i tried (reset state, erase simulation, delete the cloth modifier and re apply it) the problem persists.
Along with other problems such as geometry being corrupted (in max 2014), crashes when rendering, and wierd viewport problems, max 2014 has to be THE MOST buggy and problematic release of 3ds max I've ever used.
When I paste an item in the assembly, the item is thrown off in space. It places it so far away that it is not even in the view window. I have to stop what I doing, do a find in window and then drag it close to where I need it. Then I can start constraining it.
Why does it not place the item at my coursor location like it used to?
I'm having a problem with 2014 version. Property palette doesn't show the property of any object. It shows blank and same thing with quick select as well.
