View 1 RepliesI have inventor 2012 and I´m having trouble doing a cut boolean operation to two solids. One is a revolved elipse, so it´s a kind of egg, and the other one is an extruded rectangle.
I want to cut the egg in the rectangular solid, so I can obtain a rectangular solid with an empty egg space inside. I tried to use the "derived" command, so I derived the egg from the rectangular solid, and used the combine command, but with no success. Right now I have two separated solids on the same file (the egg and the extruded rectangle).
Where I am joining 2 solids (like plywood sitting in a dado joint), how can I have one solid be carved out where the 2nd solid overlaps it, without deleting the 2nd solid.
what SUBTRACT does but without the deleting.
Recently have had AutoCAD re installed and and am having trouble unioning and subtracting the two solids in the attached file. Other objects will occasionally subtract and union with these objects, but only occasionally.

You will see one cylinder solid thru the wheel on the attached drawing file.
I am trying to use the Subtract command to remove a hole space thru the wheel. Can't get that to work.
I'm designing a part that in Autodesk Inventor 2013 that is constructed from several layers laminated together. I have 4 layers:
F (front)
M1 (middle, variation one)
M2 (middle, variation two)
B (back)
The final solid will lhave 17 layers laid out like this:
F | M1 | M2 | M1 | M2 | M1 | M2 ... | B
I currently have a part file containing
F | M1 | M2
What's the best way to create this solid if I want to a) keep all instances of M1 and M2 in sync, and b) make it easy to work on all 4 layers. Do I have to export F, M1, M2, and B as individual parts and import them into an assembly or can I keep them in one part file? I really like the ability to be able to work on all the solids at the same time because they're visually dependant on each other.
I have a part which I am using the Split tool to make two solid parts. All was fine until a few days later when I went back and made some changes to the surface I was using for the Split. Now, Inventor has flipped the two solid bodies, so later features I had placed now don't work.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI need to do a cut extrusion on a multibodied part and need to select the solids. As of right now I have to select each one individually rather than doing a drag box or something like that. how I can do this fast, I've got a multibody part w/ over 1000 solids (I didn't create it, yes I know this is probably excessive).
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a part which has 2 solid bodies in it which were created using the extrude command. When setting the iProperties for this part I get the material properties applied to both solids. Is it possible to set a material for each solid so that they will be listed separately under iProps ? I suspect this can't be done in which case how would I go about separating the solid bodies ?

derive multiple solids from a part. I use the code shown below but it seem as I only can get the first solid in the part that I am trying to derive from.
''More Code'''
' Create a new part document, invisibly.
oPartDoc = m_inventorApp.Documents.Add(DocumentTypeEnum.kPartDocumentObject, , True)
oPartDoc.UnitsOfMeasure.LengthUnits =UnitsTypeEnum.kMillimeterLengthUnits
' Derive the assembly into the part.
Dim oDerivedPrtDef AsDerivedPartDefinition
oDerivedPrtDef = oPartDoc.ComponentDefinition.ReferenceComponents.DerivedPartComponents.CreateDefinition(oTopDoc.FullDocumentName)
Call oPartDoc.ComponentDefinition.ReferenceComponents.DerivedPartComponents.Add(oDerivedPrtDef)

How can I get all the solids from the part that I am deriving from?
Is there a way to sculpt a part composed of multiple solid bodies without having to perform the sculpt command for each solid body? I want to use the same work plane to remove material from a part but the sculpt command only allows me to select one body at a time. This means after the first sculpt of one solid, I need to turn on the visibility of the consumed work plane and perform a sculpt on each of the remaining solids.
Not a huge issue, but in the future I may need to do a large number of these tasks. I attached a sample file. I threw it together in 30 seconds so it's not the prettiest looking thing.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a solid of a vortex breaker for a nozzle in a cone, from which I subtracted the cone. But when I attempt to subtract the nozzle as well, it will not subtract. I have verified that both entities are solids. I copied them into a new drawing by themselves. I even rebooted my computer--all to no avail. I have attatched a drawing of the two solids.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIf you have a housing with say, 12 cylinders in the flange which are to be cut out of the housing to become the 12 bolt-holes. If you positioned your cylinders using polar array, are you supposed to be able to use the command solid/substract? I can't as it won't pick the array parts to cut. I had to resort to rotating/copy all the cylinders around the flange and then it works great. Any way to do holes through a solid...
View 9 Replies View Relatedknow if there is a way to subtract one solid from another "with clearance" i.e. with an additional evenly applied clearance? I have seen this function in other applications, wondering if it possible somehow in Autocad?

(yellow edges have to be were are the red ones).I did it with construction lines, but I'm sure there is a more efficient way (with a command like offset).

how I can Identify invalid solids without having to select each solid individually.I would think that a lisp routine would be the way to go, but I cannot find what makes a solid invalid as opposed to being valid.

But if the layer is show agean then the extrued will have a hole in it agean.
P.s. for an example of one thing this could be used for, modeling wrenches with difrent shaped grips but the same handle. Without just making multiple copys of the handle.
I it possible to split multiple solid bodies. I'm finding that it only allows me to split one body at a time.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Hole that cuts through 2 solid bodies, a gasket and a cover plate. I want to pattern the hole in BOTH solids at the same time, but the pattern feature dialog box will only let me select one solid at a time. I could pattern the hole in one solid before projecting to the other, but the quantity of the holes can change. When the quantity of the holes changes only the holes from the initial pattern are projected. For instance if I have 10 hole initially and it increases to 12 the 2 new holes do not project to the second solid body.

My issue is we have Universal assemblies that never change. These assemblies are thousands of parts. (hardware gaskets other random assemblies.) this top level universal assembly never changes.
to increase time in layouts. we would like to create these universal assemblies into 1 sold part.
Is there a was to export an assembly into a single solid part.
I am in the 3d modeling view, and have extruded closed polylines. when i go to subtract the object inside the other it won't subtract the command says <Modeling Operation Error: failure in face-face intersection merging algorithm>
I don't know how to fix it.
I want to create one Spur Gear in inventor with equations such that i can build more gears from this base model using excel table. For. Eg. I would like to create a gear with 40 No. of teeth of 10DP, and 20°PA, with Pitch Circle Dia, Base CIrcle Dia, Tooth Thickness based on spur gear calculations.
Now i would like to create a series of such spur gears with varying no. of teeth, i.e. 42, 44, 46, 48, 50..etc. Now if i change the No of teeth ,Accordingly the gear should modify its pitch dia, Base circle dia, Tooth Thickness which would be noted in the Equation.
how to create thes equations and use these in creating gear with different no. of teeth.
I have shown below list of gear data for various no. of gear.
The new features in 2014 does not work. I can project solids to a section view but not to multiple section views.

Ideally we would like to have a solid model, but I'm running out of time to get this done and the surface model we have would be good enough for our purposes IF I can get the yellow surface tangent lines to turn off or change their color to black.
I've attached a jpg of the surface model with the yellow lines and uploaded the model here: [URL].....
I am now modeling elements for silicone formwork for casting elements of epoxy resien.
I would like to schow idea of this formwork. For this I would like to make part representing silicone part of this formwork. It is contained in aluminium "cover" for convenience of use.
In assembly I have placed may model, and aluminium elements representing "cover" of formwork.
I am trying now to model silicon but it is quite hard. I can not use "derivered part" method to substract model and cover elements from some big block body because coordinate systems do not mach in all elements.
In Part there is "combine" function but it only works with bodies mabe within this part.
Is it possible to substract one placed in assembly from anothe part in this assemby?
I'm trying to split a single solid body into 2 solid bodies. The problem is that the body I'm trying to split consists of two separate pieces. I can split a body when it is a single piece no problem, but I'm having the problem when the two pieces are not joined at all.
When I try and split it on the origin plane it gives this error:
"Creating parting line failed. Could not build this Split"
When I try and split it on a work plane lying on one of the pieces it gives this error:
"Creating parting line failed. Modeling failure in ASM. Redefine inputs."
Or, another variation on this erorr:
"Creating parting line failed. Split feature could not create two bodies. Change the Split Tool so that split feature can create two bodies."
