AutoCAD Inventor :: How Long For Part Fill / Mold Fill Analysis
Sep 7, 2013Okay, so it's been a while since I've done one of these, and I haven't done one on 2014 at all yet.
I've got a fairly simple part, it's about 6" long x 3" wide, less than 3/8" thick, without a whole lot of complex geometry to work with. I've built up my whole mold for it, and that went okay, but the fill analysis seems like it's taking forever. Like hours. It gets to the "Fill" stage, gets just a sliver of green on the progress bar, and then sits.
Last time I tried this was on my workstation at the office, using 2013. It didn't take nearly this long, and the part was much larger and far more complex, with a significantly slower computer.
Is something broken with this in 2014? I guess I can just let it run overnight, see what happens in the morning ...

AutoCAD Inventor :: Create Simple Mold Using Solid Body And Split
May 14, 2013if i draw up a 3d sold part as the finished part, can i then draw a new rectangle solid body over the top of this and split the new solid body using the part as the split tool?
the idea being that i am left with a rectangular plate with a female 3d impression of the finished part in the top.I can't seem to use the part as a split tool?

Nov 7, 2013I have a part I have drawn in inventor. It is saved as an ".ipt" file.
I would like to split this part into two seperate Ipt files so i can assemble it a different way.
For example,
the part i wish to design is an alternate keying of the one i just drew-
meaning that a solid of the part is rotated 60 degrees in this case.
Is it possible to do this with inventor commands?

Dec 29, 2012I decided to model an industrial iron caster wheel with polyurethane tread, and all went well. Tonight I added three ribs to one side of the caster wheel, which looks great, but I would rather not repeat the process on the other side because of all the fillets and such which would have to be repeated.
Is it possible to split the wheel down the middle and then mirror the side with the ribs? I saw that I can split the model with a plane, but I can't figure out how to remove the geometry on the left side of the plane.

Jun 21, 2013I have a sheet metal part drawn up that I can't manufacture as modeled. The solution is to convert it from a two bend part into two single bend parts that will then be welded together. (I have an iLogic configurator that spit it out or else I would have drawn it right in the first place) Normally I would split it into two solids and derive them into two parts, but because Inventor still doesn't support multi-body sheet metal (this is something I curse about daily, by the way...) I would have to convert it to a standard part first.
The problem here is, I have a ton of edits done to my flat pattern. I have an extruded tab that's needed for my press brake operator that later gets cut off, and I have a fairly complex sketch that I use to program my laser with etch lines for my welders to use. How I can accomplish converting this into right/left parts without having to redo my flat pattern edits?

Feb 4, 2013I have made a sheet metal part in inventor (see image). I have made the part as it will be in the finished production state. The problem is that the part is impossible to bend from one single plate, so it has to be made from several plates and welded together.
What i want to do is to remove the four corner plates (denoted with red arrows in the image) and make a flat pattern for these separately.
The reason i made these corner plates in my model is to get the assembled part 100% correct. if i dont, inventor doesnt make the angles that i need between the flanges in the top.

May 2, 2012you have to primitives, that you've modified. These objects are one on top of the other.When you click on the one that's on top, the screen momentarily goes dark, then all you see is the object on the bottom, not the one you are say, moving.
What you should be seeing, of course is the top element, and bottom element, so, (as in this example) you can see how far you have moved it in relation to the bottom one.
My question is: is this happening because my video card is under performing?

Aug 13, 2013I have a very simple Inventor 2013 CAD model that I tried to export to an STL and the scale of the STL is not 1:1. I have tried changing all of the units and setting 100 different ways and I still cannot get it to export to a 1:1 scale for 3D printing. What is the deal with this I cannot believe it is this difficult.

Mar 20, 2013How can I display a sketch or projected geometry that is not a closed loop in a ipt drawing? Historically I have to use a closed loop and emboss in order to display the geometry in a drawing.
Then move that forward to a DXF file for its intended use. I think there should be a way to just have lines placed on the model and display it on a drawing without it having to be a feature.

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Use Existing Sketch While Making New Part (model)
Aug 12, 2013I have made a part - a motor that has four holes.
Now I'm trying to make another part, which will be aluminium plate that needs to have holes in exactly same points as the motor. My assembly containts both that parts.
What I'm trying to do is to reference in sketch a point that comes from different part (motor).
I could do it by hand, make it look that the holes are on top of each other but then there will be an error which doesn't seem professional.
In some tutorial on yt I have only found that using points one can reference the holes more easily, but it didn't show how.

Dec 7, 2012I'm trying to extract the Rev of a model (part or assembly) from a drawing. Since Inventor has independent revs for the model and idw I am trying to drill down and put the rev from the model referenced. I got it to work for ipts and many iams using:

The problem I have is when the drawing only references an ipn presentation file. The ipn ALSO has it's own independant rev! I'm trying access the model the ipn references but cannot get it to work.
BTW, I do know about the ability to sync idw and ipt properties. I have enable it for our template but we have a lot of legacy drawings that don't have this option selected. I also haven't tested that method with an drawing that only references an ipn.
