View 1 RepliesI would like to save my inventor Part and Assembly model file in a lower version. Like in our company we use both Inventor 2012 and 2010. Once the file is created in 2012 and when shared to 2010 users they are unable to open, is there any possiblities to open 2012 files 2010 like how we do in Autocad.

I have an assembly with a FEA simulation result. I can run a report and get the reaction forces and moments at each constraint. I would like to run a new simulation with different constraints and use the reaction results from the first simulation as loads in the second one.
Currently I do this by running a report on the 1st simulation to get a table of the reaction results. I then manually add those forces to the 2nd simulation. This takes time to type and the forces must be edited each time I re-run the 1st simulation.
Is there a way to use parameters to automate this?
Is it possible to link one part file dimension to another part file?
1. Part first is a cylinder in parametric table i changed it,s name OD , ID and thk. ( find attachment )
Cylinder ID is ( ID=105)
2. Then i made 2 nd part whose step od ( od=102) is going to insert in to cylinder id.There is 3 mm clerance every time
3. So i have to make equction in 2 nd part that ( Step OD= ( ID-3).
means next time when i will change ID of cylinder OD of 2 nd part will ger changed automatically minus by 3 mm than id of cylinder.
I've created a rectangular cloth much like a shower curtain. I've selected verts along the top edge in about 5 places. I simulate and get nice drooping cloth between the points I've 'preserved.' After about 5 seconds though, I need to just release those attachments so the whole cloth falls to the ground.
I can't figure out how to do it. Is there a way to key the Group and have it turn off and stop preserving the verts I've selected? What's a good workflow to handle this?
I have unchecked resolve file references, etc, and still basically spends 5 minutes looking for files i told it not to look for. Why doesnt it just open the assembly or drawing, without waiting for ever?

When I create a new chapter and try to save the part in the new chapter, I get an error message saying "ERROR SAVING COLE FILE". What is a COLE file and why am I getting this error? Could there be a problem because the original part was created in 2013, and now I'm working in 2014?
We recently changed the location of our CAD Standards (such as Pipe Network Catalog). Can I simply copy the Pipe Network Catalog and paste it to the new location and have everything work the same or do I have to do something special?
Dear Sir, In particular project, when I insert part in Assembly file, It is inserted as a Tube & Pipe run part. so that It is not Grounded automatically. What is the settings by which I can insert as a normal part in assembly file ? I have attached herewith the JPG file also.

Part created in assembly does not update to part file.
The simple question is… how can we insert a step (stp) part into an existing part file?
The story behind the question is this:
Normally when we get a step file assembly from a customer, if the part has changed, we put our part into Old Versions and save their new step file as our ipt number and replace it in our assembly file. With Vault, in order for us to maintain the history of the part files, we need to keep the original file so we can’t just delete it or replace it, so now we need to figure out how to get a step file into an ipt. The Import command on the Manage tab (with 2013 at least?) does not allow import of stp files just yet.
The only other option I can think of is to put the original part into an assembly with the step file, create a copy of the step information in the part file and use it to recreate the new (step based) part.

I started out with a single 3 dimensional piece i had made using sketches, and split it into two using the split feature under the modify tab. Now I would like to take each of those two pieces and copy them into their own individual part files. I could do this by remaking them, but was wondering if I could simply copy and paste them into separate files.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn testing my latest automation project, I've found that I can't save copies of a part multiple times (after deleteing the files off the disk) unless I close out of the top level assembly document, and reopen it. I used Process Monitor and determined that Inventor is trying to save to an existing file instead of creating a new file.

I have several iParts with their respective derived parts in my library. There are not many other Inventor users here that use those parts, but they might benefit from having those individual parts. The iPart may change from time to time, and in order to keep the individual parts current, I am required to activate them one by one, exporting them to STEP, IGES, SAT or IPT files for both people here to use as well as our Pro-E and Solidworks users. Is there a way to automate that process so I can hit a button and have it save all instances to a certain file format?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI created a spreadsheet of about 40 rows to be used to create different parts. I then created a part "we'll call it Board_A". I linked to the spreadsheet and used 3 of the fields for my dimensions. Lets say I named the length (which was the extrusion number) as "Len_1". I saved it and all is well!! I then created other parts and used the spreadsheet for the dims. I then went back and opened "Board_A" and saved a copy as "Board_B". I closed Board_A and opened Board_B. I then rt clicked on "Extrusion" so I could change the length from "Len_1" to "Len_1_A" which is another row (field) on that same spreadsheet which is still linked. When I tried I received a message that said I couldn't do that (I forgot the actual message!) I clicked the Parameter icon and the only fields showing on the popup spreadsheet box were the ones I had previously used for those parts that I made from scratch. I thought I figured this out once but if I did I forgot. I deleted the spreadsheet link and then re-added it but nothing I have tried has worked. Is there a way to get these fields to be usable with a Copy of an existing part or do I just have to start from scratch and make the similar part?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an iLogic template part that has a multi value parameter. In this case the product code can be selected from a list of 4 codes. In futre we may need 5 and the 5th may need to be available to older parts.
I would like to avoid having to add the 5th as an option to every part we've ever made when the 5th becomes required.
I'd like to have the list of codes stored in an external file (Possibly an xml) and the template part reference that file to acquire it's list of available codes. That way I can add codes to the xml and all the files will have their list of available codes updated.
The goal of this project is to take a base part file, save new copies as needed, then modify the copies. They're rings for storage tanks that share the same tank diameter but differ in height and thickness. I have a SaveAsCopy rule in my template ring part that I run externally from my main assembly after passing down the new file names to the part rule. Since I'm testing a lot, I'm always deleting the parts from the assembly, then clearing out the new copies from my folder and running the rule again. Eventually after 1-5 times inventor starts giving me an error.
The parameter is incorrect. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070057 (E_INVALIDARG))
The More Info Tab:
System.ArgumentException: The parameter is incorrect. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070057 (E_INVALIDARG)) at System.RuntimeType.ForwardCallToInvokeMember(String memberName, BindingFlags flags, Object target, Int32[] aWrapperTypes, MessageData& msgData) at Inventor.Document.SaveAs(String FileName, Boolean SaveCopyAs) at LmiRuleScript.Main() at Autodesk.iLogic.Exec.AppDomExec.ExecRuleInAssembly(Assembly assem) at iLogic.RuleEvalContainer.ExecRuleEval(String execRule)
The two other posts on here that deal with that error say it involves enumerating an array that is being changed and looking for an entry that is gone. I have a feeling it has to do with a left over variable (but this is all in iLogic rules so they get cleared at the end of the rule?), temporary files or remnant file references. It works again if I close the assembly and open it back up. Inventor 2013 SP 1.1
We use a similar sub-assembly in almost every assembly we design. So what I would like to do is make a template from this sub-assembly that I can make adaptive, constrain to the proper parts and have it resize to the main assembly. I've been trying to do this for a few weeks now with little success.
I have seen tutorials make adaptive part templates but never adaptive assembly templates. Is this even possible?
I know you can't make individual parts adaptive to multiple assemblies without saving each part as a different file and I think that's where my problems are coming from. Even though I save the template as a different file is it still referencing the original adaptive part in my library folder? If so, is there a way I can make it not do that? I may be way off base there too I don’t know.
I'm linking an excel file to an .ipt file with iLogic code determining if the Material type is a certian value it will find the correct material thickness. These file work great when working on them thru Vault but when I "Save As Template" and create this file where our other template files are located (not Vault) this fuction does not work. I have realized that I had to place the a copy of the excel file in the same file folder as the template ipt, but even this does not fix the issue.
I recieve this error:
Error in rule: Material, in document: Part6
'MWW Materials (Inventor).xlsx' could not be found. Check the spelling of the file name, and verify that the file location is correct.
If you are trying to open the file from your list of most recently used files, make sure that the file has not been renamed, moved, or deleted.
It seems completly countintutive that just saving the file as a template file would cause this not to work when all files that are required are located in the same file folder. Maybe I need a reference to the excel document within the iLogic code.
I want to import some of the iproperties of one ipt file into an iam file.how to do it.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI took an existing assembly from one specidifc directory and copied it to another location. Then one part by one I use the replace command to swap out the parts to map to the new location because when I went to iproperties it was still pathing to the old location. I change the new parts physical features (i.e. length, diameter).
I get done with it and all references are pointing to the new location.
I exit out of inventor and call up the new assembly and it has mate errors because the parts are all of the old ones from the original location. Why is it not remembering or retaining the new parts and there locations?
Even when I have gotten this screen I have selected "No" to the bottom (2nd) selection which is the original location I do not want.
Does view rep work in part file. I remember few months before some one wrote saying not in part file and it works only in assembly file. Is it still the case. How to turn off few parts in my drawing.
