In testing my latest automation project, I've found that I can't save copies of a part multiple times (after deleteing the files off the disk) unless I close out of the top level assembly document, and reopen it. I used Process Monitor and determined that Inventor is trying to save to an existing file instead of creating a new file.

The goal of this project is to take a base part file, save new copies as needed, then modify the copies. They're rings for storage tanks that share the same tank diameter but differ in height and thickness. I have a SaveAsCopy rule in my template ring part that I run externally from my main assembly after passing down the new file names to the part rule. Since I'm testing a lot, I'm always deleting the parts from the assembly, then clearing out the new copies from my folder and running the rule again. Eventually after 1-5 times inventor starts giving me an error.

The two other posts on here that deal with that error say it involves enumerating an array that is being changed and looking for an entry that is gone. I have a feeling it has to do with a left over variable (but this is all in iLogic rules so they get cleared at the end of the rule?), temporary files or remnant file references. We use a similar sub-assembly in almost every assembly we design. So what I would like to do is make a template from this sub-assembly that I can make adaptive, constrain to the proper parts and have it resize to the main assembly. I've been trying to do this for a few weeks now with little success.
I have seen tutorials make adaptive part templates but never adaptive assembly templates. Is this even possible?
I know you can't make individual parts adaptive to multiple assemblies without saving each part as a different file and I think that's where my problems are coming from. Even though I save the template as a different file is it still referencing the original adaptive part in my library folder? If so, is there a way I can make it not do that? I may be way off base there too I don’t know.
So they say if you save a JPG image lots of time, the image starts to lose information...
If I open up a JPG image in Photoshop, make some edits, then use the 'save as' command (using a lower quality setting), overwriting the current file open, will saving it again further compress the image that is currently open? Or does photoshop store the original file (when it was first opened) information until closed?
If I nead to insert a Part a many times in an assembly... let's say fifty times.
The only way I know is to copy past fifty times (then I place them with the constraints neaded).
The rectangle or cicular array can't be used since they a realy in different places.
But is there a fastest way to insert the Part fifty times in the assembly, instead of copy paste?
Our Autocad parts lists used to calculate the weight of parts times the quantities. Now we are using Inventor and I see that the weight shown on a parts list is the weight of an individual part - although the quantity could be 2 , 3 (more than one). Is there a way to have the total weight shown equal to MASS times ITEM QTY?

I did that in parent solid body. then I noticed that other 3 solid body is not getting updated. I know in assembly file it gets updated but any way in part file.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an issue where an addin loads once the first time Inventor is opened. If the addin is unloaded and reloaded via the Addins dialog and no documents are open it loads once. If the addin is reloaded while a file is open is reloads twice.
I came to the conclusion it is loading multiple times because the it seems to go through the Activation method of the addin twice. When is the Activation method called during loading an addin?

A drawing that is in Vault, it asks if you want to check it out, and if you say no (like if you just need to print it), it opens it then asks you again if you want to check it out? Did it not get the hint the first time?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm designing a part that in Autodesk Inventor 2013 that is constructed from several layers laminated together. I have 4 layers:
F (front)
M1 (middle, variation one)
M2 (middle, variation two)
B (back)
The final solid will lhave 17 layers laid out like this:
F | M1 | M2 | M1 | M2 | M1 | M2 ... | B
I currently have a part file containing
F | M1 | M2
What's the best way to create this solid if I want to a) keep all instances of M1 and M2 in sync, and b) make it easy to work on all 4 layers. Do I have to export F, M1, M2, and B as individual parts and import them into an assembly or can I keep them in one part file? I really like the ability to be able to work on all the solids at the same time because they're visually dependant on each other.
From the image above you can see that "jquery" loaded twice @ 91kb = 181kbedge 1.5 loaded twice @ 102kb = 204kb aswell as the edge and edge actions files loaded twice and if i boot strap comps together the images are loaded multiple times aswell
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have this script that basically makes a shape expand by adding an outline, conveting the outline to an object, and then welding the whole thing together.
I have the script set to execute with hotkey ctrl+numpad+
The odd thing is, when I run it once, it seems to work fine and only one object is left, but when I hold down ctrl and press numoad+ over and over again, it seems to produce a new copy of the object everytime.
I'm not sure why this is happening, but I need to get it to stop.

There are not many other Inventor users here that use those parts, but they might benefit from having those individual parts. The iPart may change from time to time, and in order to keep the individual parts current, I am required to activate them one by one, exporting them to STEP, IGES, SAT or IPT files for both people here to use as well as our Pro-E and Solidworks users. Is there a way to automate that process so I can hit a button and have it save all instances to a certain file format?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI created a spreadsheet of about 40 rows to be used to create different parts. I then created a part "we'll call it Board_A". I linked to the spreadsheet and used 3 of the fields for my dimensions. Lets say I named the length (which was the extrusion number) as "Len_1". I saved it and all is well!! I then created other parts and used the spreadsheet for the dims. I then went back and opened "Board_A" and saved a copy as "Board_B". I closed Board_A and opened Board_B. I then rt clicked on "Extrusion" so I could change the length from "Len_1" to "Len_1_A" which is another row (field) on that same spreadsheet which is still linked. When I tried I received a message that said I couldn't do that (I forgot the actual message!) I clicked the Parameter icon and the only fields showing on the popup spreadsheet box were the ones I had previously used for those parts that I made from scratch. I thought I figured this out once but if I did I forgot. I deleted the spreadsheet link and then re-added it but nothing I have tried has worked. Is there a way to get these fields to be usable with a Copy of an existing part or do I just have to start from scratch and make the similar part?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an iLogic template part that has a multi value parameter. In this case the product code can be selected from a list of 4 codes. In futre we may need 5 and the 5th may need to be available to older parts.
I would like to avoid having to add the 5th as an option to every part we've ever made when the 5th becomes required.
I'd like to have the list of codes stored in an external file (Possibly an xml) and the template part reference that file to acquire it's list of available codes. That way I can add codes to the xml and all the files will have their list of available codes updated.
I would like to save my inventor Part and Assembly model file in a lower version. Like in our company we use both Inventor 2012 and 2010. Once the file is created in 2012 and when shared to 2010 users they are unable to open, is there any possiblities to open 2012 files 2010 like how we do in Autocad.

The problem is this.
The object I'm copying will have varying distances between each copy e.g. , 50, 100, 90, 150, 140, 100, 190 so on and so forth.
Is there a way in LT to copy relative to the last object placed?

i have just edited 70 photos using capture editing and apply editing, and have all of them stacked up on the screen.
Can I automatically save them all without having to save each one manually? I tried using the same method as above but it did not save them.
I'm creating an assembly and in this assembly I need to add some foam pieces. These pieces are the exact same part number but can vary in length. How can I make such a part so that i can insert it into an assembly multiple times but have different lengths? I'd rather not make multiple pieces of foam for every single assembly for all of our product lines and am looking for the "one foam to rule them all" option. I would assume this would be an ilogic component I would have to create, but i haven't really made a part like that yet.

Why would I want to do this? It comes into play based on large and small bend radii in the same part. The large bends require a slightly differnt K factor. I searched the forums and don't think I found what I was looking for. The other thread I found was about bend tables.
I'm using Autodesk Map 3D 2006, it's a new install. I am trying to import an ESRI .shp file with the object data, but have only been able to successfully import it once. When I try again (even after restarting the program), I keep getting 0 objects processed and no linework imported, even with new drawings. I also got 2 error messages at one point: 1900 - about having coincident points and a can't transform object error.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a SelectionAdded event handler that reacts three times when selecing a single block and once when deselecting it.
If there are two blocks in the drawing but only selected one it reacts 5 or 6 times.
And it reacts every time I pass the mouse over the selected block.
Is there any way to sidestep the events in the handler so that AutoCAD doesn't grind to a halt if I have multiple blocks in the drawing. And decide to move my mouse over all of them?
attached is a basic IV2012 part made as 1.....can i separate the 2 features and make 2 independant parts from the single part?
If yes can i then use these separate parts and place in assemblies?
I am currently working on a product where I want to make 2 part lists in my drawing of the same assembly. The first parts list has to view all the parts that are always delivered with our product, and the second one has to show the optional parts and features that could be delivered with the product.
I want both lists to be categorized the same way (comments, material, name), I want the numbers of the list to be chronological (also I don't want the second parts list to start the numbering at 1) and I want both lists to stay connected with their balloons.
Is there any way this can be done, like adding or removing part links to the list manually?
Inventor 2014. I have watched everything I can find and read many entries on related messages.
I create a part by creating rectangle on the XY of 90mm centered on 0,0. I add fillets on 3mm on all four corners. I then add two circles centered on 0,0 of diameters 45 mm and 41mm. What I would like to do is extrude the area between 41 mm and 45 mm circles to 10 mm and the rest of the rectangle outside of the circle 45 mm circle to 6 mm. The center of the part from center to the 41 mm circle is void or open.
I have read two solutions that use a "share sketch" function, that I can't find by right-clicking as indicated in the write-up.
