I have a function programmed in vb.net that controls the opacity of parts in the active view. If the user is selecting objects and then starting the program the "non-Selected" Parts are disapearing step by step.
That's looking very interesting, but doesn't supports the user . Is it possible to freeze the active view of inventor and refresh it, when the job is done? So the user will only see the result of the process and not the working process.
it is possible to save a stressed part from a simulation in Inventor as an .ipt in its displaced condition?

I have an assembly with a FEA simulation result. I can run a report and get the reaction forces and moments at each constraint. I would like to run a new simulation with different constraints and use the reaction results from the first simulation as loads in the second one.
Currently I do this by running a report on the 1st simulation to get a table of the reaction results. I then manually add those forces to the 2nd simulation. This takes time to type and the forces must be edited each time I re-run the 1st simulation.
Is there a way to use parameters to automate this?
I've created a rectangular cloth much like a shower curtain. I've selected verts along the top edge in about 5 places. I simulate and get nice drooping cloth between the points I've 'preserved.' After about 5 seconds though, I need to just release those attachments so the whole cloth falls to the ground.
I can't figure out how to do it. Is there a way to key the Group and have it turn off and stop preserving the verts I've selected? What's a good workflow to handle this?
It's possible to select a part in a view on a 2D drawing and change the color of all the lines belonging to that part.
This is really useful, but is there a way of assigning a line color to the .ipt file it's self, so that every time I place a view of that part the lines are automatically set to specified color?
This would also be useful within a single drawing when there are multiple views of the same assembly. e.g.
Part A would always be drawn in Red, Part B would always be green. This would really distinguishing between parts in complex assemblies. (Which I realise can be done manually but I think it could be done faster with less chance of making mistakes.) Currently, I color all the parts, but then if I make an additional view, the new view is all in black.
Why this part appears different colors (switches between brass and gray) as I rotate it?

I am having a bit of trouble with my "Parts List". What I want to be able to do is show the top level assembly quantity in my part drawing. From our fabricators point of view it would be eisier if they could open/pick up a part drawing and see the total quantity needed to be produced before looking at any assembly drawings. So they could produce all individual parts then grab what they need to produce sub-assemblies. I would like to do the same for my subassembly "Part list" where I would show the total need to produce my final assembly.
So far I can only show my quantity as 1 in the parts list for a single part or subassembly, or use a static value and add the quantity by hand which can change through our design/re-design process, not to mention be extremely time consuming.
What's the purpose of making modeling edits at the assembly level if those edits don't show up in a drawing of the parts? Sure, it makes the assembly look prettier and more true to the final product, but say I make a bunch of cuts, holes, etc. at the assembly level, but then I make a drawing for one of the parts that was affected... those edits don't show up on the part itself, so all those edits are of absolutely no use to me when I need to give the guys in the shop a detail drawing of how to make the part. Why I would make edits at the assembly level?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI created a skeleton and now i want to derive the sketches and planes to other parts. It worked for a while, but now it does not work!
The problem is when I create a new .ipt and then I would like to Derive an other part in it. I click on the file from the browser, it puts the part into the .ipt, well, sort of, it's like a visual effect, but NO Derive window appears afterwards, so I cannot edit which sketch or parameter or planes...etc.. I chose to actually derive to the .ipt.
How to show, if it's possible, a feature of a part file as dashed in a drawing?
View 2 Replies View RelatedFor some reason when I start either the bolted connection generator or the shaft generator, the content center parts don't show up if I select "modify" to change the parts. For example: I wanted to create an axle with a retaining-ring-groove. I created the axle, and under Features I selected Retaining Ring.
Then a dialog shows up with some standard dimensions, and on the right under "Position" it says "ASME B 27.7M". When I click here, an empty dialogbox shows with filter "All" activated.
It should show all retaining rings available in the content center. The strange thing however is that when I exit this function and start the ordinary "Place from Content Center" command, I can see all retaining rings that are available (see pictures).
The same thing occurs when using the bolted connection generator.
I've got a machine designed that has a couple hundred parts - originally built as one main assembly (with a number of weldment subassmblies). The problem is that the BOM is too large to feasibly have on the drawing and still show assembly detail. I'm trying to avoid a multi-sheet configuration.
So I've grouped certain items and demoted into subassemblies. The problem is that all the subassemblies are attached to a main frame- and I'd like to show this frame in each of the subassemblies as a reference. Is there a way to add a "phantom" copy of the framework to each of the subassemblies to that it can be seen? (and the assembler can see how the subassembly is mounted on the frame) Otherwise all these parts are just floating in space on the subassembly (and constraints are lost on the subs).
I'd like to keep the frame on the top assembly, as it may be customized for future machines, while using the same subassemblies.

View 6 Replies View RelatedAs you could already read in the headline of this topic, I'm getting two diffrent results from Inventor.File.ReferencedFileDescriptor with the Inventor 2010 API and Inventor 2012 API when I'm trying to get some information from the same Inventor file!
In my case the FullFileName and therefore the ReferenceMissing property get's me different values, although it's exactly the same Inventor file and exactly the same source code.
How could this happen? Any changes for the ReferenceFileDescriptors object from API 2010 to 2012?

I have 3 iLogic Rules that I use with my idw's,
1-SCALE - is to update scale in the title block
2- WEIGHT - is to update weight of model in title block
3- PDF - is to create a pdf version of drawing in same location as idw
all are triggered by saving the drawing.
These work fine, but sometimes when I create specific types of drawings there is errors, which is no big deal, just a prompt appears and I press ok and everything is fine.
With very little to no iLogic programming knowledge, is there a way to edit to rules so that if there is an issue, the rule knows it is ok and saves without the little prompt appearing?
Example of when errors occur for:
SCALE - sometimes I create drawings on my template just using create sketch, I don't place a base view so therefore there is no model information. which makes it hard to produce a scale. (see image, error -1)
WEIGHT - occurs during the same instance as above, only a sketch is saved on the idw. (see image error -2)
but I also have an error occur when creating a drawing from a presentation file. I create a presentation file from a specific level of detail from an assembly. and I get an error when saving . (see image error-3)
I understand the first 2 errors because there is no physical data to get this information from, so I am hoping an edit to the rules can bypass this issue. But the 3rd error doesn't make sense. It is from an actual model, but I guess the physical properties get lost from an .iam to .ipn?? or is there a setting that can be toggled to carry over model properties?

Rules are below:

Public Sub Main()

Why my result from stress analysis isn't symmetry?I am modeling a telescope support system. The result I got from the analysis always not symmetry, the difference is very small therefore I think the test setting shouldn't have any major problem.
The difference could be cause by the round off during the simulation, if I am right about it, is there anyway to improve the result?
I modeled a sheetmetal part, saved it and then did a save as to make a similar part. I changed a couple dimensions and when it updated it chnaged it's orientation. Playing with the EOP marker reveals the refold feature, the last feature in the model, to be the culprit. I tried reentering the stationary reference, and I tried deleting and recreating the feature.

I am almost sure this is not possible in AI but I will ask it anyway:
is it possible to assign value of parameter as a result of non linear equation?
for example I would need parameter x to meet the equation
cos^2x+Ax+C=0
where A and C can be other fixed parameters.
I've created a successful FEA simulation in Inventor 2014 and obtained results. But I want to see the highest stress in a defined area that is smaller than the entire part (I have some stress concentrations that are throwing off my 'max'). Is there a way to probe an area instead of just a point? I'm tired of creating a dozen probes to find the 'local max'.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm developing a program which runs several simulations and obtains the results automatically.
I'm using the dynamic simulation API created in Inventor 2013. For that I use the GetResultValues(ByRef values() as Double) method of the class DSResult.
I used the method inside the VBA of inventor and worked well. But when I wrote the program in Visual Basic Express 2010, the method doesn't return anything.
I share an excerpt of the
Dim odoc As AssemblyDocument
odoc=invApp.Documents.Open(testPath, True)
Dim dsman As Inventor.SimulationManager = odoc.ComponentDefinition.SimulationManager
Dim dssim As Inventor.DynamicSimulation = dsman.DynamicSimulations.Item(1)
Dim oJoints As Inventor.DSJoints = dssim.DSJoints
oJoint = oJoints.Item(1)
[code]....
The method GetResultValues(values) should modify 'values' to a time, value vector.
It works well inside Inventor, but doesn't in the program in VB, although it runs the simulations and does everything else right.

I'm designing multiple elements for a vehicle. I need to evaluate multiple dynamic results of multiple possible designs. All the design is parametric so it modifies quickly but I can't find a way to run the dynamic simulation multiple times automatically and get the results from the output grapher for each simulation.
I am trying to do it via API but can't find the class of the dynamic simulation environment in the Object Model Chart to program it via .NET.
