AutoCAD Inventor :: BOM Export To Formatted Text
Apr 2, 2012I've found a lot of information on exporting BOM lists to excel, access, etc. but what I am trying to accomplish is to export assembly BOMs into a text file that I can import into our ERP software.
Our ERP software requires that the first character of the line be an 'S' then in the next 30 characters is the part number (trailing spaces are ignored) and then the quantity in the next 14 characters and finally the sequence of operations in the remaining 6 characters, a total of 51 characters per line.
I am using Inventor Simulation 2011 and thought that I might be able to do this by creating a custom rule; however, the BOM export snippets simply mirror the export features from the BOM table.

Dec 4, 2011In an Inventor Drawing (.idw), dimensions are formatted (i.e., as decimal or fractional) based on the style selected for the dimension annotation. You can also force stacked-fraction formatting of specific numeric text within a text box.
However, text boxes don't seem to offer much control over retreived parameters. When you insert a value from the parameter table into your text box or leader text, the retrieved parameter always gets pulled in as a decimal number regardless of how it was formatted in the part's parameters table.
Are there any formatting functions that can be used within a text box or leader text to force fractional formatting for a retrieved parameter embedded within that text?

Jun 5, 2013know if we could put for example the Building of our Assembly in some 2D drawings as a "Reference" object and as a non reference object in other 2D drawings?
In some 2D drawings we don't need the whole building, and just with the references is enough, but in some other views, we need to see the building so we can represent the real obstacles we have or to show how the custumer should do the pipe implantation

Our target is, to create a drawing that look the way, the attachment shows (Picture-1) The sheet metal plates Pos 10-100 are an assembly. And the assembly in the back is the reference geometry. It’s a frame consists of steel sections. What we want: 1. The frame must be phantom lined in the idw. 2.
The Sheet Metal parts must be thick lined. 3. The Partslist of the Assembly should only contain the sheet metal parts and not the frame We have some ideas to solve this case, but each of them is nor perfect (please see the attachment Box.pdf) And there’s another problem (described in part 3 of attachment), we cannot position viewports or drawing elements to each other exactly. You have no possibility to give them dependencies. Also if you want to position symbols to each other. All of them are only near to be exact, but that’s a big problem. If you change contents of a viewport, another should be aligned to it, but that doesn’t work.

Jun 17, 2012How can you force the geometry of reference parts to print behind to print behind your visible parts. I have my reference parts print out on a light gray layer to be shown indistinct on a drawings, but it prints over my object lines in effect hiding them. This is even true if a reference part is hidden. Then hidden line will print over the object lines as well.

What I want to do is add reference brackets around every dimension on each drawing. I have managed to update part list styles before using ilogic but I am not sure if it is possible with dimensions.

Xara :: How To Import Formatted Text From Word
Jun 10, 2011I need to make a pdf to upload my book to Createspace. I've read that I can format the book in Word 2010 using one of their templates.
I've also read that it won't handle photos well.
So I'm wondering if it's possible to import formatted text from Word into Xara Designer Pro 6, then add photos, then export a pdf file.
I tried importing one formatted page (I'm doing 6X9 inches) into a 6x9 page in Xara, but it pastes the whole thing as a lump that is the wrong size, way too big, and I would have to try to shrink it...
Is there a way to do this simply, that would be accurate for every page of a book?

I almost create “text” in every part drawing in different view. I have to create a sketch first, than create a text and dimension the text so I can lock the text in position, otherwise when you move the view and the text will stay in different location.
I had been used “Solid works” for long times. When I need to create a text, just click that view and create a text and the text will stay with that view, whatever you move that view and the text move together.

Jan 30, 2012I frequently use tolerance and fits when modelling and retreive them to use them in drawings. The text on these dimensions is always horizontal . Any time I have vertical dimension on drawings (e.g. several diameters in a stepped bore) the horizontal text takes up way too much real estate. e.g. 18.0000 g6 (17.999 17.998)
I would like to align the text to the dimension lines (i.e. text vertical in this case) In Properties Rotate is greyed out. Is there a way to keep my retrieved dims and have them aligned with the dim lines in the drawing?

Feb 2, 2012Basically we have a number of different procedures that need to be written in each drawing. Each drawing uses one of 5 or so procedures. Usually we type it out every time which is a pain or copy paste. We also tried making word documents and inserting them that way but it got a little buggy. Is there any way to have 5 or so pre made text blocks to pick which to insert onto different types of drawings but that can be global used across a few systems?
We have a small group of workers all on the vault server. Basically I just want to be able to have a finished drawing. Click something that will open a list of my pre made text blocks, and insert one into the drawing that I can scale etc. We use Inventor 2011.

Jun 19, 2012I have a PDF file that contains an image, this image is angled at 10 degrees and is changed every week.
USING Ps CS5 & Acrobat Pro X...I open the PDF select the image markup tool, select the image to be changed, right mouse click and select 'edit image'.The image opens in PS CS5, I do the changes and save the file, the PDF updates.
USING Ps CS6 & Acrobat Pro X..I open the PDF select the image markup tool, select the image to be changed, right mouse click and select 'edit image'. The image opens in PS CS6, I do the changes and save the file, the PDF updates BUT STAIGHTENS IT, REMOVING THE 10 DEGREE ANGLE!
I went back to CS5 to test this and it works perfectly angle remains, image updates?
Revit :: DWF Markup By Client Shows Up On Sheet Not View?
Sep 4, 2013Ive created a dwf with multiple sheets (an electrical set, in this example). I sent it to a client who marked it up in Autodesk Design Review and sent it back to me. I inserted it (insert/dwf markup) and it comes into the revit14 drawing file just fine but all the comments are on the SHEET and not in the view. This is very inconvenined becuase I must open the view, make the change, exit the view, edit the dwf comment and repeat over and over. How does one get/force the person doing the markup to work within the VIEW?

May 31, 2012I created an alignment style specifically to label typical sections. My label style includes a triangular symbol (XSM) and alignment reference text (XSL) attached to the symbol. The label attaches correctly to the alignment geometry points (POB and POE) but the alignment reference text which should call the alignment name instead shows three question marks. At no point in the process am I prompted to select an alignment which is as expected. The label should automatically populate with the alignment name. The label properties indicate the appropriate alignment as the reference object.

You can ignore the Detail and Detail Attribute objects as they are also user-defined. Also note that this function expects the database to be currently open for working on.
Everything in this function works fine, but there is a strange quirk that becomes noticeable only when I use this function to edit an attribute that has its "Invisible" property set to "No".

If I change to a difference style, the reference cogo point goes to "none".
I need to change to a Child style, but use the same cogo point.

May 24, 2012I have tried to use intersectwith to locate text (MText or DBText) near a block reference. Some times it works and some times it does not. The hard part for me is understanding why it occasionally works when most examples are just duplicates with modified text and attributes.
My block reference has 4 attributes to the left (Right Justified) of a circle and 2 attributes inside the circle. The text objects are used by some CAD operators instead of the upper 2 lines of attributtes. (Guess they dont know how to modify attributes) I want to locate these texts and insert text into the corresponding attribute.

Jul 18, 2012I can create single alignment labels (fixed point, offset etc) that show a chainage and, by using reference text, a profile level for an associated profile.
However, using the main labels that are used for displaying chainages along an alignment (alignment chainage label group) I can also add in a reference text label for profiles here, alongside the chainage one, but there is no option to set which profile it references so it just displays '???'.
Getting the alignment labels to also display associated profile levels at every chainage point would be incredibly useful.

Aug 16, 2012I am labeling structures and need to use the station & offset for the street alignment not the alignment for the pipe network. It works great for the station but the offset is not working properly. It reads 0 as though it's reading the alignment for the pipe network. I've tried copying a label and adding reference text, creating a new label from scratch, putting 2 pieces of reference text in (1 for the station & 1 for the offset), and just doing the offset in the reference text instead of the station & offset...none of those have worked.

Everything came in (surfaces, alignments, pipe networks) but text did not come in from a source drawing; the Source Dwg is a Pipe Network. The network came in but not the text. I opened the source dwg & the text is there. The Event Viewer is showing no broken references so what I'm I missing?

Photoshop :: Extended 4 Formatted Drive Causes Errors?
Feb 23, 2013I have a new Synology network drive that is formatted with the Synology native format, ext4. Photoshop CS5 works fine except that when I save a file to the drive, I get a "Can't build preview because of a disk error" message. However, after dismissing the dialog, the file saves and creates its icon in a normal manner, so the message is somewhat spurious. This is obviously annoying to have to dismiss the dialog every time I save a file.
I have three other network drives that are FAT32, and have no problems like this. The Synology drive can't be formatted FAT32.
Illustrator :: Object Label Badly Formatted?
Mar 6, 2013I'm trying to open an .ai file in Illustrator CS6. I get an error message "Acrobat PDF File Format is having difficulties. Object label badly formatted" I have tried recovery mode and running recovery scripts to no avail.
I won't open or place in any other software. I can; however, see a preview in Bridge.
I'm not using any fonts software and there are no fonts present in the document. The file contains a lot of gradient mesh and a photo (.jpg, placed)

Oct 30, 2012I'm trying to create an alignment label to display profile elevations at regular stations. Two questions:
1. I use an expression to set the text height. When I add a regular text component in the label this works fine, but when I add reference text I can't seem to use the expression as text height.
2. I want to use an expression to 'Truncate' the elevation, so that 178.35m displays as 78.35. I can't find a way to create an expression to do this (within the Alignment station labels).

Oct 18, 2012Using C3d 2013. I am looking for a way to place the deflection angle of the PI of an Alignment in the label of a structure part that references said alignment. But PIs aren't an option when I select Reference Text type. Common sense tells me it would be under Alignments, but none of the PI data is an option of the Contents' Text Component Editor. I couldn't find it under any of the other Reference Text types either. I can pull the station value from the referenced alignment, is there a way to get it to tell me the deflection angle at the PI it sits on? Or even the difference in the instantaneous direction just before and just after the part?
I know listing the deflection angle of a PI is possible, as I have seen it in several examples of labeling alignments. I just want to place it in the label of other objects.who can tell me how to display LT (to represent left) and RT (to represent right) when the deflection is positive or negative respectively.
