AutoCAD Inventor :: Including User Parameters In Part Description?

Dec 8, 2011

I have some parts with varies User Parameters that allow cusomization of part features.  With numeric user paremeters we can check the export parameter box and then, in the description of the part we can refrence that parameter.  For instance the description could be: =Width <Width>, Height <Height>, etc. Where it would desplay as Discription: width 22in, height 12".

We also have text User parameters.  Is there a way to add these parameters to the description as well?  They do not have the option of checking the export parameter box in the parameters table.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Description Key Format Using Parameters

Feb 21, 2012

Is there a way to change a RAW description such as EC12 +, or EC11 -, to say SWP12 +, SWP11 -

I'm not having much luck using the parameter settings. 1$

I tried Code = EC*, format=SWP1$

That didn't work... I got literally SWP1$ instead of SWP12 +

Is it a space thing?  Do I have to rename all the descriptions to have a space before the parameter?

i.e. EC 12 +

I'm hoping this isn't the case and some form of wildcard can be use.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Making Parameters Show Up Fractional In Drawing

Mar 23, 2012

I am using parameters from a .ipt file to display dimensional information on a drawing file I have created (the fields colored red are the parameters it is reading).  How do I get them to display as fractions instead of decimal?  I want it to read 5"1/2 instead of 5.5", for instance.  I have tried inputting them as fractions in the parameters dialog in the part file, but no luck, they still come out as decimal.

See attachment for reference.

AutoCAD Inventor :: IPart Factory Table On Drawing Show Equation Not Value For Parameters

Oct 21, 2008

I have an iPart that I have created parameters to perform some basic calcs so the values will show up on every member. The parameters are correct for the different member so it appears to be working correctly on the model side. For example I have a parameter called 'CutLength' that performs simple math functions. But when I make the table on the drawing and I include this parameter, I see the formula in the table instead of the value. Is there a way I can have it display the value instead of the equation?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Get Tangent Or Radial Bearing To Show Up In Legal Description Writer?

Mar 18, 2013

How to get a tangent bearing or radial bearing to show up in the legal description writer?  All I can get are their opposites.  Is there some code that I can add that will swap their direction (say NE for a SW)?

The convention out here (OR/WA) is to show a radial bearing (from the PC to the radius point) or a tangent bearing (into the beginning of a curve) for any non-tangent curves.  So far, I haven't been able to figure out how to do this automatically.

Also, any good guide or list of variables for using the Parcel Reporting for legal descriptions in c3d?  I really want to know what ALL the different pieces of data are that I can use in the legal writer, and how to manipulate them.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Raw description Not Within Description Key

Oct 21, 2011

we are updating fron LDD 2004 to Civil 3D 2012 needles to say it a huge change. I've got my template almost done I'm just having one problem. With LDD any point that came in with a raw descripitoin not within the description key it would be placed in the current layer with point number, descripton and elevation. How do I make that happen with Civil3D do I have to change my default lable settings? When I import points with a raw description not within my description key it places the point on Layer 0 and only shows the node no point number.

AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic Set Description In IProperties

I cannot figure out how to extract the parameter values and place them into the iproperties. Here is what I have tried: iProperties.Value("Project", "Description")=" =<Length> x <Width> Floor Sheet"... This gives me the following result in my description:  x  Floor Sheet

I would like the description in the BOM to append the length, e.g. 100x10 Flat bar-235mm.  (This is so that I don't have to create a length column in the BOM just for this item).

I have tried 100x10 Flat bar - <length> but this gives an error.

AutoCAD Inventor :: IProperty Description Field In Windows Explorer

Oct 29, 2012

We would like to enforce that our designers save all Inventor files by the Part number only. This is not a problem when using Vault to open files as the interface can be customized to show the iProperty description field. The problem comes in for users who open files from the local drive before they have been added to Vault. There is no way for them to see the iProperty descrition for the files except if they hover over each file and wait for the tooltip to show which then shows a number of iProperties.

I found that I can add a Windows description column but by default it is blank. Is there anyway to get the iProperty description to synchronize with the windows description column?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Frame Member Description Field Not Updating

Jan 12, 2012

I have a user that is creating frame work using custom members copied from the standard.  We have edited the frame members to use the company's part numbers and description and everything works fine.  The Parts List populates with the correct part number / stock number and description just fine.   I have customized the Part List style to display the stock number if one is available so that it shows correctly.

The problem comes when changing the size of a frame member out.  Frame Generator creates a new file for that member and the Parts List displays the correct Stock number but the description still shows the original size's description not the one associated to the new member's size.

I haven't tried it but I am sure that deleting the Parts List and reinserting might fix the problem but there are other lines in the Parts List that have Static overrides and the user would have to redo all that.  Why does the PN/Stock Number update correctly but the Description does not?

AutoCad :: Linking Constraint Parameters To Action Parameters?

Sep 21, 2011

Im wondering if its possible to link either a constraint dimension to an action parameter or vice versa. Or using a linear parameter's value in an user parameter formula.

Its a 2D cylinder, for winding purposes we just have a rectangle, with a distance from the Y axis for radial.

Parametric dimensions: B=thickness, C=Lenght, R=radius
User parameter: A=Diameter (R*2), Mass in kg ((((pi*(c*b))*(A+B))*1.25)/1000)/1000

For the BOM, i need A, B, C & mass

For drawing references for peoples on the floor, to distinquish a cylinder from a stick, we put lines at the top and bottom of the cylinder, 1mm distance inbetween them.

I figured that making a linear parameter + stretch on the thickness to replace the B parametric dimension, allowed me to make an array of that line, with increments of 1mm as i stretch the cylinder. The thing is that the mass formula cant take the value of action parameters....

Other alternative is to keep the B parametric dimension, and add a linear parameter as above for the array. But then i have 2 places to adjust, and from a test i made, if i change the R dimension, the linear one does not follow. Its very frustrating.

What i was hoping autocad would be able to do is distance1 for array to be same as B dimension, but it does not allow me to do that, unless im missing something.
