AutoCAD Inventor :: Frame Member Description Field Not Updating

Jan 12, 2012

I have a user that is creating frame work using custom members copied from the standard.  We have edited the frame members to use the company's part numbers and description and everything works fine.  The Parts List populates with the correct part number / stock number and description just fine.   I have customized the Part List style to display the stock number if one is available so that it shows correctly.

The problem comes when changing the size of a frame member out.  Frame Generator creates a new file for that member and the Parts List displays the correct Stock number but the description still shows the original size's description not the one associated to the new member's size.

I haven't tried it but I am sure that deleting the Parts List and reinserting might fix the problem but there are other lines in the Parts List that have Static overrides and the user would have to redo all that.  Why does the PN/Stock Number update correctly but the Description does not?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Frame Generator Member Offset

Dec 19, 2013

I have created a user parameter in a assembly, then creating a member with FG i use that parameter as member offset. The same with other members.

Changing from Parameters that parameter no update happen, I have tried rebuild all, refresh..no working. The only thing that works, is to use the "change" command , select my member(s) , change nothing, than ok.

Then it update.

Is it a software limit? A bug? An error in the workflow?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Error Changing Material Of Frame Member

Oct 10, 2012

I'm with a problem here, that when i try to change a material from a frame member, i got the error below:

[WARNING] Frame Generator: Errors occurred while attempting to change frame member(s).
[WARNING] Problems occurred during changing Frame Member(s)
[ERROR] A change could not be completed. The reason for the failure is unknown. Please retry.

The structure that i'm trying to change, was created in IV 2012 SP1, and now I'm editing it in IV 2013.

All the pieces of this project were converted to the new version, and the only big difference from 2012 in this case i think that is the materials library, that I created a new one and set on project as default.

The strange, is that if I enter frame by frame and go to iProperties>Physicals, there i can change the material normally (but with a big wate of time ofc).

AutoCAD Inventor :: Frame Creator / Member Unique Names?

Feb 17, 2012

I have created a frame using the frame creator with all the individual members listed in the frature manager.  When I check this into the vault it goes in fine.

When I create a second frame (seperate frame file) it uses one or two of the same fram types as the first frame.  The problem comes when I go to check this into the vault it says the member already exists.

I have been told and I am seeing it that the frame creator always starts with "001" and numbers downward in creating the member names.  This creates a problem in the vault because of the duplicate file factor.

What I ended up doing was calling up that particular member and doing a file save as then replacing it in the assembly.  Then it would check in fine.

Is this the only work around or is there a setting somewhere that allows unique names for these frame members.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Structural Member Lengths In Frame Generator

Jul 27, 2012

I have created a few new structural parts that I am in the process of publishing to the content center.

I got one of them in and have it working very well except for one item.  If I place this structural piece into an assembly as a stand alone part just selecting the length and the material as the key inputs, it shows the proper length in the part number and the description just fine.  If I insert this same structural piece in a skeleton using the frame generator, then the length that shows up in the description is the default one that the part was originally created to.  How do I get the length to show up in the frame BOM correctly when parts are created using the frame generator?

This works using the structural members out of the box.

AutoCAD Inventor :: IProperty Description Field In Windows Explorer

Oct 29, 2012

We would like to enforce that our designers save all Inventor files by the Part number only. This is not a problem when using Vault to open files as the interface can be customized to show the iProperty description field. The problem comes in for users who open files from the local drive before they have been added to Vault. There is no way for them to see the iProperty descrition for the files except if they hover over each file and wait for the tooltip to show which then shows a number of iProperties.

I found that I can add a Windows description column but by default it is blank. Is there anyway to get the iProperty description to synchronize with the windows description column?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Unable To Create Custom Frame Member Part

Jun 28, 2010

I created a template part, turned it into an I-part and published it successfully as a Frame Member.

The custom member was published into a custom library that is read/write.  I was forced to create this library in order to publish the part.

When I go to use the custom profile with the frame generator, I am able to find the custom member in the dialog but when the frame generator tries to generate the part, I get this error message:

[WARNING] Frame Generator: Errors occurred during inserting Frame Member(s)
[WARNING] Insertion of frame member(s) failed
[ERROR] A frame member could not be created.  The template file for Unnamed GIRT-2 could not be located in the Content Center library.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Frame Generator / When Changing Member Type Does Not Update All IProperties

Nov 25, 2009

During some discussion with other uses of Inventor I was ask if I knew about a problem relating to Changing a member size in Frame Generator and the iProperties maintain the old members properties.

The basic problem is as follows:-You start with a simple frame, create all of the members save and then added to a drawing. The members frame come from the content centre which have been copied into a Custom Library to enable addition parameters to be added along with addition iproperties being automated such as DESCRIPTION.

Once the frame and associated members have been created and then save, if a user wants to change the size of the member inventor has to create a new part file and then inserts into the frame generator frame. However, I have found that if you review the iProperties of the new file the DESCRIPTION is the same as the one that was replace, however it was strange to see that the STOCKNUMBER and PART NUMBER was updated correctly. It seems to be only a problem with the DESCRIPTION property.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Frame Generator Change - Update Description Property Fails

Nov 5, 2012

Parts generated with the FG can be changed with the 'Change' option within the Frame Generator menu in the Design -tab on the ribbon.

However, when I change the size of the profile thru this menu all properties will be changed according to the settings of the table in the Content Center, except the Description property.

The Description column in the table is configured with the size of the profile and is mapped to 'project.description'.

I'm using Inventor 2013 SP1.1

AutoCAD Inventor :: Change Member IPart Member In Drawing View?

Jan 8, 2014

In Inventor 2013 it was easily to switch in a drawing view between different iPart members. Through Edit view => Tab Model State and then it was possible to switch between different iPart members. So it was easy to make a copy in the Vault from only the dwg (from a iPart member) and then change the iPart member. Now in Inventor 2014 it is not possible anymore.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Updating Profiles On Placed Frame Generator Components

May 7, 2012

Does frame generator update placed components when the profile of a custom structural shape family changes?

Workflow:

1. Create custom family in Frame Generator library.

2. Place instances in a frame generated assembly.

3. Make a profile change to the base shape and update the library using "Replace Family Template"

4. Open assembly with placed components and select Design > Frame > Refresh.

The profiles of already placed components do not update. Existing parts are unchanged even though any new parts placed from the family receive the new profile.

Under our previous workflow using derived parts, we created sketch files and saved them in a profile folder. Then all lineal lengths derived their base sketch from those profile .ipt files. When the sketch changed in the base .ipt, all the files derived from it updated. I am trying to replicate / improve this workflow using Frame Generator, but it doesn't seem to work.

Am I doing something incorrectly? Or does Frame Generator not support automatically updating existing frames when the profile of the family template changes?

This is what I would like to accomplish but have not been able to do it on my own.

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Field Value Not Updating Attribute Value

Jan 29, 2013

I have created a rectangle whose length changes. The value of the paameter "Dist1" is this length field that I associate to the attribute value. Basically, echo length from Dist1 into the attrib value.

The problem is when I insert the block into the drawing the value is shown as "DIST1", even after regen.

Once I pull the grip point to a new length and regen it still shows "DIST1".

If I go into the ddedit and select the edit box (for multiline data field) the shown value will correct itself, but only one time.

If I change the length again, the dimension does not update.

It worked fine when I tested the block but is having issues days later.

VideoStudio :: Field Order Frame Based Should Alter?

Jan 26, 2013

When creating DVDs from sony mini DV tapes. I followed the lower field first, LFF, in capture and project settings and then for the properties in the burn phase.

On these new clips I have just created I could not find the field order for interlacing, so I used the 'trick' of creating a new project and inserting the clip into the project time line, then as UVS tries to match the project properties to those of the clip, I find from the propeties that the field order of the clip is "frame based".

This is intended for a PAL DVD so is this something I have to change to either UFF or LFF in the project property settings, or can I leave it as frame based. Will this impact the quality ?

What does it do for lacing when it is "frame based" ?

ps I believe this frame based busines is something to do with systems that do not use interlacing to fool the eye with 25 fps x 2 ~ 50 fps
